The study analyses the training and technological knowledge of Baccalaureate and Vocational Training (VET) teachers in the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) to support students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The research highlights the low digital competence of teachers in this area, with differences in favour of Baccalaureate teachers compared to VET teachers. Shortcomings are identified in ICT training, especially in accessibility and personalisation of learning. Through surveys of 318 teachers in Andalusia, the study reveals that neither gender nor the type of school significantly influences digital competence, but age and teaching experience do, albeit to a moderate extent. The research highlights the need to strengthen teacher training with specific programmes that optimise the use of ICT in inclusive education. The conclusions underline the importance of improving teacher training to ensure inclusive and effective teaching, promoting training programmes that reduce the digital divide and favour the integration of students with ASD.El estudio analiza la formación y el conocimiento tecnológico del profesorado de Bachillerato y Formación Profesional (FP) en el uso de Tecnologías de la Información y la Comunicación (TIC) para apoyar a estudiantes con Trastorno del Espectro Autista (TEA). Emotional and physical education are basic elements of our health that are not sufficiently introduced in the university training of future Early Childhood Education teachers. There is evidence of the benefits of physical practice on emotional health and academic performance. A socio-motor intervention of 11 practical sessions was carried out with a group of 64 students of the Early Childhood Education Degree. The emotional intelligence data with TMMS-24 were adequate, except for the reparation factor in males. The perception of fatigue remained at moderate levels and improved throughout the intervention. A weak direct correlation between final fatigue and emotional intelligence was observed. Considering the worsening of emotional and physical health levels among children and young people, it will be necessary to raise awareness and expertise on emotional and physical health among university students in the field of education, and to implement more studies and programmes in the rest of the educational stages.

This study aimed to determine the effect of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) on increasing aerobic performance and speed, specifically for Pencak Silat athletes. Thirteen student-level Pencak Silat athletes were selected using consecutive sampling methods and then divided into two groups: the experimental group (EG, n = 7) and the control group (CG, n = 6). The HIIT protocol on EG consists of 2 minutes x 3 sets, with a 1-minute rest interval between sets to adapt to the motion demands during the match. Yo-Yo Intermittent Recovery Test Level 1 (YYIR1) was used to measure aerobic performance capacity (VO2max) and FST to measure total kicks between pre- and post-HIIT. The results of the study showed that there was an increase in VO2max on EG (44.86±1.90 vs. 48.42±2.67 mL/kg/min; p=0.000) and CG (42.43±1.85 vs. 44.02±2.18 mL/kg/min; p=0.020). The mean delta in VO2max increased between the two groups, with a significant difference (p ≤ 0.05), and the EG produced a larger effect size compared to the CG. For total kicks, there was a substantial increase between pre-post on EG (105.72±7.89 vs. 112.57±8.91 n; p=0.001), while CG did not show any significant difference (p ≥ 0.05). These findings prove that the Pencak Silat-specific HIIT protocol can improve aerobic performance and speed specifically for Pencak Silat athletes

Previous studies have demonstrated that aerobic exercise and dietary changes positively impact mental and physical health. This study aimed to assess and compare the effects of three interventions (dietary advice, aerobic exercise, and VR games) on the QoL of obese adolescent females. A total of 100 adolescent females aged 12-17 years with Class A obesity (BMI 30-34.9 kg/m²) were randomly assigned to two groups. Study Group (SG): 50 participants received a combination of diet advice, aerobic exercise, and VR games three times per week for 8 weeks. Control Group (CG): 50 participants received diet advice and aerobic exercise alone, without VR games, for the same duration. There was a significant increase in the QoL of the SG compared with that of the CG (p < 0.01). No significant differences in waist circumference, waist–hip ratio, fat mass, muscle mass, water content, depression and anxiety scores (p > 0.05). By comparing the interventions, the research provided insights into significant increase in QoL of SG compared with that of CG. These results could inform future health and education policies aimed at enhancing the health of teenagers in the digital era

This article analyzes the value of single-case designs (SCDs) in the fields of personalized healthcare and education, highlighting their growing relevance in research with small samples. In these designs, the same subjects are repeatedly assessed based on the same outcomes, which offers methodological advantages but also poses statistical challenges. The author compares three common statistical methods for analyzing SCD data: randomization tests, Bayesian percentage of non-overlapping data (PAND-B), and time series regression (TSR). While PAND-B allows for the incorporation of prior knowledge and avoids questionable assumptions required by TSR, it has limitations: it does not adequately consider ordinal or quantitative information and provides invalid estimates when samples are unequal. To overcome these shortcomings, the use of the Generalized Relative Effect (GRE), based on the Brunner-Munzel relative effect statistic, is proposed. This approach retains applicability to all levels of measurement (nominal, ordinal, and quantitative) and allows for the integration of prior theoretical or empirical knowledge through Bayesian prior distributions.

Migration and Social Transformation: Myths, theories and politics

    Get PDF
This chapter seeks to unpack the many ‘migration myths’ which float around in official discourse, feeding prejudice and misinformation. It takes migration to be part of a broader process of social transformation and not something self-contained. It foregrounds the mobility of labour as an integral element of the capitalist mode of production in the era of globalization. It also places in a central position the uneven nature of capitalist development on a global scale, that is only superficially captured by the mainstream distinction between ‘sender’ and ‘receiving’ countries. Finally, it emphasises the active role that migrant workers play as against the common picture of them as always victims.
