G/G/R MACHINING SYSTEM WITH GROUP FAILURE AND RENEGING
The objective of this paper is to obtain the steady state queue size distribution for G/G/R ,machining system with reneging. We assume that there are M operating machines and S spare machines maintained by R repairmen. The inter-failure and repair times are general identical independently distributed. We develop the approximation technique by retaining the continuous formulation of mean and variance of diffusion process under the assumption that diffusion process satisfies a one-dimensional equation in terms of transitional probability density function concentrated on a finite interval. The initial approximation provides the solution for discrete model based on the choice of a discrete distribution to approximate the queue size distribution. The proposed approximation can be easily implemented for computation purpose as results depend only upon the first two moments of inter-failure times, service times and batch size distributions
PHYSICO CHEMICAL STUDY OF PAKISTANI CRUDE OILS
Two crude oil samples collected from Tangri and Paniro (Sindh Pak oilfields) were fractionated into gasoline, kerosene and diesel range fractions. The distillate fractions were investigated from different aspects. Various physicochemical studies were carried out for the analysis of both of these crudes and their daughter fractions. SENSITIVITY OF JET CHARACTERISTICS ON DREDGING OF BED-SEDIMENTS IN A WATER-BODY
The use of a suction field aided by a jet system in a dredging process is one of the recent hydraulic methods in underwater dredging. The jet parameters have a great influence on the dredging efficiency. Jet induced impact energy that is required to initiate the bed motion and sediment pulsation is considered. Parametric sensitivity of various factors on dredging performance was carried out in an experimental set-up. Effects of changing the number of jets, jet geometry, suspension concentration, horizontal and vertical distances between jets and suction inlet on the dredging efficiency and the geometry of the excavation hole have been investigated. The results showed that several of these parameters have variable and significant effects on the dredging efficiency as well as the resulting geometry of the excavation
ANNEALING OF DRAWING GRADE STEEL COILS AT BELL TYPE FURNACES
Low carbon steel sheets are produced up to 0.5 mm thickness at Pakistan Steel. These sheets are used for different forming operations to produce auto parts, household appliances, car bodies etc. For such applications the metal must have high ductility, good forming properties and low yield strength. Hot band from 2-3 mm thickness is cold reduced up to 0.5 mm thickness at reversible cold rolling mill. Then annealed in bell type furnaces with inner height of 4.7 meters, where coils are heated up to lower critical line in controlled atmosphere of nitrogen and hydrogen. The material may fail during subsequent forming operation if the annealing regime at the bell type furnaces is not optimum. Objective of the work undertaken is to produce sheet of good shape up to 0.3 mm thickness and evaluate annealing regime to have intended forming properties
FLEXURAL BEHAVIOUR OF WATER BASED GLUE CONCRETE
Altogether nine beams have been tested to study the flexural behaviour of reinforced glue concrete. This test series could be divided into three groups of specimen; the first group being reinforced with two, second with three and third with four 3 mm dia steel wires placed at the bottom of the beams. No reinforcement was placed in the compression zone. However, attempt was made to improve the bond not only by providing iiooks at the ends but small pieces of cross wires were welded with main longitudinal bars at a distance of 100 mm centre to centre. The major parameter of study was the ultimate flexural strength of glue concrete in bending. Cubes and cylinders were also cast from each batch of glue concrete and were tested along with respective beams to determine the fundamental material properties so that those could be correlated with the strength in bending and the behaviour of the beams during the test
SELECTION OF REPLACEMENT BLADES FOR FAN ASSEMBLY OF TFE 731 ENGINES USING INTEGER PROGRAMMING
The replacement fan blades of TFE 731 engines used on Falcon, Jet Star, Learjet and K-8 aircraft are supplied in eight different weight/moment groups. In case of non-availability of blades of exact weight/moment, a blade of nearest weight/moment can be fitted under certain complex matching conditions. These matching conditions are important to prevent engine vibrations due to imbalance. This matching problem of the fan blades is modeled as aninteger-programming problem. Implicit enumeration technique is used for obtaining solution to the formulated, problem. The application of this approach yields results that would cause minimal change in the fan trim balance while fulfilling the matching restrictions
STRENGTH OF JOINTS BETWEEN OLD AND NEW CONCRETE
In repair work of building quite often one encounters a situation where new concrete is to be poured with the old one. Here cement in solution form is applied on the old surface and then new freshly mixed concrete is placed. Since no technical data could be found in the literature regarding the strength of old and new concrete joint, it was deemed best to perform a systematic and comprehensive experimental study. For this purpose altogether 1920 specimen were prepared and tested. The test program included determination of cube crushing strength ofspecimen without joint as reference material, old joint of rough and plain surfaces and new-old joints of both rough and plain surfaces. Apart from that cylinder split tests were also conducted. A large number of briquettes were tested to find the direct tensile strength and its reduction in case ofjoints of old- old and new-old joints
HYDRAULIC PERFORMANCE OF RAINGUN SPRINKLER IRRIGATION SYSTEM USING LOW CAPACITY DUGWELL
This research work was carried out at Phularwan Research Farm of the Mona Reclamation Experimental Project, WAPDA, at Tehsil Bhalwal of Sargodha district. Raingun (PY,-30) was operated with 12-mm and 10-mm nozzle sizes. Water source was a dugwell whose recharge rate was very less. Thus steady state could not be obtained as the discharge exceeded the recharge rate during pumping. The effect of continuous fall of water level in the dugwell on the performance of raingun sprinkler irrigation system was evaluated. Relationships were developed between various parameters affecting the performance of the system. Discharge, pressure and radius of raingun throw decreased with the fall of water level in the dugwell. These variations in the values of various parameters adversely affected the application rate and water distribution uniformity of the raingun sprinkler irrigation system. The reduction in size of nozzle with the fall of water level in the dugwell has caused some improvements. The coefficient of uniformity values increased toward the center of the wetted area. The hydraulic gradient was found very steep near the dugwell, which has reduced the radius of influence of the dugwell. The reason for slow recharge rate was found to be the clogged screen section of the dugwell as it had been abandoned for more than thirty years and tight brick lining having no perforations. Application rate increased with time ofpumping as the wetted area decreased due to reduction in radius of raingun throw.
 
A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF SANDWICH COMPOSITE UNDER SHORT TERM AND LONG TERM LOADING
Single phase materials cannot often cope with demands imposed- on them with respect to economies and structural safety combined with lightness of structural components. Sandwich composite materials are an outcome of such a requirement. The use of Sandwich composites in buildings has increased in the recent years as also in the other areas like heat shields, aerospace structures and aircraft etc. etc., where lightness combined with strength and durability is at premium. This paper discusses the effect of creep on Sandwich composite using ferrocement facings and cellular concrete core. This work is an extension of the work previously completed by the author
