Listening strategies are a method that provide aid and assistance for learners and teachers to obtain and comprehend more information and knowledge during the learning process. This study aimed: (1) To identify listening strategies utilized by English Department Students during an English listening class at Mulawarman University English Department (2) To Identify of English department students' listening level at Mulawarman University English Department. (3) To Identify the correlation between listening strategies and listening comprehension. This study used quantitative research design by using questionnaire as instrument to obtain important data. The participants of this study were English Department students at Mulawarman University that were picked purposively by certain criteria. The result of this study indicated that all of the Selected participants from English department had utilized and applied three given listening strategies which were metacognitive, cognitive and socio-affective with cognitive strategy came as the most dominant method used during listening courses with 40% in the 7th semester, 45% in the 5th semester and 44% in the 3rd semester. Followed by metacognitive as the second most used with 40% in the 7th semester, 36% in the 5th semester and 35% in the 3rd semester. Socio affective as the least preferred strategy with 20% percentage in the 7th semester, 19% in the 5th semester and 21% in the 3rd semester. The result of this study also showed that the listening level of English department students of mulawarman university were at the good level of listening level classification with the score of 76.34. This finding indicates that these students in this level were capable of comprehending spoken language in general and have a moderate level of understanding. Lastly, this research also showed that there was a positive correlation between listening strategy and students’ listening comprehension with a value of (0.496) and the p-value of <0.001. The results indicated that the higher the application of listening strategy during listening course, the higher students’ comprehension level. It showed that listening strategies correlate with listening comprehension
The Relationship between Daily X (Twitter) English Usage and the Vocabulary Mastery of Eleventh Grade Students at SMAN 1 Samarinda
The present study was aimed to investigate whether there is a relationship between daily X (Twitter) English usage and vocabulary mastery. The objective was to find out (1) the intensity of students’ daily X (Twitter) English usage; (2) the students’ vocabulary mastery; (3) the relationship between the intensity of students’ daily X (Twitter) English use and students’ vocabulary mastery. The design of the study was correlational quantitative research. The population was eleventh grade students, and the sample was 141 students who were using X (Twitter). The instruments of this study were a questionnaire and a multiple choice test. The data were analyzed by using Spearman Rank on SPSS 23. The finding of this study was (1) the intensity of students’ daily X (Twitter) English use was categorized as low, with the mean score 57.68; (2) the vocabulary mastery of students was categorized as excellent, with the mean score 81.6140; (3) the correlation correlation coefficient value was 0.101. In addition, p-value was 0.231 (>0.05). It indicated that there was no significant relationship between daily X (Twitter) English use and the vocabulary mastery of eleventh grade students at SMAN 1 Samarinda. The results of this study implied that students did not consider X (Twitter) as a vocabulary learning tool. In addition, students may have an excellent vocabulary without using X (Twitter). This study can be useful for future researchers as they can further investigate what are the factors of students’ English vocabulary mastery. Furthermore, they can also conduct an experimental study using the same subject and objective of the current study
Perencanaan Kepemimpinan Pendidikan Nonformal dalam Penguatan Karakter tentang Etika dan Moralitas Masyarakat Kutai Kartanegara
Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan perencanaan, pelaksanaan dan pengawasan kepemimpinan pendidikan nonformal dalam penguatan karakter tentang etika dan moralitas masyarakat di wilayah Kutai Kartanegara, Kalimantan Timur. Penelitian ini mengadopsi pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode fenomenologi untuk menggali makna mendalam dari pengalaman subjek. Data dikumpulkan melalui tiga teknik utama, yaitu observasi langsung, wawancara mendalam dan studi dokumen. Temuan dari penelitian mengungkapkan bahwa, pertama, perencanaan kepemimpinan pendidikan nonformal di Kutai Kartanegara melibatkan berbagai pemangku kepentingan, termasuk mengidentifikasi kebutuhan peserta didik, penyusunan kurikulum berbasis karakter, dan evaluasi berkala. Kedua, pelaksanaan program dilakukan melalui sosialisasi, pelatihan, lokakarya dan keterlibatan komunitas lokal yang bertujuan untuk memastikan keselarasan program dengan nilai moral dan budaya setempat. Ketiga, pengawasan pendidikan nonformal dilaksanakan sesuai dengan kebijakan dan regulasi yang telah ditetapkan, dengan meningkatkan kompetensi pengawas, mengoptimalkan sumber daya, serta menjalin kolaborasi antara lembaga pendidikan, pemerintah dan masyarakat. Evaluasi program dilakukan secara berkala untuk menilai efektivitas dan memberikan rekomendasi perbaikan dimasa mendatang. Temuan penelitian ini menegaskan pendidikan nonformal memiliki peran penting dalam memperkuat karakter masyarakat serta mempersiapkan generasi yang lebih beretika dan bermoral di tengah tantangan globalisasi
Student Perceptions On Reading English Economic Texts
This study investigates the perceptions of Development Economics students regarding their experiences reading English economic texts. The research examined attitudes, challenges, and strategies of 109 first-semester students (31 males, 78 females) enrolled in an English for Economics course. Using a mixed-methods approach, data was collected through a comprehensive perception survey and analyzed using both quantitative and qualitative methods. Results reveal that students perceive economic texts as highly challenging primarily due to specialized terminology, complex sentence structures, and the dual difficulty of mastering both language and content simultaneously. While students acknowledge the importance of English economic texts for their professional development, they report moderate confidence in their reading abilities. The study provides practical implications for English for Specific Purposes (ESP) instruction in economics programs and suggests approaches to enhance students' engagement with English economic texts
Sosialisasi Biasakan Bertutur Kata Baik Dalam Beraktivitas Untuk Menciptakan Lingkungan Yang Nyaman Di Sekolah
Banyaknya fenomena yang terjadi dalam dunia pendidikan saat ini mencerminkan merosotnya etika bertutur kata yang baik, dalam kegiatan belajar mengajar dan interaksi sosial di sekolah. Penggunaan bahasa yang kasar, tidak sopan, atau bertentangan dengan norma sosial dapat mengganggu proses belajar mengajar, merusak hubungan antar siswa, dan merusak suasana sekolah yang harmonis. Tujuan dari kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah agar siswa menyadari pentingnya bertutur kata yang mencerminkan akhlak yang terpuji. Kegiatan ini dilakukan dalam bentuk sosialisasi kepada siswa di lingkungan sekolah, dengan metode yang digunakan berupa pemberian materi edukasi, permainan interaktif, dan demonstrasi hasil karya siswa. Ketika siswa berpartisipasi dalam kegiatan ini, mereka menciptakan iklim belajar yang aman dan suasana harmonis di sekolah serta mengembangkan pemahaman yang lebih mendalam tentang etika bertutur kata yang baik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa 75% memiliki pemahaman tinggi, 24% memiliki pemahaman sedang, dan 1% memiliki pemahaman rendah
Pemanfaatan tulang bebek sebagai adsorben metilen biru pada limbah industri tekstil
Industri tekstil saat ini, menimbulkan masalah baru yaitu limbah. Salah satunya di Kalimantan Timur, merupakan penghasil tesktil dibidang tenun sarung Samarinda. Dalam pewarnaan tenun, menggunakan pewarna alami dan sintesis. Penggunaan pewarna sintesis dapat menghasilkan limbah yang sangat berbahaya jika di buang langsung ke lingkungan, terutama sungai. Salah satu cara yang dapat digunakan untuk mengurangi limbah cair zat warna adalah dengan menggunakan adsorben. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui massa optimum, waktu kontak optimum, dan pH optimum terhadap adsorbsi metilen biru dengan menggunakan adsorben teraktivasi dari tulang bebek serta penentuan model kinetika adsorbsi dan isoterm adsorbsi. Teknik analisis data menggunakan Microsoft Excel 2010. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa massa optimum adsorben yang diperoleh pada 0,75 gram yang diaktivasi selama 6 jam dengan suhu 600℃, waktu kontak optimum diperoleh pada 40 menit, dan derajat keasaman (pH) optimum berada pada pH 5, serta model kinetika adsorbsi yang diperoleh ialah pada model pseudo orde 2 dan model isoterm adsorpsi Freundlich
Innovative Learning Design Assisted by Comic Media in Social Studies
Learning innovation in social studies learning is important, especially for designing learning. This study aims to examine the effectiveness and relevance of comic media as a tool for developing social studies learning. This study uses a literature study method by analyzing various indexed and accredited journals that highlight the use of comics in social studies learning. The results indicate that comics in addition increase students' interest in learning but also help in understanding complex concepts through visualization. Comic media, when combined with innovative learning strategies, can have a positive impact on student learning outcomes in social studies learning
SULUH INKLUSIVITAS ENERGI TERBARUKAN DARI PENYANDANG DISABILITAS: STUDI KASUS PROGRAM PELITA BERSAMA PT PLN INDONESIA POWER UBP KAMOJANG
Program Pelita Bersama merupakan inisiatif Tanggung Jawab Sosial dan Lingkungan (TJSL) PT PLN Indonesia Power UBP Kamojang Unit PLTP Kamojang dalam menanggapi dinamika sosial dan lingkungan di Kabupaten Garut, khususnya yang dihadapi oleh kelompok masyarakat penyandang disabilitas. Program ini menerapkan pendekatan pemberdayaan partisipasi aktif untuk memastikan keterlibatan penuh subyek sasaran dalam setiap tahapan pemberdayaan. Studi ini menganalisis dinamika inovasi sosial dalam Program Pelita Bersama, dengan fokus pada pengembangan kendaraan ramah lingkungan, serta mengkuantifikasi reduksi emisi GRK dari transisi energi kendaran berbahan bakar fosil ke listrik pada lingkup mitra binaan dan operasional perusahaan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Program Pelita Bersama tidak hanya sekadar memberdayakan penyandang disabilitas melalui peningkatan keterampilan dan akses ekonomi yang inklusif, namun juga berkontribusi pada adaptasi perubahan iklim melalui konversi kendaraan motor listrik dan utilisasinya. Program ini berhasil mengurangi emisi GRK dengan akumulasi penurunan emisi sebesar 83.302,98 kg CO₂eq /tahun dari ruang lingkup mitra binaan dan operasional perusahaan. Lebih lanjut, program ini menghasilkan penghematan ekonomi dari biaya bahan bakar dan potensi penghematan pajak karbon hingga Rp30.524.823,40. Program Pelita Bersama menjadi contoh praktik baik pada implementasi inovasi sosial yang menyongsong sinergi pemberdayaan disabilitas dengan upaya adaptasi perubahan iklim, sehingga mampu memberikan manfaat multidimensi bagi masyarakat serta lingkungan hidup
Beyond the basics: A qualitative exploration of mathematics teaching effectiveness in South African secondary schools
In the world of teaching mathematics, significant disparities persist in teaching effectiveness and the interventions employed by educators. This study investigates the challenges faced by mathematics teachers and explores interventions to enhance learner performance. Through a qualitative research design, seven dedicated mathematics teachers were sampled using a purposive snowball sampling approach. Data were gathered through structured interviews with participants from selected secondary schools in the Madibeng Local Municipality. The study findings underpin the hurdles teachers encounter, including insufficient resources, congested annual teaching plans, demotivated learners, ill-discipline, and subject coercion. These issues are further compounded by the broader educational inequalities in the South African education system, a legacy of its fragmented and unequal education system inherited from the apartheid dispensation. Despite these challenges, government schoolteachers adopted effective strategies such as scaffolding, weekly assessments, the use of past exam papers, and learner-centered approaches. The study concludes that to enhance teaching effectiveness, teachers need robust support and adequate resources. Additionally, government bodies, school heads of departments, and principals must effectively collaborate to provide these necessary support and resources, thereby improving learner outcomes and reducing dropout rates. This study contributes invaluable insights into the complexities of teaching mathematics, highlighting effective practices and interventions to keep learners engaged and prevent them from swaying away to mathematical literacy or leaving school altogether
A qualitative approach to Canva as a mathematics learning medium and its implementation in undergraduate students
The 5.0 society learning era must keep pace with technological developments to avoid monotony. Similarly, mathematics learning, including in universities, needs to adapt. Mathematics, often considered difficult and complex by undergraduate students, is expected to be easier to understand when integrated with technology. Through a qualitative approach, this study aimed to analyze the use of Canva as a medium for learning mathematics in a college environment. Canva is a web-based graphic design platform accessible to all groups. The use of Canva in mathematics education had a positive impact on undergraduate students’ engagement, creativity, and motivation. Canva offers a variety of features, including a whiteboard. This feature enables lecturers and undergraduate students to create an engaging learning atmosphere and easy-to-understand teaching materials. They could monitor the progress of discussions both individually and in groups. However, technology-based learning using Canva was not always run smoothly. An unstable internet connection could hinder the learning process with Canva, causing it to lag or even pause temporarily. Limited user knowledge and learning time also pose challenges during its implementation. These hurdles could be overcome with adequate institutional support and training. Therefore, using Canva in mathematics education could be an innovative approach that fosters digital transformation
