Mission: Then and Now
Get PDFSix years after Jennie M. Gheer arrived with Elizabeth Russell and established Kwassui in Nagasaki, she turned her face towards Fukuoka to plant a “daughter” school.2 Greeting her upon her arrival were a great many people eager to meet their new teacher.3 From the beginning the school was prosperous and by the grace of God is soon nearing its sesquicentennial. The academy of Fukuoka Jo Gakuin has a reputation as a “Mission” school. Beginning in 2005 the Junior College adopted the name, “Mission,” for the cover of its publications.4 In 2022, the primary focus of the philosophy of the academy is “connecting to Jesus.”5 In addition, the diploma policy of the junior college has “fearing God through Jesus Christ”as its primary goal.6 This paper investigates the “mission” of Fukuoka Jo Gakuin in its earliest sense through the archive of data recorded by missionaries. Furthermore, it combines the eternal sense of “mission” generated in the Father heart of God as recorded in Bible history. Lastly Mission: Then and Now contributing to the overall understanding of “mission” developed in this paper is the impression of “mission” given by Elizabeth Lee, Principal of Fukuoka Jo Gakko (1915-1924)
Support for parenting resilience from primary school teacher's point of view
No full text小学生保護者の多くが子どもの養育や学習に不安を感じており、養育困難に良好に適応する「養育レジリエンス」の向上が検討されている。教師が教育的支援を進めていくためには学校と家庭の連携が必要であり、本研究では小学校教師からみた保護者の養育レジリエンスへの支援を検討した。小学校教師、小学校保護者と発達障がい者親の会保護者に対し、子育てに関する学びや支援の利用の実状について質問紙調査を行った。 小学校保護者の情報の入手や学びは身近な人やインターネットの利用を挙げていた。教師は、保護者が子育てに関して専門家から学ぶことや支援を利用することは、保護者の養育レジリエンスを向上させ、学校と家庭の連携に効果的と考えていた。親の会保護者はグループ活動による専門家からの学びや支援を利用しており、教師の考える保護者支援と類似していた。また、教師は医療、福祉、心理専門家と連携して保護者の養育レジリエンスへの支援を行い、研修等により保護者との共通認識を持ち、適切な教育的支援を行なっていくことが重要であると考える
Multi-modal Corpus Tool 2.0 for young EFL learners
Get PDFWith the advancement of information technology, various types of corpora and concordance software are being developed for language research across different disciplines. Despite such advancements, the corpus-based approach to language learning (e.g., DDL - Data-driven learning) is still mostly limited to tertiary learners and DDL with young learners in English as a foreign language (EFL) context remains underresearched. This paper discusses the pedagogical potential of DDL with young learners using the Multi-modal Corpus Tool (MmCT) (Hirata, 2016;2020). After showing that the result of a case study conducted with pre service teachers on the use of DDL (Hirata, 2020) justifies the need to develop MmCT further for its use with young learners, this paper reports on the recent development of the tool (MmCT 2.0) and describes the pedagogical and theoretical considerations of the newly added functions

A Note on the Genealogy of Consumer’s Preference Theory : Revealed Preference Theory and its Peripherals
Get PDFIn the consumer preference theory, discussions have been made for a long time based on the cardinal utility function theory that presupposes the measurable utility. These arguments can be traced back to Walras, however the utility functions are originally unobservable and difficult to compare and quantify with each other. Starting from this recognition, many researchers have made the ordinal utility function theory, instead of the cardinal utility, the mainstream in the field of consumer selection theory. In this paper, without assuming the existence of a utility function, starting from an observable demand function, the zero-order homogeneity of the demand function, the demand law of price and consumption, and the semi-negative constant sign of the Slutsky alternative matrix are discussed as the major outputs derived from so-called as the revealed preference theory. The light will be shed on the outline of the revealed preference theory, which has succeeded in deriving important laws and characteristics in the field of consumer preference in consumer behavior theory, as well as on its historical significance
