La antigua ceremonia de las doncellas Cantaderas en León
Get PDFThe feast of Cantaderas that the people and the Church of León celebrated in the Cathedral in August 15th (Virgin's Assumption), was a ritual in wich a series of events of both a cyclical (annual-vital) and historical legendary character were superposed and exalted. We start describing the feast through historical and literary sources, during a period that goes from the sixteenth to the seventeenth centuries. Then we consider the feast as a passage rite and especially as a liminal stage consideration that provides as with a better understanding of the relationship between all the ritual elements.La fiesta de las Cantaderas, que celebraba el pueblo y la iglesia de León en su catedral el 15 de agosto (Asunción de la Virgen), era un ritual en el que se superponían y exaltaban una serie de eventos, de carácter tanto cíclico (anual-vital) como históricolegendario. En primer lugar, la describimos, a través de las fuentes histórico-literarias, en un período que se extiende entre los siglos XVI y XVIII. Después, la analizamos como un ritual de paso y especialmente como una situación de liminaridad, lo que nos ayuda a comprender la interconexión de todos los elementos rituales

Which are the objectives of rhis reconsideration of the past? Why those objectives? How to reínterpret history to seek them? This paper aims at answering these questions. When the present is not gratifying nor pleasing, and the coming future does not seem to be able to change that trend, reconsidering the past becomes necessary. If the past gives an image that is more positive than the present and the future, then it becomes a basic element of collective satisfaction and pride.La historia sirve al presente de diferentes maneras. Las sociedades miran al pasado con diversos objetivos, pero para poder alcanzarlos necesitan siempre su reinterpretación. ¿Que objetivos tienen cuando vuelven su mirada hacia atrás? ¿Por qué esos objetivos? ¿Como reinterpretan la historia para cumplirlos? Estas son las preguntas que hemos intentado responder en nuestro trabajo. Cuando el presente no es halagüeño, ni favorable, y el futuro previsible no parece que vaya a modificar esta imagen, la mirada al pasado se hace necesaria. Si ofrece una imagen más positiva que el presente y el futuro, entonces ese pasado es necesario y se convierte en elemento de satisfacción y fuente de orgullo colectivos

Get PDFThe reason why the number nine appears so widely in the popular therapeutics is the question this research attempts. What symbolism is hidden behind its use. It is started by classifying myths and rites in which the number nine participates, in order to both group them and extract the potential ultimate symbolism from each group. Further, the overall variety of forms in which the number nine appears in different spanish remedies is analyzed. The study of an exorcism, effective against any harm, as well as of the notion of the illness in the popular mentality, allows to propose an answer to the question stated. Finally, the distribution of the numbers that govern in the corresponding procedures throughout different countries and cultures is studied.La pregunta que plantea este trabajo es por qué aparece tanto el número nueve en la terapéutica popular. Qué simbolismo se esconde tras su empleo. Se empieza clasificando mitos y ritos en los que interviene el nueve, para agruparlos y extraer de cada grupo su posible simbolismo último. A continuación se estudia toda la variedad de formas en que aparece el nueve en diferentes remedios españoles. El estudio de un conjuro, eficaz contra cualquier mal, y de la concepción de la enfermedad en la mentalidad popular, permite proponer una respuesta a la pregunta planteada. Por último se estudia la distribución en diferentes países y culturas de los números que dominan en sus respectivos procedimientos
