    No full text
This study was aimed to know the perception of the second semester of English department students’ in Institut Pendidikan Nusantara Global when they have to use daring learning as a media for their learning process when they did the quarantine because of the COVID-19 virus. The researcher did a qualitative case study with a total 32 students’ involved as well as participants. This study used several data instruments in gathering the data dealing with the question of the study, i.e: analysis of students’ writing tests in the form of writing essays and interviews. The researcher also gave a detailed description of a case study – its definition, some classifications, and several advantages and disadvantages –to provide a better understanding of this widely used daring study. The data were then analyzed whether their writing results were reaching the minimum standard or not and were the students doing well in a daring study or not. From the comparisons, the researcher makes a conclusion in the form of descriptions whether the students of the English department in Institut Pendidikan Nusantara Global enjoy their daring study while quarantining or not

This study aimed at determining whether the PBL model and learning styles could influence the students' mathematical problem-solving and self-esteem abilities. This study was a quasi-experimental study, in which in include of two classes namely X MIPA 1 class (Mathematics and Natural Sciences); moreover, there were 24 students who used the PBL learning model as an experimental class and X MIPA 2 (Mathematics and Natural Sciences) that consisted of 22 students used a scientific learning model as a control class at SMAN 17 Pandeglang on the academic year of 2019/2020. In addition to the learning model, the students were also categorized based on visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles. The data were collected by means of learning style questionnaires, problem-solving ability test, and self-esteem questionnaires. The data analysis was performed statistically both descriptive and inferential. The validity of mathematical problems was based on the expert assessment and validity test while the reliability was tested using product moment correlation. Pre-test and post-test data had been tested and both of them were homogeneous and normally distributed. The homogeneity test used Lavene test and the normality test used Chi Square. The influence test was performed using statistics, the average difference test, the two-way ANOVA test, and the Post Hoc follow-up test with Scheffe. All data were processed using SPSS. This study indicated the success by obtaining a significant value of 0.00 <α. Hence, it can be concluded that there is an effect of the implementation of PBL models and learning styles on mathematical problem-solving and self-esteem abilities

Environmental literacy (EL) must be implanted in education, including at the Islamic Boarding School. This study aimed to analyze the EL of students (focus on ecological knowledge/EK, verbal commitment/VC, and actual commitment/AC) in MA Bilingual-Sidoarjo. The approach used was a quantitative approach, supported by qualitative data. This research was ex-post facto, for three months. The research subjects were 120 students (40 each grade), taken by purposive sampling. EL was assessed using MSELS/I. The analysis was carried out by tabulating it into Microsoft Excel 2010. The results showed various EL scores. The aspects of EK vary, from sufficient to high levels. Students in class XI and XII-IPA have a relatively high EK score, while students of class X-IPS have low score. The distribution of students' EK scores in one class group was very diverse. Students tend to have an attitude (VK) that agrees to take pro-environmental actions, especially on small things, but the opposite in terms related to the system and the involvement of many people. At the level of behavior (AC), students tend to show pro-environmental actions. Thus it can be concluded that EL students tend to be diverse, tend to increase their quality according to class level

This study was intended to find out the students’ ability in reading descriptive text. Reading skills are considered as an important skill and are uneasy to acquire. In this study, there were 40 students of the second year students of SMAN 1 Sikur are involved as the subject of this study. The method used in this research is a quantitative study. In collecting the data, the writer used a reading test. The data were analyzed through basic statistical computation. To find out their ability and difficulties in reading descriptive text, the test was used which consists of 25 items to students in the form of multiple choice. The test score for each item was 0.4 points. The result of data analysis showed that the mean score of the second year students of SMAN 1 Sikur in reading the descriptive text was fairly good. There were 21 (52.5%) students who were in a high position and 19 (47.5%) students were in a low position. Although 52.5% of students in a high position and 47.5% in a low position, the students’ mean score shows a low position, it is 7.2 mean score which classified as fairly good. Therefore, the ability of the second year students of SMAN 1 Sikur has not been in a high position which is categorized from excellent to good score level. This is caused by the lack of reading strategy and vocabulary. The two weaknesses become students’ difficulties in reading descriptive text

Antibacterial activity test Staphylococcus aureus and Salmonella typhihas been performed by microencapsulation product of rogo essential oil (Premnaserratifolia Linn). This study aims to determine rogo oil activity test and microencapsulation results as antibacterial S. aureus and S. typhi. The results of antibacterial activity of rogo liquid oil to S. aureus and S. Typhi bacteria showed different inhibitory power of each concentration variation of 12.5%, 25%, 50% and 100% with 100% concentration as the best inhibitor for both bacteria. While the antibacterial activity test of S. aureus and S. typhi from microencapsulated rogo oil: maltodextrin showed the difference of each variation of concentration 1:10; 1:12; 1:14; 1:16 and 1:18 with a 1:14 composition of S. aureus and 1:18 in S. typhi as the best ratio of activity power. The antibacterial activity test between liquid rogo oil and microencapsulated result shows the difference, but it can be concluded that the inhibitory power of rogo oil from microencapsulation is more inhibited than 100% rogo oil

In the process of teaching and learning English writing skill, some strategies which are considered appropriate for a certain group of learners, may not suitable for other groups as each group has its own problems and needs in writing. Therefore, teaching learning strategies for English writing requires to be continuously developed. This study aims to design strategies based on the students’ writing needs and problems as the development of the previous common implemented strategies in writing course classes at English Study Program of Cordova University, West Sumbawa Regency. The research subjects were students who are active studying English as their major specialization and lecturers who have been teaching English writing course in academic year 2018/2019.The result shows that the previous strategies give little significant impact toward the students’ writing skill progress. For the reasons, new strategies were designed and recommended to be continuously implemented for teaching and learning writing courses and involved in curriculum at English Study Program, Cordova University. Those strategies are (1) Collaborative Writing Strategy. (2) Combining Diary and Guided Writing Strategy. (3) Additional credit hours for writing course classes (4). Graded writing course classes need to be continuously taught by the same lecture

Reading comprehension is important skill to acquire information and knowledge from any kind sources. Difficulties in reading comprehension for students in learning English as EFL/ESL has forced teacher to apply appropriate principles and strategies. One strategy that believed can help to solve the problem in reading comprehension is assessment. Four Roles Model can be adapted for assessment and used as a framework to address the complex nature of reading comprehension difficulties by considering the reader as: (a) a code-breaker, (b) a text-participator, (c) a text-user, and (d) a text-analyser. Breaking the code emphasised decoding of the words, and encoding of information, understanding the conventions of written, spoken, and visual multimodal texts by recognising and using the surface features of print. There are two kinds table of assessment. Table 1 presents a flexible reading comprehension assessment matrix showing the four roles of the reader with the before, during and after reading phases. Table 2 shows the elements within the matrix can be adjusted to reflect appropriate items suited for different stages of reading development or with a particular focus in mind
