Exploring Kuwaiti School Teachers’ Challenges in the Post-COVID-19 Era

This study explores the evolving difficulties faced by educators in the transition from traditional to digital teaching methods during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. Drawing on Bronfenbrenner’s ecological systems theory, the study examines how various levels of influence—including direct classroom interactions, institutional policies, and broader societal factors—have impacted teachers' ability to adapt to hybrid and online teaching models. The research highlights significant challenges, such as a lack of digital literacy, inadequate training, and limited support systems, which have exacerbated teachers' workloads and affected their well-being. Through a mixed-method approach combining secondary literature and primary data collected via questionnaires, the study uncovers distinct patterns of teacher adaptation and stress. It emphasizes the need for ongoing professional development, mental health support, and the integration of both digital and traditional pedagogical methods. Moreover, the findings reveal disparities in resources and infrastructure, particularly for teachers in underfunded schools, further stressing the necessity for educational reforms that address systemic issues. The research offers valuable insights into how Kuwaiti schools can better support teachers in navigating the post-pandemic educational landscape. Exploring the Impact of Service Learning amongst Undergraduate Students in Cameroon: The Case of the CUIB Volunteer Network Program

Service learning is one of the most widely used approaches to university-community engagement. It is a pedagogy that integrates community service with academic study to enhance learning while strengthening local communities. While the impact of service learning has been widely researched on across various higher education contexts, the concept is relatively new to the educational system of Cameroon. The Catholic University Institute of Buea (CUIB) is one of the few higher education institutions in Cameroon to have integrated service learning within the university curriculum with its Volunteer Network Program (VNP). Using a qualitative approach, this study thereby aims to explore undergraduate students’ perception on the impact of CUIB-VNP. It seeks to examine how students’ experiences with the service learning program influence their skills development, personal growth, academics and sense of civic responsibility, and also identify the major challenges they face. Through data gathered from focus group discussions and online written responses, the study found that participating in CUIB-VNP has profound impact on students’ personal growth, the development of soft skills and a sense of civic responsibility with limited impact on students’ academics. It also identified challenges such as poor balance between academic workload and service activities, lack of program orientation, lack of reflective practice, logistics and administrative challenges. The study concludes that service learning has great potential in improving learning in higher education in Cameroon and recommends ways through which service learning programs could be improved. This study aims to investigate secondary school students' perceptions of dimension-related concepts and mathematical language skills. The sample of the study consists of students attending seventh and eighth grade of a middle school in terms of socio-economic and socio-cultural conditions in Kocasinan district of Kayseri.  In the study, which utilizes a mixed-method approach, data were collected using tests developed by the researcher with expert opinion support to measure students' mathematical language skills in the dimension domain and to determine their perceptions of related concepts. The data were collected and statistically analyzed for evaluation. According to the findings, there is a moderate, positive, and significant relationship between middle school students' perceptions of concepts related to dimension and their total scores on the mathematical language skills tests. Mathematical language skill scores were found to be close to the mean, and there was no statistically significant difference in mathematical language skill scores based on gender and grade level. Students had difficulty in making sense of the dimension and defining with words geometric concepts related to the subject, and generally resorted to explanation with figures. However, it was observed that their knowledge level was not sufficient to express the concepts. Keywords: concept, dimension, mathematical language skills, secondary school student. Full text link
This study highlights the importance of reading skills and personal hygiene awareness for girls at an early age based on projects conducted in USA and India. The paper discusses the emotional, social, and economic impact of reading skills and health awareness on young girls. The study demonstrates that although reading skills and hygiene awareness are separate topics, they are very inter-related and have a powerful combined impact on building a strong foundation for healthy and economically independent women and subsequently families. Based on my projects and research, I believe that initiatives to build skills and awareness in girls can be more successful if local organizations partner with elementary schools and libraries. A lot of difference can be made at the local grass root level, where funds and time are spent in close contact with students and teachers, understanding specific needs of each student. I hope that learnings from this study will help us generate better and practical ways of brining literacy and hygiene awareness to young girls around the world. Full text link
In recent years, many higher education universities have actively explored and practiced to address the issue of the disconnection between party building and professional business development. Taking the Party Committee of the School of Music and Dance at Guizhou education university as an example, this paper strengthens the organic integration of party building and business teaching under the framework of the "Four New" model. Firstly, through cooperation with external art groups and cultural institutions, the education mechanism is deepened and the practical platform is expanded. Secondly, innovative concepts are applied to integrate curriculum ideology with professional teaching, constructing a new teaching model. Thirdly, the combination of party building work and student behavior cultivation is emphasized, promoting the interaction between the first and second classrooms through curriculum ideology, and facilitating the comprehensive development of students. Finally, regular organization of artistic practical activities enhances communication and interaction between teachers and students. The aim is to allow party building work to take root and flourish in artistic education through extensive practice, continuously enhancing the goal-orientation and practical effectiveness of party building work in higher education institutions. Public Debt, Infrastructure and Economic Growth in Nigeria

This study examines the effect of public debt and infrastructure on economic growth in Nigeria between 1981 to 2022. Secondary data were sourced from the Central Bank of Nigeria Statistical bulletin, Debt Management Office and the World Bank. The primary objective is to analyze the effects of public debt on Nigeria's real GDP growth rate and to evaluate the significance of infrastructure in driving economic growth. The unit root tests- the Augmented Dickey-Fuller (ADF) and Phillips-Perron (PP) tests were employed to assess the stationarity of the variables while the cointegration tests were conducted to explore long-term relationships among the variables. The findings reveal that external debt has a significant negative impact on Nigeria's economic growth, while internal debt shows no significant effect. Infrastructure demonstrates a significant positive impact on economic growth. The study concludes that prudent external debt management and strategic infrastructure are crucial for fostering sustainable economic growth in Nigeria. Based on these findings, several recommendations are proposed; Policymakers should prioritize borrowing from concessional sources to minimize the external debt burden, place embargo on new loans and implement stringent debt management policies. Developing a robust domestic debt market through regulatory enhancements and private sector incentives can provide a stable funding source for developmental projects. Additionally, strategic investments in critical infrastructure sectors, supported by public-private partnerships (PPPs), can address bottlenecks and encourage foreign direct investments. Abortion Under Sharia Law: The Need for The Extension and Expansion of Women’s Right to Privacy in Saudi Arabia

The US Supreme Court decision in Dobbs v Jackson has led commentators to again interrogate whether the right to an abortion is implicated as part of the spectrum of rights to privacy. The abortion question remains controversial and unsettled across the world, including in Islamic regions. In this article, I examine whether the right to an abortion can be situated within the panoply of privacy rights granted to an individual under Sharia and Saudi law. Saudi law and practice serves as an example of how a modern Muslim majority country views abortion and its place within the individual’s fundamental rights (enumerated or unenumerated). I will attempt to answer the following questions. What is the status of a fetus in Sharia? What is the Sharia's position on abortion? Is there a possibility of extending a woman's right to privacy under the Sharia to accommodate her right to have an abortion? Under what circumstances would she lose her right to a choice? Finally, to what extent does Saudi law and practice reflect the Sharia’s position on the subject? Keywords: abortion, privacy, reproductive rights fundamental Rights, Sharia, Saudi law. The Anxiety and Adjustment Levels of Inmates in Romblon

Evaluating the anxiety levels and adjustment of inmates in jails is a crucial aspect of understanding the experiences and challenges faced by this vulnerable population (Atasheneh & Izadi, 2012). Inmates often encounter a range of stressors, such as social isolation, lack of autonomy, and exposure to violence, which can contribute to the development of anxiety disorders (Wedgeworth, 2016). Addressing the mental health needs of incarcerated individuals is essential, as high levels of anxiety can negatively impact their overall well-being, rehabilitation, and successful reintegration into society upon release (Zaid, 2020).  This study explored the relationship existing between anxiety and adjustment levels of inmates in Odiongan District Jail. The results are used toward the development of an intervention program that would help inmates lessen their anxiety levels and increase their adjustment inside prison. A mixed method of research was used which involved quantitative and qualitative analysis. Standardized tests were used to obtain quantitative data while in-depth interviews were conducted among 168 inmates from Odiongan District Jail, Romblon. The results showed that there is no significant relationship between the anxiety and adjustment levels of inmates. Also, there is no significant difference in the anxiety levels of inmates according to their profile variables. However, it was found that inmates who committed crimes against chastity have a higher level of adjustment. From this, a proposal for a mental health intervention program was created to improve inmates’ health adjustment and to lessen their anxiety inside prison. Tourism in the Major Destinations of North Shewa Zone: Challenges, Stakeholders, and Collaborations

The availability of tourism resources and stakeholder collaboration forms the foundational basis for the existence and development of the tourism industry. The North Shewa Zone boasts an array of remarkable tourism resources, which can be categorized as religious, natural, historical, or a combination thereof. Due to the scarcity of tourism studies conducted in the zone, there is a lack of comprehensive knowledge to identify the factors impeding the industry’s development. This paper aims to investigate the challenges facing tourism development in the North Shewa Zone and to examine the roles and collaborations of various tourism sector stakeholders. Employing a case study qualitative research approach, the study utilized a purposive sampling technique to select respondents. Data was collected through key informant interviews, observation, and focus group discussions. Participants included employees from zonal and district culture and tourism offices, tour guide associations, tourist destination administrations, and other relevant stakeholders, totaling 88 individuals selected based on their experience, profession, and relevance to the study's topic. Thematic analysis was used to interpret the data. The findings indicate that although the North Shewa Zone is rich in tourism resources, its tourism development remains largely untapped, with only a few active tourist sites. The study identified several factors hindering tourism development in the zone: insufficient government attention at the district and zonal levels, budget constraints, a shortage of tourism professionals, inadequate marketing and promotional efforts, safety and security issues, lack of a formal data registration system, low stakeholder involvement, absence of relevant studies and reports, and a shortage of tourism suppliers. Moreover, the study revealed the presence of multiple potential stakeholders in the region and highlighted the weak collaboration among them in fostering tourism development. Based on these findings, the researchers propose sustainable tools and strategies, providing recommendations aimed at accelerating the development of sustainable tourism in the Northern Shewa Zone of Oromia Regional State.
