REVIEW OF FRICTION AT TOOL-WORKPIECE INTERFACE DURING HIGH SPEED MACHINING
A brief description of the current state of research is presented for describing the importance, background, and major research concerns of high-speed-machining. To investigate high-speed friction, two novel apparatuses, the Modified Torsional Hopkinson (Kolsky) Bar and the Pressure-shear Plate Impact Friction Apparatus with some of the advantages of using the later over the former have been discussed, in addition to the role of high-speed friction at tool-work piece interface during high speed machining applications. There is a great need for in-depth understanding of the nature of dynamic friction forces between contacting bodies. This can be done by experiments covering the wide spectrum of tool-work piece interface during high speed machining applications
COPPER ORE FLOTATION PARAMETERS OPTIMIZATION USING STATISTICAL TECHNIQUES
Mathematical simulation has been used in mineral processing system design, optimization and control for more than 30 years. Presently a new set of simulation tools based on the physics of the underlying processes were developed. Because these models provide accurate micro scale simulations of equipment and process behavior, these high-fidelity simulation (HFS) tools are deemed to constitute a radical innovation of great importance to the mineral processing industry.This research study deals with the development of a mathematical model based on the parameters processes developed both at laboratory and pilot scale of North Waziristan copper ore. In the mathematical model the effect of four process parameters (parameters are denoted by X1, X2. X3 and X4) will be tested individually on grade (YG) (enrichment) of copper in the final product of North Waziristan. When the value of NaPX is 200 gm/ton, pH is 11.5, Na2S is 22 gm/ton and the value of NaCN is 58 gm/ton
SOLUTION OF DYNAMICS MODEL OF 6 DOF PARALLEL ROBOT MANIPULATOR
This work is aimed at studying the dynamic behavior of Parallel Robot Manipulator. This mechanism has six degrees of freedom, having a fixed base and a platform which acts as a free body, although, with some constraints. Dynamics models of this manipulator have been developed and tested.This paper discusses the simulation of dynamic models of the Parallel robot manipulator. Kane‘s equation were employed for developing the dynamic model. Singular configuration of the mechanism have also been investigated and reported. Simulation results of the developed inverse dynamic model have been obtained

The existing mining cost per ton of ore/waste is about $2.50’, which can be reduced by investigating different aspects of mining operations. DESIGN OF A MULTI-LEVEL SAMPLING WELL FOR MONITORING HYDRO-SALINITY BEHAVIOR UNDER SHALLOW TUBEWELLS
Multi-level sampling wells are installed to monitor the spatial and temporal changes in hydro-salinity in fresh-saline aquifer under different pumping regimes. Sampling wells consist of 5 mm diameter high density polyethylene tubes opened at different depth is ranging from 5 to 75 m. Lower end of each tube is perforated to allow lateral entry of the water. Water samples are collected using suction bottles attached to each tube. The storage effect during sampling is minimized by disposing off the already existing water in each tube. The sampling well is cost effective, easy to install and is suitable for collecting unmixed water samples at different depths in unconfined sand aquifers

REMOVAL OF N, P, AND COLIFORM BACTERIA IN A SINGLE SLUDGE ANOXIC-AEROBIC BIOLOGICAL PROCESS FOLLOWED BY SLOW SAND FILTER
The investigation reported in this paper is a part of an ongoing research aimed at finding simplified wastewater treatment operations which can produce acceptable effluent quality with less cost and using processes less demanding for operating skills. A single sludge two stage anoxicaerobic biological process followed by slow sand filter was operated in the laboratory with direct feed to the anoxic zone of municipal raw wastewater. Two sizes of filter media and 3 filter bed depths were investigated. Performance evaluation of the biological process, the slow and filter, and overall system for removal of N, P, and Coliform bacteria is presented in this paper.The biological process investigated produced moderate total nitrogen and phosphorous removals, but was found highly effective for reduction of total and fecal coliform bacteria. Average removals were: total N(52 58%), total P(17-32%), total coliform (98.8%), and fecal coliform (99.4%). The slow sand filter was not effective in improving nitrogen removal, but slightly improved phosphorous removal and proved highly effective for bacteria removal. No important differences were observed in performance of the coarse and fine filter media and among the investigated filter bed depths
STANDARD OF STANDARDS
The present day International standards for quality and environmental management system provides a framework of reference against which an organization is being audited by a third party auditors. The International standards, such as ISO 9000 Quality Management and Assurance System ( QMS ) and ISO 14000 Environmental Management System ( EMS ) are generic in nature and are equally applicable to both the goods manufacturing and services providing organizations. However, these generic quality standards are based on some specific industrialissues. In most cases, these standards are either almost duplicate or complementary to each other. These standards are voluntary for adaptation. However, the present practice has made it almost mandatory. This is especially true for all those organizations, which export their products, goods and services and also want to survive in the open economy of present day competitive world market.Training, documentation, registration and periodic auditing for goods, services and environmental standards of an organization are its major protocols. The issue of standards in a series of one after the other may keep the management of an organization busy with its administrative and regulatory requirements and also at time put them under pressure. Transformation of those closely related and complementary standards into a single but comprehensive quality standard (hereafter called as ‘Standard of Standards - SOS’ ) may relieve management of organizations from the increased commitment of training, documentation, certification and periodic audits protocols for each of these standards. Greater advantages are expected from the proposed transformation process. The only disadvantage of slightly cumbersome nature of the proposed standard stands against the transformation process that is overcome by its huge advantages
LOW HEAD DRIP IRRIGATION SYSTEM FOR SMALL LAND HOLDINGS
Standard drip irrigation systems which have been used successfully for different crops and fruit plants are often too expensive for the small land holders with a cultivated area of perhaps one hectare or less. The present study provided information based on which it can be stated that low head ( 2 m or less water head ) can provide all the advantages of a standard drip irrigation system. For irrigated areas of approximately one hectare or less the uniformity of application is within the acceptable limits if planned appropriately and ground elevation differences are utilized for gaining water heads. Low head drip irrigation systems were installed at two places, with 1.90 and 2.35 m head. The coefficient of uniformity (CU ) varied from 76 to 91%. It was observed that 0.57 m drop in water head decreased the CU by 15%
SOME MEASUREMENTS OF AMBIENT AIR POLLUTION
Ambient air pollution arising from different sources in Karachi and its surroundings has been studied. The urban centres like Karachi are mostly confronted with eye-irritation, reduce visbility, heart-diseases, nervous disorder, smogs and other unpleasant experiences. In this paper quantitative estimations of some air-pollutants such as sulphur dioxide, carbon monoxide, oxides of nitrogen, chlorine and particulate matters are presented with their hazardous effects. The remedial measures for the control of major air emissions are also discussed
