Robust Control of Hydro-Thermal Power System Considering Energy Capacitor System
This article proposes a robust controller design of hydro-thermal power system considering of the thermal power plant area connected to the hydro power plant area. The automation generation control of an interconnected hydro-thermal power system with a small Energy Capacitor System (ECS) augmented to both area has been investigated. The controller is used in order to control the frequency robustly and to improve the power system stability due to the uncertainties in load change and energy capacitors in the system. The power from the load changes are introduced into the system and treated it as the uncertainty during the design process. The H-infinity loop-shaping design procedure (H-infinity LSDP) is adopted as the control design procedure in this study. The results reveal that H-infinity LSDP can achieve higher performance and more robustness compared with PID controller
Water Quality Monitoring of Unhas Lake Water
The Hasanuddin University has two lakes / site that form a reservoir ecosystem network of water potential as a buffer zone soil water conservation both inside the campus and the region around the Unhas campus. Therefore, Unhas Lake water resources must be protected in order to get clear and healthy water for humans and other living things and should be monitored for water quality regularly and continuously. The research method is observational method with a descriptive study design. The water samples were taken from Unhas Lake which is divided into five sampling points determined by purposive sampling method. Based on physical parameters test results of five sampling points obtained, Unhas Lake Water temperatures were quite stable, ranged between 27,2°C-28,2°C. TDS test results obtained that TDS levels of Unhas Lake Water ranged from 129 mg/l-140 mg/l and were under water quality standard for Class 1 that requires TDS level maximum 1000 mg/l. Meanwhile, TSS test results that meet class I quality standard was station 2, 3, 4, ranged between 10 mg/l-26 mg/l, while stations (points) that did not meet the quality standard for Class 1 were station 1 and 5 i. e 60 mg/l and 90 mg/l, while the maximum permissible level was 50 mg/l. Based on chemical parameters test results, quality of Unhas Lake Water did not meet the quality standard criteria for Class 1 listed in Government Regulation Number 82 Year 2001 for parameters ammonia, BOD5, COD, DO, and nitrite. Meanwhile, the chemical parameters for class 1 quality standard that meet are iron, fluoride, nitrate, and sulfate. Based on microbiological parameters test results of five sampling points showed that Fecal coliform bacteria level at stations (points) 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 were 295 MPN/100 ml, 4352 MPN/100 ml, 17329 MPN/100 ml, 142 MPN/100 ml, and 30 MPN/100 ml, Fecal coliform bacteria with the highest number was at station (point) 3 and the lowest was at station (point) 5. The number of total coliform bacteria at stations 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 were 24196 MPN/100 ml, > 24196 MPN/100 ml, > 24196 MPN/100 ml, 10462 MPN/100 ml, and 10462 MPN/100 ml, total coliform bacteria with the highest number were at station (point) 2 and 3 and the lowest were at station (point) 4 and 5
A Trip Intensity Model on Shopping Travel to the Traditional Market in Makassar City
The present study aims to analyze the travel behaviors of traditional market’s visitors in Makassar City, Indonesia, such as the visitor characteristics, trip chain, and the travel attributes of the visitors. In further, the present study models the trip intensity of the traditional market visitors using the multiple linear regression approach. The study carried out an interview survey on the visitors of Niaga Daya traditional market, one of the biggest traditional markets in the city. The interview survey based on a questionnaire sheet was conducted during the operation time of the market for two days, one day of weekday and one day of weekend. The analysis results show that the majority of the traditional market’s visitors are women and their profession as housewife. In addition, the trip chain of the visitors is dominated by the home-market-home pattern, and most of the visitors used a motorcycle. Furthermore, the results of the visitor intensity model to the traditional market show that the multiple linear regression model used is enough significant in the acceptance of the model. The model analysis revealed that the occupation, the household income, the travel distance, and the travel cost of the visitors have influenced significantly the visitor’s intensity in conducting the shopping travel to the traditional market. The study results provide an expectation in order to develop the continued travel behavior models such as the arrival time choice and the travel mode choice models of the visitors in further studies
Factors Affecting Traffic Noise Based On Road Environment Aspects
The purpose of this study is to analyze factors affecting traffic noise on arterial and collector roads in Kendari. The factors are road environment aspects, including building density, tree density, leaf lush volume, types of road environment ground surface, as well as temperature. Analytical approach with simple and multiple regression methods was used with SPSS software ver. 22.0. The results show that based on the determination coefficient, partially, tree density has the highest effect by 19%, then leaf lush volume 9.7%, temperature 9.1%, building density 8.7%, and types of road environment ground surface 5.8%. However in this study, the factors significantly affecting the noise are only tree density, leaf lush volume, and temperature. It is based on the value of sig-ï¡ < 0.05. Simultaneously, the variability of noise levels can be explained by the variables of tree density, leaf lush volume, and the air temperature by 31.1%, while 68.9% is explained by other factors not examined in this stud
Experimental Model of Suction Head on Expansive Soil Subgrade with Concrete Wall Moisture Barrier
Soil expansivity generally occured caused by the presence of a clay mineral of smectite group, such as montmorillonite, illite, bentonite, etc, which could absorb so much water. The impact of losses incurred by soils ekspansivity on buildings and infrastructure primarily on lightweight structures are staggering. Technology is often applied as a solution to problems such as improvement of material characteristics, providing early treatment of constructive and structural engineering support to overcome the adverse effects of expansive soil. Erecting concrete moisture barrier on the side of the road is a combination of the provision of early treatment and support in structural engineering change control water content in the soil layer of expansive.This study aims to determine the behavior of suction, moisture barrier effects on suction head reduction, and the experimental model of suction head profile with the erecting and testing of the models tested in the laboratory.The test model was made to resemble half of the road width with a load of 30 kPa on it. On the side of the road mounted concrete wall moisture barrier with a variation of the depth of 20 cm, 35 cm and 50 cm. Observation of time and water absorption carried out on 8 observatories, also the amount of swelling through a dial that is placed above the concrete slab load. The results showed an increase in capillary water in front bulkhead for all variations of depth moisture barrier and water absorption height reduction occurred in the rear bulkhead respectively 3.25%, 21.25% and 45% for the ratio of height bulkhead and expansive soil thickness h/H = 0.44, h/H = 0.78 and h/H = 1.11. Also the reduction of swelling respectively by 4.46%, 52.69% and 82.53% for each ratio h/H above
Assessment of Trees Outside Forest (TOF) in Selected Makiling Subwatersheds
Trees outside Forest (TOF) are trees, shrubs, bushes including palms that are found in the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) other land classification that can be agricultural, urban, or non-agricultural/urban. TOF provide various services and functions that are neither well documented nor given enough attention, hence the need to identify and assess them in agriculture and urban areas outside Mt. Makiling. A SPOT satellite image (2010) covering the Cambantoc, Molawin-Dampalit, and Tigbi subwatersheds of Mt. Makiling was used in the supervised classification of forests, lakes, agriculture, and urban areas. Areas that qualify as other lands were extracted using the classified land types as guides in GIS vector format. Using Google Earth imagery, other lands were digitized and assessed following the FAO decision tree algorithm for TOF and field checking was conducted to validate the tree height in the TOF criteria. Based on the GIS and field assessment, Tigbi and Molawin-Dampalit were found to have TOF on urban land that are mostly fruit trees cultivated for food, landscaping while Cambantoc has TOF on agricultural land and TOF on non-agricultural/urban that are used as farm windbreaks. Findings suggested that TOF contributed to the tree canopy cover in Makiling subwatersheds. Assessment of TOF can be used to account for the ecosystem services it provides which complement those that come from forests and other wooded lands. FAO also recognizes the importance of TOF for local and national food security. TOF, especially fruit trees, are important source of food products for the people
Genetic Relationship amongst Marica, Kacang Goat and Capra species
Marica goat is an endemic species that can be found only in South Sulawesi, Indonesia. It has been reported by the FAO as endangered species because its number of population has been significantly decreased. Domestication by local people has been done by cultivating them with Kacang goat that leads to an interbreeding process. Conservation of the goats must be done immediately due to its rapidly decreasing population. However, accurate identification and quantification of the goat by DNA analysis is highly important. The objective of this study is to determine the differences amongst marica, kacang and Capra hircus, C. caucasica and C. falconeri from the GenBank. The sequence of the mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) at d-loop region of 30 Marica goats and five Kacang goats from three districts in South Sulawesi were investigated. Their nucleotide sequences were compared with the sequence of the GenBank’s Capra sp and were analyzed using Dendogram neighbor joining tree. The results showed that there were a few nucleotide differences between some Marica and Kacang goat that were located at 20, 840 and 980bp. In addition, both nucleotides sequence have short genetic distance compared to C. hircus. However, comparing with other Capra sp, the distance was significantly far. Meanwhile, according to the dendogram, it was found that all Goats and Capra sp came from the same ancestral lineage. It can be concluded that Marica and Kacang goats could be very closely related with C. hircus but they were different from the C. caucasica and C. falconeri
Plastic Particles in Silverside (Stolephorusheterolobus) Collected at Paotere Fish Market, Makassar
Plastics represent the latest contaminant in the marine environment. Although plastics without doubt represent a uniquely valuable material particularly in construction, packaging and fishing gear applications. Current research on plastic debris in digestive tract content of pelagic fish is part of ongoing collaboration between University of Hasanuddin and University of California at Davis. Locally caught and consumed Silverside (Stolephorusheterolobus) or widely known as anchovies has been the subject on this studies. Freshly landed fish were collected from Paotere fish market, which is also the biggest fish wholesale location at Makassar City, South Sulawesi, Indonesia. At laboratory fish digestive tracts were removed and digested in 10% KOH at 60o C overnight, followed with plastic particles observation using binocular microscope. Four out of 10 fish investigated were found to contained plastic particles in their digestive tract. This is the first work on plastic debris in fish gut ever conducted in the region, which is in accordance to previous works on plastics debris elsewhere and will be further discussed for their possible effects, both on food safety and human toxicology
The Effect of Fusaric Acid Application on the Lignin and Suberin Formation as Resistance Indicator on Tomato
Fusaric acid (=FA) is a phytotoxin produced by Fusarium oxysporum, pathogen of wilt disease on tomato. A concentration of FA causes death of plant. However, low concentration will elicit various plant defense responses and inhibit pathogen growth. The research focused on the observation of lignin and suberin formation after application of FA on tomato in different concentration. This research was caried out at elementary laboratory of Agriculture Faculty of Muhammadiyah University of Parepare, Parepare and Micology Laboratory of Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta. Four concentrations of FA (sigma) 0, 25, 50, 75, and 100 ppm were used in this research, whereas inoculation with Fusarium oxysporum was served as control. Lignin and suberin formations in plant cell as structural resitantance response were analyzied by using microtechnique protocol. The result of histological analysis showed that treatment of F. oxysporum, 10 ppm, 50 ppm, 75 ppm, and 100 ppm of FA, caused a change in lignin content of tomato cell on 10 – 40 days after application and followed also by necrotitation. The application of 25 ppm FA increases the lignin and the suberin content without necrosis on 20 and 30 days after application
Addressing Small Scale Fisheries Management through Participatory Action Research (PAR), an Experience from the Philippines
This case demonstrates the potential of addressing small scale fisheries management through participatory action research (PAR) in one of the CRP 1.3/AAS sites in the Philippines. Following the iterative process of PAR, a series of focus group discussions (FGDs) to reflect on the issues and concerns of small scale fishermen (SSF) in Barangay Binitinan, Balingasag, Misamis Oriental, Philippines was carried out from February to May, 2014. This was followed by the conduct of consultative workshop among stakeholders in SSF in June 2014, the main objective of which was to develop a collective action plan for the management of said resource. The FGDs employed facilitated iteration and reflection of issues affecting various groups of small scale fishing community, while the Consultative Workshop among stakeholders used the appreciation-influence-control model of participatory stakeholder engagement (Ratner 2011).Consequently, various stakeholders of small scale fisheries begin to understand, appreciate and take actions together. A feeling of trust and confidence among them begin to develop which enabled them to craft a collective action plan on sustainable management and governance of municipal waters and fisheries resources. Aside from these outcomes, these processes led to the admission of “sahid†(beach seine) operators that they are indeed using illegal gear, that their gear would be replaced by the legal one by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), that the Law Enforcers would implement the Law and the small scale fishermen would abide the rules and would be apprehended by Law Enforcers once they violate the rules and the LGUs asking stakeholders to feedback the amendments necessary to make municipal ordinances well fitted to them. Another major outcome of these processes was the identification of research topics which the stakeholders identified to be necessary so that science-based productivity and governance decisions can be put in place. All of these activities fall within the PAR processes
