    Potassium diphenyl phosphide (KPPh2), which forms a highly nucleophilic phosphide anion, was used as an initiator for the anionic ring-opening polymerization of glycidyl phenyl ether (GPE). GPE was selected as a model compound for the practical application of various glycidyl-type epoxy resins. MALDI-TOF MS analysis of the resulting polymer clarified the presence of a diphenyl phosphine moiety at initiation, confirming that the anionic polymerization was initiated by nucleophilic attack of the phosphide anion on the epoxide. In addition, compared to various basic catalysts such as phosphines and amines, KPPh2 catalyzed the ring-opening addition of epoxide with o-cresol much more efficiently, demonstrating its potential for application to epoxy–phenol curing systems.journal articl

    Neuronal glutathione depletion elevates the Aβ42/Aβ40 ratio and tau aggregation in Alzheimer's disease mice

    Alzheimer's disease (AD) involves reduced glutathione levels, causing oxidative stress and contributing to neuronal cell death. Our prior research identified diminished glutamate-cysteine ligase catalytic subunit (GCLC) as linked to cell death. However, the effect of GCLC on AD features such as amyloid and tau pathology remained unclear. To address this, we investigated amyloid pathology and tau pathology in mice by combining neuron-specific conditional GCLC knockout mice with amyloid precursor protein (App) knockin (KI) or microtubule-associated protein tau (MAPT) KI mice. Intriguingly, GCLC knockout resulted in an increased Aβ42/40 ratio. Additionally, GCLC deficiency in MAPT KI mice accelerated the oligomerization of tau through intermolecular disulfide bonds. These findings suggest that the decline in glutathione levels, due to aging or AD pathology, may contribute to the progression of AD.journal articl

    【目的】日本発臨床医学論文数は20年前より増えるも世界におけるシェア率や順位は低下した。大学だけでなく一般病院でも積極的に研究が行われれば論文増加に貢献できるかもしれない。そこで学外勤務医の研究を支援するための基礎資料を得る目的でアンケート調査を実施した。【方法】対象は滋賀県内の滋賀医科大学関連医療機関に勤務する医師とした。回答は任意、無記名、インターネット経由で実施した。【結果】1028人の対象者のうち回答は190人、回答率18.4%であった。有効回答180人の学外勤務医のうち83.9%は研究に肯定的であったが実際に研究意欲のある医師は62.2%であった。学外勤務医の研究では96.1%の者が何らかの困りごとを有しており、研究時間の確保困難(78.9%)、臨床が忙しくて研究に集中できない(68.4%)、十分な研究費が獲得できない(48.7%)、指導者や相談する人がいない(46.1%)、統計の知識不十分(44.7%)が多かった。解決には定期的な研究日の確保(79.0%)、大学内に共有スペースの設置(80.3%)、研究費獲得支援(53.9%)、研究のための相談部署の設置(64.5%)、研究ポスト公募情報提供(35.5%)などが必要と考えられた。学外勤務医の研究では81.5%の者が大学のサポートが必要と答えた。【結語】学外勤務医の研究には本調査の結果を参考に今後も大学の支援が必要である。Aims: To support medical doctors who want to do research outside universities or colleges, we conducted a survey. Methods: A questionnaire survey was performed via internet using research electronic data capture (REDCap) by Shiga University of Medical Science. The subjects were medical doctors working outside the universities or colleges in Shiga prefecture, Japan. Results: Of 1028 recommended doctors, 190 answered the questionnaire (participation rate 18.4%). 83.9% of 180 valid respondents thought positive for doing research outside universities or colleges. However, only 62.2% of doctors want to conduct research themselves. 96.1% of 76 doctors who did research outside the universities or colleges had some troubles during the research. The main troubles were difficulties in making time for research (78.9%), focusing on the research because of the business in clinical settings (68.4%), getting research money (48.7%), finding a tutor or consultant for research (46.1%), statistics affairs (44.7%), etc. To solve the troubles, regular research days (78.0%), shared spaces for outside researchers in the campus (80.3%), supports for getting research money (53.9%), consultation department for researchers (64.5%), information for a new post for research (35.5%) were proposed. 81.5% of external doctors who conducted research answered that support from universities or colleges was necessary. Conclusion: Universities or colleges should continue to update their support for medical doctors working off-campus to conduct research, according to the results of the present survey.departmental bulletin pape
