The article discusses the literary debut of Albanian author Ornela Vorpsi: Il paese dove non si muore mai, which retraces the years she lived in her home country – then under Enver Hoxha’s dictatorship – and analyzes some of most inhumane limitations on freedom, both public and private.Special attention is given to the female condition, oppressed under Hoxha’s regime and subjected to deep stigmatization, often perpetuated by women themselves. The article also explores the connection with the fairy tale genre through Italo Calvino’s interpretation. It clarifies the relationship between Vorpsi, the Italian author and the significance of the fairy tale contextualized within this representation of a journey of struggle and search for freedom.L’articolo tratta dell’esordio letterario dell’autrice albanese Ornela Vorpsi: Il paese che non muore mai, che ripercorre i suoi anni vissuti nel proprio paese di origine – all’epoca sotto la dittatura di Hoxha – e analizza alcuni delle limitazioni più disumane della libertà, pubblica almeno quanto privata.

The hospitality industry is shaped by globalisation, competition, and the post-COVID-19 environment, requiring new strategic management priorities. This study examines how economic, socio-cultural, and digital factors can be integrated into an attribute-based model for sustainable development. Using a systematic and comparative approach, six contexts of sustainability were identified: socio-cultural, economic, environmental, institutional, technological, and regional. The model provides an interdisciplinary framework for adaptive strategies, enabling both targeted enterprise management and effective governmental support. Its application helps optimise business operations, address global challenges, and foster a competitive, resilient hospitality industry tailored to regional specifics. The Ai Khanoum Papyrus, Xenocrates’ and Aristotle’s Fragment: Some Textual and Exegetical Suggestions
In this article, I intend to reconstruct the current state of research concerning the Ai Khanoum papyrus, found in Afghanistan in 1977, which contains a fragment of a dialogue on a Platonic subject dating from the second half of the 3rd century BCE. By reviewing existing studies, I present new arguments in support of certain exegetical proposals. In particular, I adopt the theory that the doctrine discussed in this brief text can be traced back to Xenocrates, the scolarch of the Academy after Plato and Speusippus. Additionally, I support the position of those scholars who attribute the fragment to the lost Aristotelian work De philosophia, likely brought to Ai Khanoum in the 3rd century BCE by the Peripatetic Clearchus of Soli. This analysis also incorporates a newly proposed reconstruction of the Greek text, which is more closely aligned with the ink traces visible in photographs of the now-lost original, as well as a subsequent new Italian translation that accounts for the peculiarities and roughness of the Greek text.In this article, I intend to reconstruct the current state of research concerning the Ai Khanoum papyrus, found in Afghanistan in 1977, which contains a fragment of a dialogue on a Platonic subject dating from the second half of the 3rd century BCE. In this article, I intend to reconstruct the current state of research concerning the Ai Khanoum papyrus, found in Afghanistan in 1977, which contains a fragment of a dialogue on a Platonic subject dating from the second half of the 3rd century BCE. Critical Global Value Chains Laws
The European Union's regulation of corporate abuses regarding human rights and the environment in Global Value Chains (GVCs) is supposedly transformative. Central to this regulatory framework is the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CS3D), which mandates that companies identify, prevent, and mitigate adverse impacts on human rights and the environment throughout their value chains. Delving into the implications of such a semiotic object by referring to Deleuze and Guattari’s rhizome, developed in A Thousand Plateaus, the paper critically investigates this paradigm shift. To do so, the paper makes the concept of rhizome instrumental, providing tools for situating law in a co-produced landscape rather than separating law from the landscape. Moving the analysis from an abstract legal plane towards an immanent, material plane, the paper scrutinizes how the meta-norm of due diligence operates both as a regulatory discharge to companies and as a mechanism for co-producing regulatory outcomes through data-based, knowledge-based, ultimately value-based framings. Entering the landscape of corporate due diligence means considering the diverse data, instruments, and expertise involved in assessing the socio environmental impact of an economic activity. How do the entanglements of expert knowledge and institutional regimes produce normative discourses constitutive of an ‘impact’. Overall, this paper comes from a personal sense of dissatisfaction with the current state of a new regulatory object referred to as GVCs Laws. It is then a first attempt to reflexively look at these complex structures without overlooking their affects and effects. The contribution seeks to inform what ultimately shape the meaning of ‘impact’, of ‘due diligence’ and how does this subsequently shape a specific – and not desirable nor reflexive – pathway for socio-ecological transitions
The renowned taste of Queen Maria Pia (1847-1911) for silverware and her genuine interest in following the production of some of the most innovative manufacturers in this branch of decorative arts, both within and outside Europe, is clearly evident in the silver pieces she acquired from the American firm Gorham Manufacturing Company in the 1880s. Far beyond their utilitarian nature, these are sophisticated and alluring artistic objects that stand out for their sublime decorative fantasy, revealing in a unique way the influence of Japonism in Western art.
In this article, we present a biographical overview of the manufacturer, whose silverware objects are housed in the Ajuda National Palace. We focus on the development of this company, emphasizing its pioneering spirit in the art of working metals under the influence of the japonizing style, and we identify the silver objects under study. We explore the nature of the commission, seeking at the same time to grasp this new and peculiar facet of the queen's taste. In the future, we intend to present findings relating to the documentation of the commission and the circumstances in which this silverware was used.
This research, anchored in the study of the pieces, the interpretation of extensive contemporary documentation and specialized bibliography, benefited from a research grant in the Gorham Manufacturing Company Archive, held at the John Hay Library, Brown University, Providence, Rhode Island, USA; granted by the Luso-American Development Foundation in 2010.O reconhecido gosto da rainha D. Maria Pia (1847-1911) pela ourivesaria e o genuíno interesse com que acompanhou a produção de alguns fabricantes mais inovadores neste ramo das artes decorativas, dentro e fora da Europa, está bem patente nas pratas que adquiriu à firma americana Gorham Manufacturing Company na década de 80.
With a PhD in Communication Sciences and a professorship in Cultural Theory from Universidade Nova de Lisboa, José Bragança de Miranda reflects on the theme of freedom in an interview with Biblos, exploring the intersection of Communication, Philosophy, History, and Politics. Refractory to the monistic logic of thought and organisations, the current rector of Lusófona University considers that, if it ever existed, the end of history began with the revolutions that led to the control of absolute power. Recognising that control of this power is not a definitive achievement, José Bragança de Miranda argues, however, that history shows that choosing the worst is not inevitable for humanity. Therefore, rather than discussing concepts such as freedom, he believes it is important to make use of them, updating the legacy of many heroes of the past in every tiny moment of the present.
The objective of this research was to study the perception of the population in the coastal area of the state of Paraná regarding environmental risks. This region is of importance since it has the largest remnant of the Brazilian Atlantic Forest, is under strong anthropogenic influence, and has historically suffered extreme climatic events. A questionnaire was administered to a sample comprising 395 residents of the region, encompassing the socio-economic profile, perception of environmental risks, and personality traits of the respondents. The primary contribution of the study is to demonstrate that risk perception is moderate, significant, and positively associated across four dimensions of the personality traits scale: extroversion, conscientiousness, agreeableness, and openness. The work provides valuable insights into understanding how psychological factors can influence the subjective assessment of environmental risk situations.O objetivo desta pesquisa foi estudar a percepção da população do Litoral do estado do Paraná, sobre riscos ambientais, pois esta região possui o maior remanescente da Mata Atlântica do Brasil, está sob forte influência antrópica, e historicamente já sofreu eventos climáticos extremos.
