This research analyses the relationship between psychological ownership and sustainability of urban primary consumer cooperatives operating in Ethiopia. In Ethiopia the concept of psychological ownership is not well studied especially on cooperatives. This study attempts to fill the gap by analyzing the relationship between member psychological ownership and sustainability of urban primary consumer cooperatives. Member psychological ownership was measured using member accountability, self-efficacy, sense of place/belongingness, self-identity and territoriality. Current study employed a survey research design to investigate the hypothesized relationships. Data were collected from 384 randomly selected members of urban primary consumer cooperatives in Bahir Dar, Adama, and Addis Ababa, representing a target population of 118,538 members across 275 cooperatives. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) served as the primary data analysis technique. SEM allowed for the assessment of the direct relationships between member psychological ownership – measured through dimensions of accountability, self-efficacy, sense of place/belongingness, self-identity, and territoriality – and the sustainability of these cooperatives. Results revealed positive significant relationship between member psychological ownership and sustainability of urban primary consumer cooperatives. These findings highlight the practical importance of fostering a strong sense of ownership among members. Key words: Consumer cooperative; psychological ownership; accountability; self-efficacy; sense of place/belongingness; self-identity; territoriality; SEM DOI: 10.7176/JMCR/94-03 Publication date: January 30th 202

Coconut, often called the "tree of life," offers immense economic and health benefits, yet its cultivation in Nigeria is hindered by limited production. A soil suitability assessment was conducted at Udo, Ovia Southwest Local Government Area of Edo State, Nigeria, to evaluate the potential for coconut cultivation and provide necessary recommendations. The study analyzed soil physical and chemical properties, climatic conditions, and site suitability, revealing that the soils are marginally suitable due to high acidity and low fertility. Amendments such as lime application, fertilization with N:P:K:Mg 12:12:17:2, and proper planting techniques are recommended to enhance soil conditions. The results suggest that with appropriate soil management practices, the Udo soils can support successful coconut cultivation. The Role of Entrepreneurial Ecosystems in Supporting Startups in Benin City, Edo State

This study investigates the role of entrepreneurial ecosystems in supporting startups to ensure their survival and growth. Using a sample of 150 startups across various business types in Benin City, purposively selected, and a structured questionnaire as the research instrument, the findings reveal that access to finance, supportive government policies, education, and business support services are key factors influencing entrepreneurship development. Additionally, challenges such as resource gaps, regulatory barriers, and cultural constraints hinder startup growth. The study employed standard multiple regression analysis to evaluate the predictive capabilities of the predictor variables concerning the criterion variable. The hypotheses were tested with a p-value derived from the regression results on SPSS version 23.  According to the decision rule, null hypotheses (H₀) are not rejected if the p-value is greater than or equal to 0.05, while they are rejected if the p-value is less than 0.05. The four null hypotheses tested were rejected, indicating that the elements of the ecosystem significantly affect the growth and sustainability of startups in Benin City. The study recommends enhancing the existing ecosystem in the Benin City metropolis to provide more opportunities for startups to access needed facilities, collaborate, grow, and contribute to the region's overall economic development. The Application of Conditional Value-at-Risk in Coal Purchasing Decision Considering Price and Demand Uncertainty

Coal procurement is the core business part of coal trading enterprises. The effectiveness of the decisions directly affects their profitability. With the adjustment of China's energy structure, coal market faces the supply-demand imbalance and great uncertainty, which brings great challenge to the procurement decision of coal trading enterprises. How to make good purchasing decisions in a fluctuating market environment has become the most important task for coal trading enterprises. In this paper, with the goal of improving the profit of coal trading enterprises, we establish a coal procurement decision model in an environment where the contract market and spot market coexist by considering the risk preference of procurement decision makers and the uncertainty of coal demand and price in the process of procurement. Furthermore, Conditional Value-at-Risk (CVaR) is introduced to quantify the risk return and optimize the coal procurement decision. Case study is conducted to verify the effectiveness of the algorithm. The results show that the proposed coal procurement decision method considering demand and price uncertainty proposed in this paper is more practical, scientific and reasonable than the traditional and empirical method, which can effectively improve the enterprise's profitability and provide theoretical guidance for the optimization of coal procurement decision-making under market volatility. A comparison of consumption values and intentions to purchase environmentally friendly products across generations: the moderating role of individual priorities

Faced with the climate emergency and increasing pressure on natural resources, sustainable consumption has become a central issue for governments, businesses, and citizens. Understanding the determinants of responsible purchasing behavior is therefore essential to encourage more sustainable consumption patterns. Among these determinants, generational differences and individual priorities are attracting growing interest in the academic literature. The aim of this study is to compare responsible consumption values and intentions to purchase environmentally friendly products between different generations (Z, Y, X and baby-boomers), while examining the moderating role of individual priorities. The data was collected using a face-to-face questionnaire administered to 203 respondents. The results show that generation Z has the highest levels of both responsible consumption values and intentions to purchase environmentally friendly products, followed by generation Y. However, no significant differences were observed between generation X and baby-boomers. Furthermore, the results reveal that individual priorities (environmental vs. economic) significantly moderate the relationship between generation type and responsible consumption values and purchase intentions, but only for generations Z and Y compared with baby-boomers. Key words: Generational cohort, sustainability, consumption values, purchases intention, individual priorities. DOI: 10.7176/EJBM/17-6-01 Publication date: July 30th 202

The Effect of Project Planning Practices on Sustainability of Drilled Community Water Point Projects in Lower Eastern Kenya

The sustainable development goal number 6 provides a global effort for universal access to clean, equitable and affordable drinking water by the year 2030. There is uneven distribution of the water sources. In arid and semi-arid lands, people depend on rivers, streams, dams, springs and wells and boreholes to get water for both domestic and livestock use. Access to adequate and safe water for domestic use remains a perennial problem in Lower Eastern Kenya. To remedy the situation national government, county governments and NGOs resorted to drilling community water points. However, the drilling community water points become unsustainable in the long run by water drying up, stalling and even collapsing of the projects after the start. This study therefore sought to determine the effect of project planning practices on sustainability of drilled community water-point projects in Lower Eastern Kenya. The study employed a concurrent triangulation research design. The scope of the study was limited to drilled community water-point projects in the lower Eastern Kenya. The unit of observation was one water executive committee chairperson manning the drilled community water projects in the selected regions. Thus, the target population were 1,308 water executive committee chairpersons. The sample size as obtained using Yamane formula was 306 water executive committee chairpersons who were selected through stratified random sampling. Primary data was used in the study with the questionnaire as the main data collection instrument. The study also involved interviews on the three county chief officers in the departments of water and sanitation in the three counties. Data was analyzed using SPSS Version 26. Data analyses involved descriptive and inferential statistics. The descriptive statistics comprised means and standard deviation while inferential statistics comprised Pearson correlation analysis and simple regression model. Test of hypothesis was done at 95% confidence interval. From the results, project planning practices had positive and statistically significant relations with the sustainability of drilled water point projects. The study concluded that project planning practices are significant determinants of the sustainability of drilled community water point projects in the counties of Kitui, Machakos and Makueni. The study recommended that the project managers ought to incorporate project planning practices in any drilled community water point project they are undertaking. The practices enhance the success rate in project implementation. The project further recommended that the counties under study ought to formulate policies that ensures the strict adherence to the stipulated project planning practices. Key Words: Project Planning Practices, Sustainability and Drilled Community Water-Point Projects. DOI: 10.7176/EJBM/17-6-10 Publication date: July 30th 2025
