Rola i znaczenie ks. Romana Darowskiego SJ (1935–2017) w badaniach dziejów filozofii polskiej
The aim of the article to determine the characteristic features of research in Polish philosophy conducted by Father Roman Darowski SJ (1935– 2017). The main source material are his publications and their reviews. The literature on the subject is sparse. When dealing with the above task, the natural method to proceed seems to be to analyze the author’s biographical information and publications in order to determine its proper features based on the obtained outline of the author’s work and formulate any relevant comments. The article contains an overview of the most important works of Roman Darowski on Polish philosophy. With minor deviation, it maintains the chronological order. Biographical information indicate the time and circumstances of the creation of some of the texts discussed. The findings confirm the thesis about Roman Darowski’s outstanding achievements in researching the history of philosophy of Polish Jesuits from the 16th to the 20th century. They also prove that he indicated and documented in numerous publications the most important achievements of the Jesuits working in the lands located within the borders of the former Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Moreover, over the years of his professional activity, he developed and successfully applied original methods and research programs, as well as outlined directions for future activities. Informacje biograficzne wskazywały czas i okoliczności powstania niektórych omawianych tekstów.

From the Editors
The current issue of our quarterly is special for at least four organizational and administrative reasons. Firstly, the Ignatianum Academy in Cracow has become a university and as of October 1, 2023, its new name is Ignatianum University in Cracow. Secondly, the Editors, moving with the times, are focusing on the online formula, reducing the circulation of the paper version significantly, and providing widely open access to the journal through the Open Journal Systems platform. Thirdly, by the decision of the Minister of Education and Science announced in the Communiqué of July 17, 2023, regarding the list of academic journals and peer-reviewed materials from international conferences, the journal received 140 points. Finally, fourthly, the list of the parameterized disciplines that the journal covers, namely 1) cultural and religious studies, 2) literary studies, 3) history, and 4) management and quality sciences has been expanded to include other disciplines, such as 5) ethnology and cultural anthropology, 6) philosophy, 7) linguistics, 8) art sciences, 9) Polish studies, 10) political and administrative sciences, 11) social communication and media sciences, and 12) education studies
Educational Potential of the Child’s Out-of-School Experiences in the Opinion of Early Education Teachers
In this article, on the basis of research based on a qualitative strategy, an attempt was made to reconstruct the beliefs of early education teachers about children's out-of-school experiences and the need / possibility of using them in the practice of early childhood education. Teachers' ways of thinking about the features of children's out-of-school experiences and their value in the learning process at school are outlined. Getting to know the conceptualization of the studied area generated in the minds of teachers is very important due to their relationship with school practice, and more specifically with the design by teachers of didactic and educational situations aimed at integrating children's out-of-school experiences with the knowledge and experiences that are the subject of knowledge at school. The experiences gained in the extremely complex and dynamic contemporary space of a child's life are an important source of their knowledge and the basis of learning. The analysis of the collected statements of early childhood education teachers during individual open interviews with them allowed to identify the constitutive features of out-of-school experiences of children. Although teachers are aware of the continuity, multiplicity, transformation as well as the integrity and processuality of children's out-of-school experiences, in their statements they express caution in using them in educational activities at school due to their "imperfection". First of all, the teachers' way of thinking about the role of out-of-school experiences in the education of a child and, consequently, of school practice, requires changes
Foreign Minors in Poland: Legal and Educational Aspects
The author takes up the problem of foreign minors living in Poland, which was first noticed in this country at the beginning of the 1990s. In the Polish literature on the subject, the problem of migration and minors is most often discussed in the context of labour migration of Poles and problems related to the absence of parents in Poland. The problem of foreign minors living in Poland fits into a wider European context. The objective of this article is to understand the legal and demographic aspects of foreign minors as well as the dilemmas and challenges faced by Polish schools in the area of education. To pursue this cognitive objective, the author conducted an analysis of the relevant literature. In order to investigate the topic, two research questions were formulated: a) What is the Polish migration policy towards foreign minors from the legal perspective? b) What is the situation of foreign minors in Polish schools, including legal norms and problems connected with their education and upbringing?
In conclusion, it should be stated that Poland lacks a broad strategy and holistic policy from the government and non-governmental institutions on the integration of foreigners. Nevertheless, Polish law and institutional practices are aimed at safeguarding the interests of foreign minors and respecting children’s rights, their subjectivity, and national and cultural identity. The upbringing of minor foreigners living in Poland poses new challenges for schools and teachers, who should acquire new competences in intercultural education and educational practices aimed at students from other cultures. It should also be noted that there are no specialised centres capable of providing adequate care and assistance to such children, who are often victims of violence, crime and exploitation. Educational authorities and schools tend to incline towards the paradigm of inclusion and acknowledging the ‘Other’ when it comes to children from other cultures, rather than discrimination and opposition to the process of multiculturalism
Improvisation at Rhetoric Workshops as a Way of Teaching Communication Skills
The paper describes an educational project on teaching rhetoric at the university level as part of practical rhetoric workshops. What makes this didactic proposal innovative and unique is the incorporation of improvisation tools in rhetoric classes. The aim of the article is to demonstrate how techniques from contemporary improvisational theatre help students improve their communication skills. The article begins with a brief overview of rhetorical education at Polish universities and a description of basic rhetorical competences related to the creation and analysis of texts. An introduction to improvisational theatre and the specifics of improvisation workshops are presented. Then, a proposal is made to combine these different approaches to the development of communicative competences in a series of workshops. Two exercises are presented, representative of the entire workshop series and devoted to the categories of ethos and narration. The benefits of using this method are discussed by showing the learning outcomes as a specific connection between communicative competences and the mechanisms of understanding rhetorical categories
Adjusting to Remote Learning as a Result of COVID-19: Experiences of Students and Teachers in Jamaica
This qualitative study aims to explore the challenges of remote learning during the COVID-19 pandemic in rural and urban Jamaica, from the perspectives of both students and teachers. Data was collected from 20 teachers and 21 students through virtual and face-to-face interviews, questionnaires, and observations of virtual lessons. While there were more positive impacts of remote learning than negative, challenges such as technical issues, attendance, digital competencies, environmental disturbances, unresponsive students, and physical pain were identified. The problem is that teachers and students are frustrated with the challenges of remote learning and are in need of a solution. The study aims to provide assistance to those facing such difficulties and to contribute to future policy decision-making. The results will be used to produce a report that initiates some level of assistance for students and teachers and informs future policy and decision-makers
Aspirazioni culturali, di classe o scientifiche? Ebrei polacchi all’Università di Padova
Among the students of medicine in Padua from the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, in XVII and XVIII centuries, we can note a certain number of Jews. This article contains a short analysis of so far findings in the area of research on this aspect of Jewish history in the First Republic of Poland. Referring to more and less known facts, the Author paid particular attention to the motivations and aspirations of Jewish scholars who had come to City of Antenor from Polish-Lithuanian land. Following the careers of Jewish medical graduates, we can see, that for most of them having a Padua diploma was not only the way to gain a better status in the Jewish community but also a gateway to overcoming cultural barriers. According to the Author, this was possible due to the fact, that many of the representatives of polish nobility, who were called “Paduans,” had similar experiences of contact with the university environment and the culture of the Venetian Republic.
The essay describes the ceremonial arrangements for the visit to Mantua by Henry of Valois, King of Poland, in August 1574. The King visited the city of Mantua during his journey from Kraków to Lyon (June 18 – September 5, 1574), before his coronation as King of France. On that occasion the Duke of Mantoa, Guglielmo Gonzaga, prepared triumphal arches, sculptures, dances and celebrations for Henry. The king visited the city but also the churchs, S. Andrea and S. Pietro, with its important relics. The essay reconstructs the installations through the reading of the chronicles, and above all, of the correspondence and materials of the time found in the Gonzaga Archive of Mantua.
St. Teresa of Ávila, a mystic, Doctor of the Church, an extraordinary woman of deed and contemplation, and a reformer of the Carmelite order, has exerted an enduring influence on subsequent generations for centuries, reflected not only in theological reflection but also significantly impacted the imagination of artists. The article presents works inspired by the figure of St. Teresa from various fields of art: painting, sculpture, film, photography, and music. A particular focus is placed on the discussion of one of the occasional motets by M.-A. Charpentier: Pour Sainte Thérèse. The conducted analyses provide evidence that, through artistic creation, we are given the opportunity to contemplate the legacy of St. Teresa in new historical contexts, encouraged, among other sources, by the Second Vatican Council in its principle of aggiornamento, aimed at adapting the Church to the transformations of the modern world.Św. Teresy odkrywane w nowych kontekstach historycznych, do czego zachęca m.in. Sobór Watykański II w swojej koncepcji aggiornamento polegającej na dostosowaniu Kościoła do przemian współczesnego świata
