The aim of the research is to assess the functioning of the University of Third Age, operating at the University of Agriculture in Krakow in 2019– 2022, in the context of the use of digital tools in the education process. Based on collected data and conducted analysis, an attempt was made to obtain an answer to the following research questions: What formula was adopted then, in terms of the way of conducting lectures, academic ceremonies and other scientific and cultural events during sanitary restrictions caused by the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic? What was the activity of the listeners using new methods and techniques of education? Were the digital tools, implemented at that time, applied after the abolition of mandatory sanitary restrictions?

Szkolnictwo elementarne w niekanonicznej diecezji pińskiej w 1797 roku

Elementary education administered by Latin-rite Catholic parishes and orders of the Polish rite in the territories of Poland annexed by Russia from 1772 to 1795 persisted without oversight from governmental authorities until the educational system reform implemented in 1803. These educational initiatives functioned in accordance with the preexisting Polish legal framework or adhered to principles rooted in Old Polish traditions, both of which were sanctioned by ecclesiastical authorities and parents sending their children for instruction. The exclusive supervisory entity was the ecclesiastical authorities, tasked with collecting information on the state of the educational system and endeavoring to influence parish priests and religious authorities to establish elementary schools at each parish and monastery. In the autumn of 1797, within the uncanonical diocese of Pinsk, 147 parish or monastic schools were in operation. These schools were organized in 120 localities (72% of the 166 localities with a parish or non-parish monastery). Compared to the state of elementary education in the last years of the independence of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, the number of schools had significantly increased. However, it is crucial to note that the reports from 1797 recorded every form of teaching. During the times of the Commission of National Education, teaching at parishes in addition to orphanages and schools for children from impoverished families, as well as education following old patterns, would be considered private instruction, not formal schooling. Such places of instruction were usually not recorded in school inventories. If educational activists considered only those institutions whose curriculum aligned with the contents of the primer issued by the Commission of National Education (teaching writing and reading, arithmetic, catechism, and moral duties), then such teaching occurred in only 21 schools in the diocese of Pinsk (18%). There is also evidence of the clergy adhering to the principle that elementary schools, inherently intended for noble children, should prepare students for higherorganized educational institutions. This is evident in the operation of 47 institutions teaching Latin (39%). In 140 elementary schools, parish administrators or monastic superiors documented the number of children attending in their reports. In the autumn of 1797, 1,669 children were enrolled in the diocese of Pinsk, with the vast majority being boys. Most schools had several to a dozen students. On average, there were 11.9 students in an elementary school in the diocese of Pinsk at that time, only slightly more than in the years preceding the Third Partition of Poland (at that time, there were an average of 11.2 students per school). Girls were educated in 7 convents run by female orders, where 122 female students received instruction, following the same principles as in pre-partition Poland. The task of educating and instructing in these institutions fell to 148 individuals, comprising 67 priests and monks, as well as 81 secular educationalists. As a rule, clergy members did not receive remuneration, as they taught within the scope of their ministrative duties. Secular teachers, on the other hand, were compensated for their educational services by parish priests, monastic superiors, parents, landowners, or through fees from a Church fund in exchange for serving as organists or cantors. Compensation for teaching could take various forms, including salaries, foundation income, incidental fees, land use (arable land, orchard, and garden), student fees, monetary legacies, and in-kind contributions.

Over the past thirty years or so, a new understanding of the genealogical method has emerged in anglophone philosophy. A growing group of authors, referring to the pioneering book Knowledge and The State of Nature. An Essay in Conceptual Synthesis by Edward Craig (1990), proposes, creatively uses and subjects to methodological reflection the so-called vindicatory genealogy (VG). VG consists in the construction of a quasi-historical, naturalistic and functionalist narrative on the origins and evolution of a social conceptual practice, for example, the use of a certain idea in social life. VG is intended to explain and at the same time recommend („vindicate”) this practice. The purpose of this article is to present the VG method and its preliminary critical analysis. It is structured as follows: in the introduction, I present the basic differences between VG and the existing, default, subversive understanding of the genealogical method; in the first part, I analyze the most important assumptions of VG, namely historicism, methodological naturalism and functionalism; in the second part, I reconstruct – for illustration – the application of VG to explain and justify the positive evaluation and recognition as virtues of various forms of truthfulness (M. Fricker, B. Williams); in the third part, I discuss three basic objections to VG: the charge of fiction, the charge of genetic fallacy and the charge of instrumentalism. As far as I know, this issue has not yet received a study in the Polish academic literature.W ciągu około trzydziestu ostatnich lat w filozofii anglojęzycznej pojawiło się nowe rozumienie metody genealogicznej. Rosnąca grupa autorów, odwołująca się do pionierskiej książki Knowledge and The State of Nature. An Essay in Conceptual Synthesis Edwarda Craiga (1990), proponuje, twórczo wykorzystuje i poddaje refleksji metodologicznej tak zwaną genealogię uzasadniającą (GU). Ma on następującą strukturę: we wstępie przedstawiam podstawowe różnice pomiędzy GU i dotychczasowym, domyślnym, subwersywnym rozumieniem metody genealogicznej; w pierwszej części analizuję najważniejsze założenia GU, czyli historycyzm, naturalizm metodologiczny i funkcjonalizm; w drugiej części rekonstruuję – dla ilustracji – zastosowanie GU w wyjaśnianiu i uzasadnianiu pozytywnej oceny i traktowania jako cnót różnych form wierności prawdzie (M. Fricker, B. Williams); w trzeciej części omawiam trzy podstawowe zarzuty wobec GU: zarzut fikcji, zarzut błędu genetycznego i zarzut instrumentalizmu.

The Replacement of the Mentor/Educator Archetype With the Pseudo-Father Figure and in the Video Game Narrative: La sustitución del arquetipo del mentor/educador por la figura seudopaterna en la narrativa del videojuego

    No full text
Research objectives (aims) and problem(s): This manuscript investigates the reproduction of the classic figure of the mentor/educator and how, in recent times, it has transformed into the archetype of the circumstantial father in video games. Research methods and structure of the article: Through the discourse analysis of the narrative of four popular video games: God of War, The Last of Us, Bioshock Infinite and The Walking Dead, we propose: identify the plot conflicts derived from the fact that the character is a father circumstantial and discern the identifying features of this pseudo-father figure from the structural patterns of the monomyth or hero's journey and relate its characteristics with those of the classic figure of the mentor/educator. Brief description of the context of the problem: Do video games show educational models in their stories? The characters in the audiovisual narrative are a representation of the particular and universal dimension of the environment and the social context of their time. This conception of multicultural humanity allows us to understand the potential of the narrative elements that are developed in different stories and stories, such as archetypes or tropes. In the video game industry in particular, the advances in animation techniques and the community's interest in social and human issues have meant greater depth in the construction of characters and the inclusion of figures away from conventional patterns. Research findings and their impact on the development of educational sciences: The findings allow us to conclude that there is a trend towards replacing the classic archetype of the mentor with the figure of the circumstantial father. Conclusions and/or recommendations: This new character moves away from the classic pattern of Joseph Campbell's hero's journey and is more similar to the characteristics of contemporary antiheroic characters. However, this new archetype bases its teaching on resilience and sacrifice, a relevant fact as it is a figure designed to educate and instill values in young people.

The Teacher Spiritual Development in the Reference to the Metaphorical Understanding of “Education as a Spiritual Journey” by Parker J. Palmer

    Get PDF
Objective of the article: The aim of the article is to elicit and show the correlation between a spiritual teacher’s development and education seen as a spiritual journey in a pedagogical, personalistic perspective. The research question is as follows: How does the relationship between the teacher’s spiritual development and Palmer’s perception of education in spiritual perception look? Research method: To answer the research question, the method of hermeneutic content analysis seems to be appropriate, as it provides a deeper meaning of education rooted in spirituality for the teacher seen as a unity achieved in the integrative process of formation. A short description of the context of the presented issue: The contents of the article are rooted in the personalistic perspective and cover the reference to spirituality, to some extent corresponding with human spiritual development and teacher spiritual development, tightly connected with Parker J. Palmer’s concept of education perceived in the spiritual dimension. Research findings: The article elicits the meaning of spirituality in the quality of teacher development and the need to provide a space for spirituality in education, in the care of future generations. The research emphasizes that students achieving a spiritual identity on a transpersonal level can become fruitful for contemporary civilization, and further research in this light demands engagement of the broader scientific community, working in the personalistic paradigm. Conclusions and recommendations: Education lacking the space for spirituality determined by higher values does not foster the building of the wholeness of a person and can cause many problems with forming one’s identity, the core of which is a spiritual identity on the autonomous, transpersonal level. The conclusion is that the more “technical/pragmatic” approaches to education are propagated, the more problems in the functioning of future generations can appear. That is why the core curriculum in education needs changing, which should be followed by changes in teacher higher education and training

Religious Education of the Child as Part of Parental Duties – Comparative Legal Analysis of National Reports Submitted to the Commission on European Family Law

    Get PDF
Research objectives and problems: This article presents a comparative analysis of legal regulations in 21 European countries regarding parents’ rights and obligations towards their children’s religious education and upbringing. The author seeks answers to the following questions: Does religious upbringing and education of the child fall under parental rights and duties? What is the legal basis for this right and duty? Does a child have the right to choose his or her religion? Research methods: The author carries out legal analysis of reports from 21 countries concerning parental responsibility, submitted to the Commission on European Family Law. Structure of the article: By analyzing the provisions in the internal legislation of 21 European countries, based on reports submitted to the Commission on European Family Law, the author presents the legal solutions regulating issues of children’s religious upbringing. Research findings and their impact on the development of educational sciences: The analysis indicates that in each of the 21 legal systems examined, religious upbringing of the child is considered an element of parental responsibility. The most common legal sources for parental rights to a child’s religious upbringing are constitutions, civil codes, and legal acts on family/children’s rights, education, and freedom of religion. National legislation typically grants parents the exclusive right to decide on their child’s religious upbringing for younger children. As the child matures, their right to self-determination in religious matters increases. The study shows that, despite national cultural and ideological differences, European countries have more in common than divides them regarding religious education of children within the context of parental responsibility. This study expands our understanding of the shared European belief among legislators about the appropriateness of entrusting such an important task as the religious upbringing of a child to the child’s parents. Conclusions and/ or recommendations: The presented considerations offer a general overview of the regulations in individual countries and serve as an introduction to a more in-depth analysis of the issue of religious upbringing of the child. Further research is needed to examine other aspects of religious upbringing, such as religious education in schools and possible legal remedies in case of conflicts between parents, parents and children, or families and the state

Prawa dziecka – prawa człowieka w najnowszej literaturze dla dzieci - wybór i wskazania dla edukacji

The article offers the analysis of selected books addressed to children, in which the subject of children's rights in reference to the Convention on the Rights of the Child as well as human rights in relation to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights is present. Reaching for the content analysis method used in qualitative research methodology, I analyze and interpret the content of the latest books (second decade of the 21st century), both by Polish and foreign-language writers. I attempt to answer the questions: whether and how the analyzed books can help children understand and consciously exercise their rights? what human rights are emphasized in the selected books?; to what extent are the analyzed books open to discussions with the reader? The text is composed of two parts. In the first one, I present the existing state of knowledge in the social sciences and humanities about the lack of childhood categories throughout history and how the process of forming the child's subjectivity took place, giving rise to the recording of his rights. In the second part of the text, I present conclusions from content analyzes of selected books addressed to children. I point to books in which the child is treated subjectively - as a citizen "here and now”. Literature that can help educators, parents and people who care about protecting the child's individuality in planning care and educational work.

Transformacje w (egzystencjalnej) niezmienności: analiza porównawcza Ariel Mariny Carr i Riders to the Sea Johna Millingtona Synge’a

    Get PDF
This article is a comparative analysis of Marina Carr’s Ariel (2002) and John Millington Synge’s Riders to the Sea. The main research context comes from common critical treatments of Carr’s oeuvre within the scope of Synge’s influences. The plays discussed in this essay have not been subject to comparative studies before (to the best of the author’s knowledge). The main argument consists in examining the loci of invariance and their transformations with reference to themes, characters’ roles, and their relationships, which will be compared in terms of notions of necessity, generational suffering, reliance on the worldly, and death in the unknown realm, partly treated within existentialism.Celem artykułu jest dokonanie analizy sztuki Ariel Mariny Carr i Riders to the Sea Johna Millingtona Synge’a. Zostaną one częściowo potraktowane w swoim ogólnym odniesieniu do egzystencjalizmu
