    HERBS AND SPICES AS IMPORTANT SOURCE OF ANTIOXIDANT AND PHENOLIC CONTENT IN BLACK RADISH DRESSING

    Taking into account the new requirements in food stuff behavior to improve the quality of products by creating products rich in biologically active compounds with real benefits for the health of consumers, the main direction of the investigations was focused on the use of black radish juice in the form of salad dressing in addition with herbs and spices like Peppermint and Herbs de Provence, a herb mixture contain savory, marjoram, rosemary, thyme, and oregano. This study aimed to achieve an innovative dressing obtained in two prototypes by the same production method, one flavored with 1% Peppermint and the second flavored with 1% Herbs de Provence. The recipe was optimized in order to adjust the radish juice to the right sugar content by concentrated and sweetened with honey. The chemical assessment consisted of both the analysis on the raw material, as well as on the final product. Common physicochemical methods were applied for the dry matter, ash content, total acidity, vitamin C content and sugar content. Total phenolic and antioxidant activity were assessed by using Folin Ciocalteau method, and DPPH method, on final product. According to the study, it was found that the use of black radish juice in obtaining dressing for salads has been demonstrated, and from a sensory point of view the flavor dressing prototype with 1% Herbs de Provence was better accepted by consumers, according to the general hedonic score and had a higher content of biologically active compounds

    Bioremediation Potential of Native Hydrocarbons Degrading Bacteria in Crude Oil Polluted Soil

    Bioremediation of crude oil contaminated soil is an effective process to clean petroleum pollutants from the environment. Crude oil bioremediation of soils is limited by the bacteria activity in degrading the spills hydrocarbons. Native crude oil degrading bacteria were isolated from different crude oil polluted soils. The isolated bacteria belong to the genera Pseudomonas, Mycobacterium, Arthrobacter and Bacillus. A natural biodegradable product and bacterial inoculum were used for total petroleum hydrocarbon (TPH) removal from an artificial polluted soil. For soil polluted with 5% crude oil, the bacterial top, including those placed in the soil by inoculation was 30 days after impact, respectively 7 days after inoculum application, while in soil polluted with 10% crude oil,  multiplication top of bacteria was observed in the determination made at 45 days after impact and 21 days after inoculum application, showing once again how necessary is for microorganisms habituation and adaptation to environment being a function of pollutant concentration. The microorganisms inoculated showed a slight adaptability in soil polluted with 5% crude oil, but complete inhibition in the first 30 days of experiment at 10% crude oil

    Water ecosystems are constantly under the pressure of a high number of biotic and abiotic factors, and their action leads to the occurrence of fluctuations in species and populations. The specific response of organisms to external pressures leads to the reorganization of ecosystems, with qualitative and quantitative changes. The aim is to identify the microbial groups with the highest potential in the waste waters. Data were collected during 2015-16 in Bistrita. Identifying the bioindicators quality of microorganisms and their importance in ecosystems was done by comparing them with international databases. The use of microorganisms as bioindicators involves knowing the requirements for one or more environmental variables. The concept refers to the ability of microorganisms to accumulate pollutants. Flagellates are tolerant to acidity and react quickly and with sensitivity to environmental stress by inhibiting their movement. The multiplication of flagellates and filamentous bacteria is manifested through water disturbance and foam production

    FIXED HETEROSIS: EFFECTIVE GENETIC BASIS IN BREEDING OF THE SALVIA SCLAREA L. SPECIES

    It has been demonstrated that the use of fixed heterosis is an effective genetic basis in breeding of the Salvia sclarea species. The phenotype of inbred lines derived from the varieties by hybrid origin with fixed heterosis Ambra Plus and Nataly Clary was varied and genetic segregation was expressed in the diversity of quantitative traits such as plant height, inflorescence length and their structure, essential oil content. Along with the inbred lines S3 generations in which the content of essential oil is lower than that in the varieties they originate from, lines have been produced with high (1.001-1.350%) and very high (1.351-1.600%) content, the latter ones making 20% of the lines derived from the variety Ambra Plus and 11% of the total number of the lines derived from Nataly Clary.Inbreeding results in phenologic changes: the S2- S3 inbred lines fall into three groups of maturation; early-middle- and late-ripening that constitute 24, 48, and 28% respectively, in the lines derived from Ambra Plus and 33% in each group of the lines derived from Nataly Clary. The inbred lines with high and very high content of essential oil are valuable genotypes in view of the improvement of raw material quality and the increase of the productivity of new varieties of Salvia sclarea

    The Cumulative Effect of Manure on a Festuca Rubra Grasslands for 15 Years

    Over time, studies of the vegetation of natural grasslands have evolved from simple observations to rigorous research. Feed obtained from natural meadows without major technological imputations is mediocre in quality, and pastures in a rather advanced state of degradation. The main purpose of this paper is the ecological and fodder evaluation of the Festuca rubra type of grasslands in the Apuseni Mountains based on the floristic composition and the productivity of these grasslands. The experience was carried out in Ghetari village, Apuseni Mountains, which was located in 2001, following the method of randomized blocks with 4 experimental variants in 4 rehearsals. Each variant were fertilized with organic inputs using the same quantities each year. In the paper we use the results obtained after 15 years of experience. The application of organic fertilizers caused significant changes in the canopy causing changes in the dominance of the type of grassland. The livestock manure applied on the studied grassland has increases significant yield production at all variants of fertilization.In this paper it was shown on which species the productivity of the grassland increased from the control variant to the fertilized variant with the maximum dose. Regarding the analysis of the phytodiversity, this tells us if the number of species is reduced in all the treatments, 10 t/ha of manure leads to an increase in phytocoenosis equivalence and implicitly to the Shannon index

    The influence of climatic conditions changes on grain yield in Winter Triticale (X Triticosecale Wittm.)

    The aim of this paper is making out the influence of climatic changes on grain yield of winter triticale in relation with applied fertilizer. The influence of environmental conditions on growing and development of triticale plants depends of grow stages and their duration. During five experimental years (2010-2015) the climatic conditions were different year to year, with an accentuated heating trend, influencing plant phenology, accelerating or slowing down some important processes disturbing grain yield formation. The influence of drought is more accentuated by heating stress and prolonging of these conditions during the main phenological processes have a negative influence on plant growth or development with effect on the grain yield formation process

    Using Apple (Malus domestica), Pumpkin (Cucurbita maxima) and Cinnamon (Cinnamom vertum) to Obtain an Innovative Jam-Like Food Product

    The apple, the pumpkin and the cinnamon are raw materials that could be innovatively combined to produce a new sugar-preserved product following an original recipe. It can be considered in accordance with the European quality of jam-type varieties. It is a hybrid product, a component of “the European gastronomy” with old Bavarian roots and Romanian raw material. An adapted technological scheme and a recipe based on the TSS of the raw material and of the finished product were used. The quality indicators were determined using analytical methods. The PCA with the results provided by the panelists were used for the study of the aromatic profile. An identification of flavors, such as apple and cinnamon, is reported, which contributes to the specificity of the sensory profile of the jam. The new product has: TSS = 63.6 oBrix, TA = 0.2%, VA = 0.105 %. These values fall within the range of values for other jam and experimental jam assortments. The proportion of solids is 34%, which is far too low compared to the 45% minimum accepted limit. Taking into account that there is no “surface lifting” flaw, it is recommended to accept the value for the new assortment

Romania is situated in a transitional continental climate with suitableconditions for hardy iris species and thus with good prospects for successfulcultivation of Iris germanica, Iris florentina and Iris pallida in conditions ofeconomic efficiency

    MEDICINAL HERBS IN ROMANIAN PHARMACOPOEIAS - 155 YEARS OF HISTORY

    155 years ago, in 1862, a team of doctors and pharmacists wrote the first Romanian Pharmacopoeia (RPh I). There will be another 9 pharmacopoeias and their supplements (1874-RPh II, 1893-RPh III, 1926-RPh IV, 1943-RPh V, 1943-RPh V, 1948-RPh VI, 1956-RPh VII, 1965-RPh VIII, 1976-RPh IX, 1993-RPh X). From the first edition until 1993, 289 medicinal plants (176 indigenous plants, 113 exotic plants) were described, their number decreasing from 180 (RPh I) to 48 (RPh X). The most common species in Romanian Pharmacopoeias are: Acacia senegal, Achillea millefolium, Aconitum Napellus, Aloe species, Althaea officinalis, Artemisia absinthium, Astragalus tragacantha, Atropa belladonna, Carum carvi, Chelidonium majus, Cinchona officinalis, Cinnamomum species, Datura stramonium, Gentiana lutea, Glycyrrhiza glabra, Hypericum perforatum, Juniperus communis, Lavandula species, Linum usitatissimum, Papaver somniferum, Pimpinella anisum, Ricinus communis, Sinapis nigra, Thymus vulgaris, Theobroma cacao, Valeriana officinalis etc. All of these pharmacopoeia plants, alongside other unofficial plants (Hippophae rhamnoides, Alchemilla vulgaris, Humulus lupulus) or those acclimatised in our country (Echinacea angustifolia) or taxa (Papaver bracteatum, Vinca minor) are currently being used in various fields: pharmaceutical, industrial, cosmetic, food, with the hope for the future guideline pharmaceutical to pay more attention to the herbal monographs
