Bridging Custom and Bureaucracy: Examining Collaboration Between Traditional Rulers and Municipal Authorities in Local Development in Ghana

This study explores the collaborative dynamics between traditional rulers and the Asante Akyem Central Municipal Assembly in Ghana's local development landscape. Employing a descriptive cross-sectional design, it draws on surveys, interviews, and focus group discussions to assess joint efforts in education, infrastructure, sanitation, and recreation. The findings indicate that while both actors share development goals, collaboration remains fragmented, often shaped by informal relationships rather than institutional frameworks. Moderate cooperation occurs in land provision and school advocacy, while physical development and recreation see limited synergy due to role ambiguity and weak coordination. Challenges include lack of formal mechanisms, resource constraints, and political interference. Nonetheless, traditional leaders contribute significantly through community mobilization and cultural legitimacy. The study recommends formalized partnerships, inclusive planning, and capacity-building to enhance integrated governance and effective service delivery. Religion and metaphor

I use the gospel of Mark and the gospel of John to demonstrate that religion uses a lot of metaphors. I then turn to Lacan to analyze the conditions required to be able to deal with metaphors. Lacan argues that the child originally forms a symbiotic relationship with the mother. When the child sees that the mother has an interest in the father, the child then tries to find out what mark in the father is of interest to the mother. The child then identifies with that mark and makes it the center of its identity. The child thereby becomes psychologically a different child. Still the child remains John Smith. To be the same and be different is the definition of a metaphor. The presence of a paternal figure in the life of a child is the reason why such a child can deal with metaphors and is ready for religious metaphors. The question then arises what happens to children of single mothers? Do such children lack the connection with metaphors such that they will be less religious or do they have other sources for being religious like the experience that they lack something important as they have no biological father. The Impact of Lifestyle Behaviors on the Physical and Mental Health of Older Inmates at A Southern Louisiana Maximum-Security Prison

This study investigates the impact of lifestyle behaviors on the physical and mental health of older incarcerated males at a Southern Louisiana Maximum-Security Prison-SLMP. Using a dataset of 103 inmates aged 45 and above, the research explores how variables such as substance use history (alcohol, drugs, cigarettes), engagement in physical activity, and participation in lifestyle treatment programs predict self-reported health outcomes. Descriptive statistics reveal that 73.8% of respondents were single, 57.3% identified as Black, and 68.9% reported a history of alcohol use. Furthermore, 54.4% had used drugs, 73.8% had smoked cigarettes, and only 32% had participated in regular physical activity. Nearly 60% reported receiving no lifestyle treatment. A stepwise multiple regression analysis indicated that drug use history (β = -0.28, p < 0.01) and lack of physical activity (β = -0.25, p < 0.05) significantly predicted lower current physical health scores. Mental health outcomes were negatively associated with past drug use (β = -0.34, p < 0.001) and positively associated with participation in lifestyle treatment programs (β = 0.22, p < 0.05). A one-way ANOVA showed significant differences in present health scores among inmates based on whether they participated in physical activity programs (F(2, 100) = 4.67, p < 0.05). These findings underscore the importance of physical activity and substance abuse intervention programs in improving health outcomes in older incarcerated populations. The study contributes to understanding how inmate lifestyle behaviors—before and during incarceration—affect health outcomes, offering evidence for corrections professionals seeking to provide comprehensive and continuous health care in carceral settings like SLMP. The purpose of this study was to investigate the mediating role of customer satisfaction on the relationship between perceived value and customer retention among mobile phone users in public universities of western Kenya region. The study was guided by the social exchange theory which focused on the fundamental principle that humans in social situations choose behaviors that maximize their likelihood of meeting self-interests in those situations.  Descriptive and explanatory research designs were utilized in this study. A questionnaire was used to collect data from sample size of 222 respondents who were sampled from the population. Data collected was analyzed by use of descriptive and inferential statistics. Multiple regressions were used to establish the effect of independent variables on the dependent variable. Mediation test was conducted by following Baron and Kenny (1986) four steps. Further, sobel test were used to test the level of significant of the mediation. The results revealed that Perceived value had significant effect on Customer retention.  Also it was established that, Customer satisfaction was significant in predicting customer retention. Finally, Customer satisfaction had partial mediation effect on the relationship between perceived value and Customer retention. The study recommends that service providers should put more emphasis on perceived values since they influence customer satisfaction and hence customer retention. The study provides new theoretical insight into factors influencing customer retention by incorporating customer satisfaction as a mediator in the relationship between Perceived value and customer retention. Future researchers may use other models such structural equations model, Goodman test among others to test the relationship.
