The high prevalence of skin diseases in Indonesia necessitates the exploration of natural therapeutic alternatives, particularly utilizing sweet orange peel (Citrus sinensis L. Osbeck) waste. This study aimed to evaluate the antibacterial efficacy of sweet orange peel extract against skin infection pathogens, specifically Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis. Extraction was performed using the Ultrasonic Assisted Extraction (UAE) method. Antibacterial assays included the determination of Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC) using the solid dilution method, followed by the identification of active compounds via Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC)-Bioautography. Phytochemical screening revealed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, tannins, and triterpenoids in the extract. The extract demonstrated antibacterial activity with an MIC value of 0.4% and an MBC value of 25.6%. TLC-Bioautography analysis detected inhibition zones corresponding to three Rf values (0.90, 0.32, 0.16) against S. aureus and four Rf values (0.90, 0.67, 0.32, 0.16) against S. epidermidis. The bioactive compounds responsible for this inhibition were identified as alkaloids and flavonoids. In conclusion, the ethanol extract of sweet orange peel exhibits effective antibacterial activity against skin pathogens, mediated by its alkaloid and flavonoid conten

Hypertension, or high blood pressure, is a condition characterized by a sustained increase in blood pressure, exceeding the normal value of ≥140/90 mmHg. Hypertension therapy aims to lower both systolic and diastolic blood pressure to restore normal levels and minimize the risk of complications. The use of herbal plants such as bidara leaves (Ziziphus mauritiana L.) and Javanese ginseng (Talinum paniculatum (Jacq.) Gaertn.) holds potential as an alternative in the management of hypertension. Medicinal plants and plant-derived compounds can exhibit various toxicological effects, including renal, cardiac, and hepatic toxicity. This study aims to investigate the effects of Bidara leaf extract and Java ginseng leaf extract on the macroscopic appearance of the kidneys, heart, and liver of prednisone-induced hypertensive rats. The study used 20 rats divided into five groups: negative control (Na-CMC 1%), positive control (Captopril 25 mg), and three groups receiving combined doses of bidara leaf and Javanese ginseng leaf ethanol extracts (EEBG 50+50 mg/kgBW, EEBG 100+100 mg/kgBW, EEBG 200+200 mg/kgBW). The results showed that the combination extract of Bidara leaves (Ziziphus mauritiana L.) and Ginseng leaves (Talinum paniculatum (Jacq.) Geartn.) at doses of 50+50, 100+100, and 200+200 mg/kgBW did not cause any macroscopic changes. Macroscopic observations showed that the kidneys, hearts, and livers of mice administered EEBG maintained a reddish-brown color with a firm consistency and smooth surfac

Antioxidant Activity Analysis of Endophytic Fungal Isolates IFBZ5, IFBZ6, and IFBZ7 from the Stem of Bidara (Ziziphus mauritiana Lam.)

Endophytic fungal isolates coded IFBZ5, IFBZ6, and IFBZ7 derived from the stem of the bidara plant (Ziziphus mauritiana Lam.) have shown potential antioxidant properties. This study aims to test the antioxidant activity of endophytic fungal isolates on the bidara plant stem (Ziziphus mauritiana Lam.) by TLC-Autography method and DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazil) free radical silencing. This study used endophytic fungi isolates code IFBZ-5, IFBZ-6 and IFBZ-7 which were fermented for 21 days using MYB medium which was then liquid-liquid extracted with ethyl acetate (1:1) and evaporated. The fermentate extract obtained was then tested for antioxidant activity qualitatively and quantitatively. Qualitative analysis using TLC plates indicated antioxidant activity in all isolates. Quantitative analysis showed that isolate IFBZ7 exhibited strong antioxidant activity with an IC50 value of 50.120 ppm, while IFBZ5 and IFBZ6 showed very weak activity with IC50 values of 2.482.363 µg/mL and 467.847 µg/mL, respectively. The BHT comparator had an IC50 value of 6.778 µg/mL. This shows that the antioxidant power of endophytic fungal isolates coded IFBZ5, IFBZ6 and IFBZ7 is lower than the antioxidant activity of BHT as a comparison
