In the second half of the 19th century and the early 20th century, food adulteration was a widespread phenomenon, including in the Polish territories. Although condemned and harmful, it was a part of everyday life and reflected the economic conditions, level of knowledge, availability of raw materials, and social relations of the time. Driven by the desire for profit, adulterators tampered with the composition of food products, often endangering consumers health. The article analyzes examples from daily newspapers and specialist publications that exposed and criticized the methods used to adulterate food. Virtually all types of food were subject to adulteration—from milk, butter, and tea to spices, sweets, and beverages. The examples presented in the article represent only a fragment of this widespread practice but good illustrate the ingenuity and ruthlessness of the adulterators, who employed a wide array of surprising ingredients.W drugiej połowie XIX i na początku XX w. fałszowanie żywności było zjawiskiem powszechnym również na ziemiach polskich.

The aim of the article is to show the conditions – located in the field of education – significant for the well-being of a child at an earlier school age. The subject of the analysis includes selected descriptions of the category of well-being, dilemmas of caring for well-being at school, and methods of promoting well-being in the culture of the school. The research issues undertaken are expressed in the questions: 1) What doubts arise when talking about the well-being of a child? What does caring for a child’s mental well-being in education mean for particular people? The considerations concern three areas. The first one presents a description of the category of well-being, and cites the results of research on the importance of school for the sense of well-being of children. The description of the school as a place supporting well-being is the subject of analyses in the second part of the text. Recognising the need to move away from ignoring the voice of children in supporting well-being, the assumptions of promoting the well-being of all school communities are presented. The third part is a description of the culture of the school as a place supporting the sense of well-being. The final part includes conclusions. Although children have different perceptions of what is important for well-being, their voices are often overlooked in discussions about well-being. In the context of student well-being, a participatory approach that supports the well-being of all school communities has been found to be valuable.

The reflection undertaken in this article focuses on the issues of education through service and creative activity. The main objective is to determine to what extent education through service, incorporated in the process of students’ education, is a factor that dynamises a person’s creative activity, in the light of literature and the author’s own empirical research. In reporting on the stated aim, two research problems are formulated: How does education through service constitute a dynamising factor for a person’s creative activity? How, according to the students, does education through service affect their creative activity? In the first part of the article, a theoretical analysis of the structure of the educational and didactic strategy: education through service, was carried out in the context of factors that foster and motivate creative activity. In the second part, a qualitative analysis was made, using the hermeneutic method, of the statements of the students who participated in the project implemented within the educational strategy discussed. The conclusions formulated provide a basis for undertaking further empirical analyses in this area, and also enable the identification of education through service as an educational strategy that triggers and reinforces the need for creative activity in students – future teachers. W pierwszej części artykułu przeprowadzono teoretyczną analizę struktury strategii wychowawczo- dydaktycznej: edukacji przez służbę, w kontekście czynników sprzyjających i motywujących do podejmowania aktywności twórczej.

The concept of 4Cs competences as a challenge for contemporary education of young children The sustainable future proposed by the 2030 Agenda requires reorienting education from subject-based teaching to supporting cross-curricular competences development involved in solving complex, interdisciplinary problems. These competences can be called differently in pedagogical literature: transversal competences or competencies of the 21st century (skills that are typically considered as not specifically related to a particular job, task, academic discipline or area of knowledge and that can be used in a wide variety of situations and work settings); STEAM competences, 4C competences (from English: communication, collaboration, critical thinking, creativity), although the latter are also developed in 5C (character) or 6C (citizenship). Although the acronym does not work well when translated into Polish, it perfectly reflects the essence of the problem - today's children need different knowledge and skills than their ancestors. The best that a modern school can to a child is the ability to learn independently, critically evaluate and select available information, creative problem solving, cooperation and communication with others, emotional and cognitive self-regulation. Developing such meta-competences is possible from the earliest childhood, and according to many researchers, it is also consistent with the specificity of a young child's learning - learning through discovering and inquiring, multi-sensorial experiencing of the world, asking questions, doing and testing hypotheses, formulating conclusions. Is such a reorientation of education from textbooks and worksheets towards the holistic development of the child possible in the Polish educational system, and to what extent (or rather in what way)?Zrównoważona przyszłość proponowana przez Agendę 2030 wymaga przekształcenia edukacji z nauczania przedmiotowego na wspieranie rozwoju kompetencji międzyprzedmiotowych, które są niezbędne do rozwiązywania złożonych, interdyscyplinarnych problemów.

    Get PDF
One of the most prominent trends in 21st-century tourism is the growing interest of travelers in contemporary architecture, with modern buildings increasingly becoming distinctive tourist attractions. Landmarks such as the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao and the Burj Khalifa in Dubai are icons of these cities and essential stops for tourists. The term architourism has emerged in the academic discourse to describe travels motivated by a desire to experience modern architecture, and it is generally regarded as a form of cultural tourism. This paper aims to present a culturally significant phenomenon: the relationship between contemporary architecture and tourism. It presents examples of buildings from both Poland and around the world that have gained notable popularity among tourists. Based on these examples, the paper identifies key attributes of contemporary architecture that enhance its appeal to mass tourism, such as the renown of the architect, the uniqueness of the design, the scale of the structure, and the interplay between architectural form and function. The final section of the paper considers whether the growing popularity of contemporary architecture might diminish the prominence of historical monuments as leading tourist attractions, or whether modern structures will instead complement the traditional offerings of historic cities such as Krakow.Wśród trendów turystyki XXI w. wyróżnić można zwiększone zainteresowanie podróżujących współczesnymi budowlami, które często stają się rozpoznawalnymi atrakcjami turystycznymi. Muzeum Guggenheima w Bilbao czy Burj Khalifa w Dubaju funkcjonują jako główne symbole tych miast i turystyczne must see.

    Get PDF
In this article, the concepts of intertextuality and nomadism – drawn from the postmodern terminological-methodological framework of semiotics as the study of meaning bearers and the variability of meanings in the human world – are used to explain the mechanisms of creating and disseminating works of art and their impact on the individual and society. The article points out both the ambiguity and the usefulness of the terms ‘text’ and ‘intertextuality’, which refer to the products of verbal communication and value-oriented human activities. Cultural texts therefore encompass paintings, photographs, films, sculptures, musical works, architecture, and all forms of popular culture. Intertextuality operates within the domain of intersubjective dialogism as an aspect of human communication where texts relate to one another. As modifications of earlier texts, they constantly interact through allusions and references – directly or indirectly, formally or substantively. Forming networks of multidimensional intertextual relations, texts are subject to endless reinterpretations. Viewing art through the lens of dynamic intertextual relationships is supported by the theory of nomadism, which illustrates the analogy between personal development and social transformations across many spheres of life, including art. Nomadism characterizes the individual who, having the capacity of affecting and being affected, transcends the rules and norms in the use of signs and symbols. It defines the semiotic subject in its becoming determined by conditions and forms of existence, marked by opposing values and conceptual ambiguities, particularly in an era of political, economic, and social change, the increasing access to information technologies, and rising mobility.W niniejszym artykule pojęcia intertekstualności i nomadyczności, należące do postmodernistycznego warsztatu terminologiczno-metodologicznego semiotyki, które obejmują nośniki znaczeń i transformacje znaczeniowe w symbolicznym świecie człowieka, służą wyjaśnianiu mechanizmów tworzenia i rozpowszechniania dzieł sztuki oraz ich oddziaływania na jednostkę i społeczeństwo. Intertekstualność natomiast występuje w domenie intersubiektywnej dialogowości pośród aspektów komunikacji międzyludzkiej, w której to teksty nawiązują do innych tekstów.

Nicolai Hartmann and the Marburg School

    Get PDF
The paper deals with the Marburg Neo-Kantian’s context of Nicolai Hartmann’s (1882-1950) thought to show it under new light. The novelty of his view consists in claiming that a deeper knowledge of relationships and developments within the philosophical theories of the Marburg Neo-Kantian school (Hermann Cohen and Paul Natorp) leads to the recognition that Hartmann’s project of a new ontology should no longer be seen as a complete departure from Marburg Neo-Kantianism but rather as a project born out of a criticism and reformulation of their thoughts

Nicolai Hartmann’s Interpretation of Hegel’s Dialectics

    Get PDF
This paper addresses Nicolai Hartmann’s interpretation of Hegel’s dialectics with special focus on what Hartmann calls “real dialectics,” and it is divided into three parts. The first is a concise presentation of Hartmann’s interpretation of Hegel in its historical context and its main historiographical goals, emphasising its independence compared to some contemporary readings, e.g. Wilhelm Dilthey and the Neo-Hegelianism. The second is a focus on Hartmann’s interpretation of the relationship between Aristotle and Hegel, a fundamental step towards grasping Hartmann’s understanding of Hegel’s “real dialectics.” Here in particular, it is the meaning of “concept” and the close intellectual proximity between Aristotelian aporetics and Hegelian “real dialectics” that relates the two philosophers. The third is an account of what Hartmann considers to be Hegel’s “real dialectics,” the relationship between the latter and Hegel’s Erfahrung are examined, also to bring out in conclusion all those aspects of the Hegelian “dialectics” that Hartmann considers still relevant

Hartmann versus Heidegger: A Re‑Evaluation of the Gnoseological Relation

The intention of this paper is to question Heidegger’s criticism of Hart mann’s approach to the gnoseological relation and to show that his interpretation of what the Baltic‑German philosopher had in mind in his first major work, Grundzüge einer Metaphysik der Erkenntnis, was biased. I start by presenting the context of the Heidegger‑Hartmann debate on the subject‑object relation. Secondly, I briefly reconstruct Heidegger’s approach to the gnoseological relation and explain why, according to him, Hartmann’s stance is subject to his criticism of the subject‑object relation. I then present the main features of Hartmann’s conception of the gnoseological relation and his peculiar idea of representation as projection as well as his gnoseological stance of human subjects as eccentric beings. Finally, I state a criticism of some of the main features of Heidegger’s conception of Dasein, and I argue that Hartmann’s idea of the subject‑object relation is more accurate in describing and apprehending our reference to the world. The intention of this paper is to question Heidegger’s criticism of Hart mann’s approach to the gnoseological relation and to show that his interpretation of what the Baltic‑German philosopher had in mind in his first major work, Grundzüge einer Metaphysik der Erkenntnis, was biased.
