    No full text
The aim of this article is to draw attention to the educational role of Sylwia Wojciechowska’s novels. In the article we describe literary ways of explaining economic processes and concepts to early school-aged children, using semantic and linguistic, as well as didactic and mathematical, analysis. The exploration of Sylwia Wojciechowska’s novels has led to the following conclusions: the literary text explains economic phenomena in an original and attractive way and in a realistic and exemplary manner; thanks to literature, the child recipient learns to make financial decisions (e.g. saving, planning of expenditure); the child assimilates economic information ostensibly reserved for adults and learns to manage his (pocket) budget, including making independent financial decisions.

Genealogia: nauka pomocnicza historii w cyberprzestrzeni

Genealogy, as an auxiliary science of history, has been present in cyberspace for some time now, surpassing other auxiliary historical sciences in terms of online visibility. This distinction is evident even when comparing the number of views on webpages resulting from searches, indicating the popularity of genealogical research. This is a consequence of the popularity of genealogical research, which is predominantly conducted not by scholars but by enthusiasts and amateur genealogists. They independently seek to delve into the history of their families, thereby creating familial genealogical compendia. This research orientation is reflected in various guides recently released in the Polish publishing market, offering readers discussions on both traditional tools employed in genealogical studies and modern techniques associated with technological advancements and the digital presentation of information. Consequently, almost every publication of this nature includes a chapter dedicated to the characterization of online services and databases, providing invaluable assistance in genealogical research. Similarly, various profiles and groups in social media, previously unnoticed by both scholars and popularizers, play a significant role in this domain. Hence, this article aims to provide a synthetic overview of genealogy’s presence in cyberspace, encompassing both macro-level entities (major online services and databases) and microlevel elements (small groups in social media). The article’s objective is to portray genealogy as an auxiliary science of history that has not only found its place in the digital space but has also established itself and continues to evolve. Oferują one czytelnikowi zarówno omówienie tradycyjnych narzędzi wykorzystywanych w badaniach genealogicznych, jak i tych nowoczesnych, związanych z postępem technologicznym i przedstawianiem informacji w formie cyfrowej.

Narodowa Demokracja w wyborach parlamentarnych w 1922 roku w powiatach kieleckim, jędrzejowskim i włoszczowskim

In November 1922, elections to the Sejm and Senate of the first term were held in the reborn Republic of Poland. The main right-wing political option that fought for votes was National Democracy. It entered the elections as part of a broader coalition called the Christian Union of National Unity. This article is an attempt to describe and analyze the participation of this political force in one of the constituencies in the Kielce Voivodeship, which included three counties: Kielce, Jędrzejów and Włoszczowa. Based on archival sources and press publications, I took a closer look at the two basic forms of the National Democrats’ election campaign. The first one was to organize open meetings with voters, and the second one was to influence through the printed publications. In the discussed area, the left-wing party PSL “Wyzwolenie” had a strong influence, appealing to the largest electorate – the peasants. In order to obtain a satisfactory electoral result, National Democracy had to fight primarily for the votes of this social class.W listopadzie 1922 roku w odrodzonej Rzeczpospolitej odbyły się wybory do Sejmu i Senatu I kadencji.

Biotechnologia i mitologia: Czy istnieje dylemat (bio-)etyczny?

Biotechnology and mythology. Is there a (bio-)ethical dilemma? Biotechnology has, in a sense, become a demiurgic art today. It appears as a testimony to an important transformation, which manifests itself in the fact that practices formerly considered merely magical have turned into specialised crafts. Using the contemporary example of the creation of genetic chimeras, we can say that biotechnology has begun to reduce formerly imaginative constructs describing a reality belonging even to the realm of the sacred to the level of reality. Therefore, do not the natural sciences today also play a certain servile role in the process of the new sacralisation of reality? Do not the people who create them aspire to be inhabitants of Olympus? What, then, will be the nature of the ethics of the “people-gods”? Is ethics really out of step with evolving technology, or should it rather never reach – if it retains the criterion of common sense – the ceiling of irrationality represented by contemporary ideologies imbued with neo-Gnostic thinking, such as transhumanism. Perhaps the problem lies not in the inadequacy of ethics, but rather in the over-ideologisation of modern science.

Selected Factors Determining the Adaptability of the Gdańsk School Under Sails Participants and Their Temperamental Correlates

Research objectives and problems: The purpose of the study was to test the impact of a high seas cruise on a traditional sailing ship, during which sail training is implemented, on selected characteristics of the participants. It was thought that significant, positive changes would emerge in terms of decision-making, perception of the future, resistance to change, and proactivity – and that these changes would be related to temperament. Research methods: Using the General Decision Making Style instrument, the Consideration of Future Consequences Scale, the Resistance to Change Scale, and the Proactivity Scale, a questionnaire with repeated measurement was administered to two groups of adolescents taking part in a sea cruise (Group 1: 14-day cruise, 11 boys, 8 girls, M age=17.1; Group 2: 7-day cruise, 13 boys, 7 girls, M age = 21.9). Measurements were taken on the first and last day of the cruise and one month after the cruise. Multilevel modeling was used to examine how temperament moderates changes in decision-making style, consideration of future consequences, resistance to change, and level of proactivity. Structure of the article: The text provides information on sail training, including the historical context, previous research, and impact on youths’ development. The role of temperament in shaping behavior and its relevance to sail training are introduced. The theoretical constructs investigated, and the tools used in the research are described. The research objectives are stated and the sample and procedure are explained. The results are presented and discussed. Limitations and conclusions are indicated. Research findings and their impact: Emotional reactivity significantly moderated the increase in dependent and avoidant decision-making styles and short-term focus, while it decreased cognitive rigidity and proactivity. Activity counteracted growth in avoidant decision-making style, reduced resistance to change, routine seeking, and emotional reactivity to change, lowered short-term focus, and supported growth in proactivity. Resilience counteracted the positive development of proactivity. Conclusions and recommendations: Temperament traits can be mediators of change in terms of the constructs discussed herein. The results allow us to look at sail training from a new perspective, though further research on a regular School Under Sails and aboard other sailing ships is needed to formulate indisputable conclusions

Research objective: The aim of this article is to demonstrate the role and importance of interdisciplinary cooperation in supporting families with school-age children. The research problem and methods: Two research questions were posed in response to the research objective: What is the role of interdisciplinary cooperation for the support of families with school-age children? What are the benefits of interdisciplinary cooperation for the support of families with school-age children? The answers to those questions were obtained through the qualitative method, namely focus group interviews. The process of argumentation: The research process is epistemic and comprises an analysis of the author’s research. It refers to the characteristics of the functioning of families with school-age children and the difficulties and challenges faced by those families. This presentation of the theoretical and research assumptions of interdisciplinary cooperation among family support institutions addresses the need to support families with school-age children. Research results: The analysis of the research data revealed the significant role and benefits of interdisciplinary measures to support families with school-age children. The analysis and synthesis of the literature on the subject and of the author’s research focused on school education and the family support system. Conclusions, innovations, and recommendations: The research presented herein aligns with the recommended development of social policy, including the development for the benefit of the family, for building readiness and openness in the family support services, and for undertaking interdisciplinary cooperation. Another important result of this analysis is recommendations for the effective development of an interdisciplinary model of action in education and family support

    Czy książki beztekstowe są demokratyczne?

This article aims to examine the wordless picturebooks in the light of changes in culturally conditioned communication methods (especially according to children with adult reading companions), as well as changes in the perception of implied readers. The author starts by discussing the ‘Silent Books: from the World to Lampedusa and Back’ project, initiated ten years ago by IBBY, and analyzing the project’s assumptions, which deal with a democratic narrative transmitted by the images. In the next section, the author considers the status of the recipient of a wordless picture book, the significance of adult reading companions, and the phenomena that allow us to wonder whether the book’s message is essentially democratic or hierarchical. The article also examines selected, representative examples of wordless picture books, illustrating the wide range between various creators’ strategies. These examples show many different levels of meaning encoding in visual narratives, including literal representations of reality, abstraction, and encoding of meaning on many different levels. The conclusions highlight that local ways of seeing always impose a particular view of the world, making democratic access to the content of wordless books an unrealistic goal. However, when we consider their reception as a multimodal interpretation based on language, democratic dialogue is possible, but only allowing multiple perspectives to exist simultaneously. Wywód otwiera przywołanie zainicjowanego dziesięć lat temu przez IBBY projektu Silent Books: from the world to Lampedusa and back i krytyczne przyjrzenie się założeniom projektu zakładającym demokratyczność narracji, która przekazywana jest poprzez same obrazy.

The teacher is an informal educational leader because his/her role is determined by the characteristics and effectiveness of actions. As leaders, teachers plan the learning process to unleash students’ potential; they also influence the shaping of peer relationships in the class. The aim of the research was to identify the leadership styles preferred by the surveyed early childhood education teachers and their determinants, as well as to examine the correlation between leadership and class management styles preferred by the surveyed teachers of mainstream and integrated schools. The research results indicate that the surveyed early childhood education teachers strongly preferred the autocratic leadership style in which the teacher – the informal leader focuses primarily on the task and its verification, while the needs of students seem not important. Also, teachers of mainstream schools preferred a persuasive style of leading the class group, while teachers of integrated schools preferred a directing and participating style. What is significant is that the surveyed teachers, regardless of seniority, level of professional advancement and type of school (mainstream and integrated), focused on the task, while the pupils’ needs were not considered in the process. However, it is rather interesting to reflect on the results indicating the fact that teachers who had not completed postgraduate studies, courses, workshops and training, preferred an integrated leadership style that was equally focused on tasks and persons, which was typical of teachers of integrated schools. In both groups of teachers, a statistically significant relationship was found between preferred leadership styles and the styles of managing a class. Z kolei jeśli chodzi o style kierowania zespołem klasowym to badani nauczyciele szkół ogólnodostępnych preferowali perswadujący styl kierowania zespołem a nauczyciele szkół integracyjnych styl kierujący oraz uczestniczący. W obu badanych grupach nauczycieli stwierdzono występowanie istotnej statystycznie zależności pomiędzy preferowanymi stylami przywództwa a stylami kierowania zespołem klasowy

Funkcjonowanie społeczno-emocjonalne dzieci z grupy ryzyka dysleksji a działania profilaktyczne przedszkola i szkoły

This article is an attempt to present the importance of the functioning of children at risk of specific learning difficulties in the socio-emotional area, and the preventive activities undertaken in kindergartens/schools. The first part of the article discusses the difficulties in the socio-emotional area that a child at risk of specific learning difficulties may face already at the level of kindergarten or lower school grades, i. e. with a low level of social competences, internalising behaviours, lower adaptive skills, and withdrawal. Then, the author of the article discusses tasks and roles of the kindergarten and school in improving key competences in the socio-emotional sphere of children, and the possibilities of supporting the proper development in this area of children at preschool and early school age, with particular emphasis on children at risk of dyslexia. This is important because in schools, interventions to improve social-emotional competences are hardly ever undertaken, and the activities of the teaching staff focus mainly on equipping children with the basic knowledge necessary to learn reading and writing. The lack of appropriate training in emotional and social competences causes and deepens difficulties and disorders in reactions in various social situations. That is why, there is a need to take into account appropriate interactions in the educational process. Brak odpowiedniego treningu kompetencji emocjonalno-społecznych powoduje i pogłębia trudności i zaburzenia w reakcjach w różnych sytuacjach społecznych, stąd konieczność uwzględniania odpowiednich oddziaływań w procesie edukacyjno-wychowawczym
