This case analyses the strategy of internationalisation through the study of a company that operates in the sector of renewable energies. From the case, valid lessons can be drawn regarding to: the existing differences between countries for a same industry, the need for developing knowledge about foreign countries to which the firm will expand prior to undertaking the internationalisation, and the specific characteristics of developing countries as opposed to developed ones and their impact on SMEs that are going to internationalise.
Meaning in the mind within the sociocultural commitment of Cognitive Linguistics
The article reviews the problem of meaning construction and language use in the field of sociocultural cognitive semantics, focusing on meaning as a dynamic experience construction process represented by virtue of language within multiple networks of human knowledge. After outlining the core theoretical assumptions, the article examines the empirical evidence on the processes that underlie the generation of meaning. The paper presents five outcomes for both usage-based theory and empirical linguistic methodology. In reviewing the evidence, we highlight issues of alternative potential explanations as well as remaining areas for future research. The approach establishes new findings and authentic contributions to cognitive linguistics
Sostenibilidad y educación ambiental en las universidades. Sustainability and Environmental Education at universities. doi 10.20420/ElGuiniguada.2017.139
Pestalozzi Avui: Finlàndia i l’Ensenyament de l’Euskera. doi 10.20420/ElGuiniguada.2017.134

Healthcare Videos Addressed to the Migrant Population: From Intercultural Mediation to Transcreation
Population movements result in multilingual and multicultural societies. Apart from the great amount of foreigners from different nationalities who visit Spain each year for short stays, during the last decades we have witnessed a great increase in the number of long-term students, workers and retired people who choose Spain as their destination. The need to reach and involve these groups of the population in healthcare promotion campaigns has challenged the role of public service interpreters and translators, who have been involved in the translation and elaboration of leaflets, posters, and also videos in a variety of languages. The objects of study of this piece of research are videos published in Spain addressed particularly to the migrant population. Our departure point is a reflection on the effectiveness of these videos. If they are to reach the migrant populations, who possess different ways of conceptualising and understanding health and care, may have different communication styles, and, of course, speak languages different from that of the health provider, it might be appropriate for the videos to be adapted. Just as advertising is transcreated in order to efficiently reach members of different cultures to persuade them, so health promotion campaigns should also be the object of transformation. The aim of this research is, thus, to analyse healthcare videos addressed to the migrant population in Spain to determine the kind of adaptations performed. The theoretical framework for this study is based on intercultural communication and public service translation. The methodology derives from a variety of disciplines, which include discourse analysis, publicity and advertising, ethnography, and sociology
Automatic domain-specific learning: towards a methodology for ontology enrichment
At the current rate of technological development, in a world where enormous amount of data are constantly created and in which the Internet is used as the primary means for information exchange, there exists a need for tools that help processing, analyzing and using that information. However, while the growth of information poses many opportunities for social and scientific advance, it has also highlighted the difficulties of extracting meaningful patterns from massive data. Ontologies have been claimed to play a major role in the processing of large-scale data, as they serve as universal models of knowledge representation, and are being studied as possible solutions to this. This paper presents a method for the automatic expansion of ontologies based on corpus and terminological data exploitation. The proposed “ontology enrichment method” (OEM) consists of a sequence of tasks aimed at classifying an input keyword automatically under its corresponding node within a target ontology. Results prove that the method can be successfully applied for the automatic classification of specialized units into a reference ontology
Neutral, risky or provocative? Trends in titling practices in complementary and alternative medicine articles (1995-2016)
This paper analyses the length and titling practices in the under-researched field of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM). Our corpus consisted of 360 articles published between 1995 and 2016 in three CAM journals. The length and frequency of Nominal, Verbal and Question titles were compared across genres and over time. A 40% overall title length increase was found. Our study confirms that title length is related to genre, research paper (RP) titles being significantly longer than reviews and case report titles. Moreover, RP titles were found to exhibit the greatest length increase over time. In this study, Nominal titles were the most frequent title type in the three genres and over the 20-year period analyzed, although they slightly decreased over time. In contrast, Verbal (full sentence) titles increased over time, especially in RP titles. Question titles were the only type that significantly increased over time, especially in review article titles. These findings were compared with those obtained by previous titleology research on conventional (CONV) medicine paper titles. We conclude that although CAM and CONV are divergent approaches to health care, their titling practices revealed more similarities than differences. These similarities may reflect a growing tendency towards practices associated with popular media to attract readership, such as use of Question and Verbal titles. This competition for attention could have serious implications for health care if the trend increases for clinicians to rely on the titles of relevant articles to make therapeutic decisions
