    Targeted Injection Therapies for Temporomandibular Joint Disorders: A Comparative Review of Hyaluronic Acid and Botox Techniques

    Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of different injection therapies for temporomandibular joint disorders (TMD) and answer the research question: how do botulinum toxin (onabotulinumtoxinA, Botox) and hyaluronic acid (HA) injections affect symptoms of temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD)? Methods: An electronic search of three databases was performed using the search terms “Treatment of TMD or TMJ” and one of the following: 1) “Hyaluronic Acid Injection” or 2) “Intramuscular Botox Injection”. Based on studies done with human patients, the effects of both hyaluronic acid and Botox injections as treatments for TMD were observed and analyzed. Inclusion criteria were: full articles in English, studies conducted in North America or Europe, and articles published from 2015 to the present. Review articles and abstract-only articles were excluded. Results: A total of 20 sources were found and analyzed; eight related to Botox and 12 related to HA. Of the eight Botox articles, six showed a reduction of pain based on the visual analogue scale (VAS) score, and two showed an increased range of motion. Out of the 12 articles related to HA, 12 showed a reduction in pain based on the VAS scores, and 11 showed an increased range of motion. Conclusions: About half of the studies indicate that Botox can reduce pain and increase joint range of motion. Compared to HA, almost all studies showed decreased pain and increased range of motion. This indicates that both treatment methods were associated with successful treatment of TMD symptoms. However, HA was most effective in treating symptoms of TMD

    Compensation Transparency in the U.S. Healthcare Workforce

    This study investigates how perceptions of pay transparency among U.S. healthcare workers relate to work engagement, burnout levels, and intentions to stay with their current institution. A quantitative survey was conducted of 200 clinical and non-clinical employees across academic, nonprofit, for-profit, and government healthcare organizations. Self-reported views of transparency were evaluated in relation to validated measures of work engagement, burnout, stay intentions, and pay secrecy. The results showed that increased perceived compensation transparency was highly connected with greater work engagement and lower levels of burnout. Both engagement and burnout appeared as major indicators of the employees\u27 intentions to stay with their respective firms. Regression and mediation analyses further demonstrated that transparency has a direct positive effect on retention attitudes. Employee burnout is lessened and work engagement is enhanced indirectly by transparency. The research findings reveal that salary transparency acts as an important organizational practice, which assists in promoting the well-being of employees and enhancing workforce stability. The research provides evidence-based insights for administrators and human resource professionals in healthcare while contemplating the strengthening of measures to solve concerns connected to fairness, communication, and retention by establishing or refining transparency initiatives in compensation systems

    Informal Social Media Activities in Online Learning Fostering a Sense of Community through Instagram

    A sense of community positively relates to students’ engagement, increasing learning and satisfaction. Previous studies on the sense of community have focused on academic interactions. This study investigates the potential for enhancing the sense of community among online learners through informal social media activities. A total of 20 undergraduate students completed surveys and participated in three-week Instagram activities. The study revealed the potential to foster students’ sense of community by incorporating informal social media activities into online learning

    Views from the Cheap Seats: Understanding the Key Motivators Behind Sport Volunteering

    Sport volunteers are imperative to the success of sport mega events. Knowing why volunteers continue to help events was the purpose of this study. This study aimed to investigate the motivations of sport volunteers post Covid-19. Data were collected from 30 volunteers at the 2023 NCAA College World Series. Inductive qualitative analysis and descriptive statistics found that community support was the reason the respondents were most glad to volunteer. The findings offered insight into how communication factors between supervisors, law enforcement, and other volunteers affected volunteer motivation. The theoretical and practical implications of these results are discussed in more detail in the manuscript.
