    CHEMICAL RISK DUE TO THE CONTAMINATION OF MEDICINAL PLANTS WITH POLYCYCLIC AROMATIC HYDROCARBONS

    The content of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) of some commercially available herbal teas was assessed by high performance liquid chromatography using an Agilent 1100 system with fluorescence detection; naphthalene, acenaphthene, fluorene, phenanthrene, anthracene, fluoranthene, pyrene, benzo(a)anthracene, chrysene, benzo(b)fluoranthene, benzo(k)fluor-anthene, benzo(a)pyrene, dibenzo(a,h)anthracene, benzo(g,h,i)perylene and indeno(1,2,3-c,d)pyrene were separated using an Envirosep PP column and quantified in herbal samples. Each herbal tea showed a particular contamination pattern, depending on the environmental conditions in which the plants were grown and of the processing practices used by producers. The maximum overall PAH’s content was recorded for dandelion, mulberry and St. John’s wort, while basil and fennel proved to have the minimum PAH contamination

    Pelargonium roseum Willd. is an herbaceous species, belonging to the Geraniaceae family, cultivated in Romania as an ornamental species. The present study aims to establish the identity of this species, by the microscopic analysis of the vegetative and reproductive organs. The main method used for the study of the species was optical microscopy. Macroscopic and microscopic characters of the vegetative (root, stem, leaf) and reproductive (flower) organs were identified. Data obtained in this study are important criteria for the identification of the species

    Dahlia is a semi-rustic perennial plant with a long period of decoration from July to late autumn. Nowadays, Dahlia was widely used even in economical purpose: in landscaping, in floristry as a cut flower, for the pharmaceutical industry, cosmetic, food and as raw material for the extraction of dyes. Both the tuberous roots and the flowers of this ornamental and medicinal plant are used for therapeutic purposes. The biochemical composition that is very varied containing: flavonoids, carbohydrates (inulin), polysaccharides but also other uses, it is desirable to promote valuable cultivars for use in breeding works for the production of descendants that combine polygene for a high decorative value and an increased inulin content

    In landscaping, one of the frequently used plants is Buxus sempervirens L. The aesthetic value of these plants are often affected by the pests species that attack the leaves. The main species that attacks the Buxus spp. plants are: Monarthropalpus buxi Geoff., Psylla buxi L. and Cydalima perspectalis Walker. The attack of these species cause the drying of the plants.The Box Tree Moth, Cydalima perspectalis Walker., is a new species, on the European continent, being first recorded în 2006. In Romania, this species was reported in 2010, near Bucharest, from where it has been spread throughout the country. In Cluj has been reported in 2015. For establishing  some control strategies, for this, it is necessary to know the bioecology of this species, depending on the specific environmental conditions of each area where the attack is present. In 2016 we have started the investigations to study the biological cycle, in Cluj area. The investigations were conducted in the laboratory and on the campus of UASVM Cluj-Napoca. In the investigated area, the species develops two full generations, and the third generation is partial. The adults of hibernating generation fly in the first decade of June until the first decade of July. Summer generation adults fly from the first decade of August, creating the second generation and the adults who establish the third generation (partial generation) fly in the second half of September. The incubation is between 5-6 days. Larval stage is between 29-38 days, pupal stage last from 10 to 14 days

Functional foods represent one of the most interesting areas of researchand innovation in the food industry (Annunziata and Vecchio, 2011). The naturalantioxidants present in food have received considerable interest because of their safetyand potential nutritional and therapeutic effects. Generally, wheat bread is consideredto be a good source of energy and irreplaceable nutrients for the human body at thesame time bread made with white flour is a food with a low antioxidant capacity.(Dariusz et al. 2014). This review is focused on enriching the wheat bread with naturalraw materials rich in phenolic antioxidants such as spices, herbs and parts of greenplants. These raw materials are often cheap and a very good source of phenolicantioxidants.     Salvia officinalis L. originates from southern Europe and it wasconsidered to be able to prolong life. In the Arab world, sage was called "grass ofBedouins" and it was known that it strengthens the memory and sharpens thesenses. Raw materials are leaves (Salviae folium) or the aerial part (Salviae herba).Volatile oil and other components in the leaves of sage have choleretic effect,carminative, against excessive sweating, as well as antibacterial and antifungalaction, being used in preserving meat. In the experiments conducted we used twoproducts to stimulate rooting cuttings of Salvia officinalis L.: CLONEX gel andRADI STIM no. 2. From the results obtained it was observed that rapid rooting ofsage cuttings is carried out using as substrates perlite + gel (CLONEX), peat + gel(CLONEX) and perlite + Radi-Stim no.

    Preliminary Research on the Wheat Pests and on Their Integrated Control during 2015-2016, at Agricultural Research-Development Station Turda

    In Transylvania, the evolution of wheat insect pests is strongly influenced by the ecotehnological conditions, by climate change and current technology (Malschi, 2009 Malschi et al., 2015). The paper presents the dynamics and importance of the main pests of wheat (thrips, aphids, leafhoppers, wheat flies, cereals sunbugs, investigated under the integrated pest control system suitable of the area. During 2015-2016, the investigations were conducted at the Agricultural Research and Development Station Turda, from the wheat no tillage cultural system with cereal rotation of three years and applying all zonal recommendations of technology and phytosanitary complex. The pest monitoring was performed based on the samples collected with entomological net, by decadal 100 sweep-net catches/sample. The study data shows the danger of the attack of abundant populations of wheat flies (Phorbia securis, Delia coarctata, Opomyza florum, Oscinella frit etc.; wheat fleas (Chaetocnema aridula) and cereal leaf beetle (Oulema melanopa); leafhoppers (Psammotettix alienus, Javesella pellucida, Macrosteles laevis); aphids (Sitobion avenae, Schizaphis graminum, Rhopalosiphum padi); thrips (Haplothrips tritici), sunbugs (Eurygaster maura, Aelia acuminata) etc., and the necessity of applying insecticide treatments on the vegetation.Since 2015, a stronger impact of global warming on the wheat pests structure (%) are found. This change began on the last ten years. The importance of cereal sunbugs is increasing, well as the importance of the wheat flies, aphids and leafhoppers, which requires professional study on the pest dynamics and adequate integrated control of wheat pests
