Becoming Others and Othering Others: Cultural Shock in Architecture Anthropological Research
This study describes split identity as result of culture shock experienced by researchers on the field of study of architectural design who conducted anthropological research, where the study itself was located on researcher’s origin that is Hasanuddin University (UNHAS). Researchers experienced shifting identities from being herself into someone different or to be estranged according to her own experience context in research process. While acting as an architect researcher sees her anthropolog self as different person or being estranged by architect society. When conducting a qualitative approach, researcher looked at herself who does not use quantitative approach to be estranged by engineering sciences community. And vice versa! This study is a series of studies conducted as a doctorate candidate in Anthropology Department UNHAS
Comparative Theoretical Study of Response of R.C Slab for Hard Missiles Impact
Nuclear facilities as well as other important government, military and security premises are usually protected against missile impacts from missiles and flying objects using reinforced concrete panels. The current study attempts to conduct a comparative theoretical study of the response of R/C slabs under hard missiles impact. More than 26 formulae were developed previously by many researchers to facilitate the design of R/C slabs against the impact of hard missiles. Different empirical and semi-empirical formulae available in the literature were collected, studied, classified and evaluated with respect to the main performance indicators (penetration, scabbing and perforation). A computer program was developed using the most important formulae. The effect of each selected independent variable on the slab performance was studied and evaluated comparatively between the different formulae .In the comparison of penetration formulae the ACE formula, Petry and Amman formula over-estimate the penetration depth compare to the other formulae. The Chang, Adli and Bechtel formulae gave the minimum of scabbing thickness compare to the other formulae. The ACE, Adli, CEA-EDF perforation formulae under-estimate the perforation thickness
Prioritization of Irrigation Areas Based on the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) at the Rokan Hulu Regency, Riau, Indonesia
The Riau Province, Indonesia has launched a Program of Food Self-Sufficiency (Operasi Pangan Riau Mandiri program) since 2013, which the main objective was to achieve self-sufficiency in the rice production. Under the local government budget constraints, only small numbers of the existing irrigated areas were able to be further developed. The Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method was applied in assisting the local government of the Rokan Hulu regency in selecting and prioritizing which irrigated areas will be developed. This study identified five significant criteria for the development of irrigated area, such as: (i) institutional capacity building criteria (weight value = 45.6%), (ii) technical one (21.3%), (iii) economic (19.2%), (iv) social/culture (8.1%), and (v) environmental criteria (5.8%). The higher the weighted value of the criteria, the more important it will be. The priority irrigation areas in need to be developed were as the following order: (i) Kaiti Samo irrigation area (weight value = 56%), (ii) Menaming irrigation area (20%), (iii) Palis (14%), and (iv) Perak (10%). These criteria may fit the research objective in selecting the most important irrigated location to be developed
The Ideal Form of the Skew Polynomial Ring Over Quaternion
This research was carried out in order to develop theory about the skew polynomial ring over non-commutative ring. This study aimed to find the ideal form of the skew polynomial ring over the quaternion. The research method was the library study. In order to find the ideal form of the skew polynomial ring over the quaternion, the first thing to do was finding the endomorphism form in the quaternion ring, which was symbolized by , and eleven endomorphisms were obtained. The research results every ring had two ideals form. In general, the rings which had the identically ideal forms were categorized into three: three rings were identical, two rings were also identical, and the rest six rings had identical forms too
Building Bridges to an Uncertain Future Lived Now: Lessons from the Use of Participatory Action Research and Theory of Change Towards A Realistic Community-Based Participatory Monitoring and Evaluation System
Building on experience from the CGIAR Research Program on Aquatic Agricultural Systems implemented by WorldFish in the Visayas and Mindanao regions of the Philippines, known as the VisMin Hub, we describe the development and evolution of a monitoring and evaluation (M&E) system emerging from the facilitated action-reflection cycles of testing and adopting theories of change carried out with community partners through participatory action research (PAR). The former guides our community partners and us, as members of the potentially emergent PAR groups, towards the realization of the community’s vision; the latter facilitates learning to understand what, how and why change is unfolding. Unlike the conventional M&E system where indicators are pre-set at the beginning of program implementation, these processes result in an organically-evolved, communitybased participatory M&E system that is continuously revised according to contexts to guide communities towards realizing their visions. Its ultimate outcome is enhanced people’s capacity to own the product and process, giving rise to an internally-driven change. Towards the end, the paper offers an iterative discussion of learnings from implementing such an approach
Acacia Catechu Trees in Rice Fields: A Traditional Agroforestry System of Northern Bangladesh
Growing Acacia catechu trees on rice fields is one traditional crop-land Agroforestry system of Rajshahi region in Bangladesh. Farming system was explored with detailed information on farm operations and cropping calendar including system outputs. System dynamics was also evaluated. PRA exercises were conducted for a biophysical assessment. The information was collected on informant wise and cross-checked. Best growth of trees observed under rain-fed conditions. Higher density of trees found in un-irrigated fields. Trees were better managed in small plots. In general, density of khoir trees was found higher in small holdings (less than 2 ha) with secured land tenure. Trees on farms were of uneven age indicating the khoir + rice system biologically sustainable. The ease of establishment of Khoir seedlings, the low cost of its maintenance, and less vulnerability to any serious pest or disease, easy marketability of products rated high in the farmer’s preference for khoir. They appreciate the versatility of the wood for a variety of farm uses though its prime economic use to them is for production of lali for katha. They also get pitch khoir as by product of katha (red dyestuff for textiles and paper) production. The multiple products and services offered and the ease of managing the trees on crop fields without causing any immediate or long-term reduction in crop yield seemed to be the most important factors that encourage the farmers to continue this traditional practice. If farmers could be motivated to follow appropriately the silvicultural practices, production could further be increased

Reconstruction of Financing Agreement Based on the Principle of Profit and Loss in Sharia Banking
The main purpose of this paper is to provide an analysis that with the reconstruction of the contract that is based on sharing profits and losses it will form a model contract that has Islamic values, maslahat and justice. In the practice of sharia banking in Indonesia, the financing agreement based on the principle of profit and loss sharing in form standard does not fully reflect the characteristic of the contract. Approach used is legislation approach, conceptual approach and contract approach. Legal materials consist of primary legal materials and secondary legal materials. The study is helpful in practice sharia banking, namely the model of financing contract based on the principle of profit and sharing. Standard contracts in sharia banking serve as a form of legal frame that can be reconstructed. The characteristics of the contract is based on the principle of profit and loss sharing which state is that no one is justified to get a profit without having to bear the business risk
Abuse of Dominant Market Position by Predatory Pricing; The Valio Case
This article analyses the competition law related to abuse of a dominant market position using strategy of predatory pricing by undertakings in the European Union and, compares the same situation to the United States’ predatory pricing law. The purpose of this article is to survey predatory pricing as a phenomenon both within and outside the EU. Article is largely centered on the case of Valio, which is still awaiting final judgment from the Supreme Administrative Court of Finland. This case was chosen as it is extremely topical and has several unique features. The findings proved that undertakings who achieved their dominant position before the recession have significant advantage over smaller undertakings. However, they cannot necessarily afford to act on the same basis for long, which is why a model closer to that of the United States would be of benefit to control some behaviors of these undertakings. Bearing in mind that the Valio case is examined under EU law, it will be interesting to see if its judgement will be remembered as the ‘milk fallacy’ or if it will change the face of the case law as it currently stands
Legal Policy of Water Resources Management by Local Governments: A Review of Right to Water in Indonesia
This study is based by the cancellation of Act No. 7 of 2004 on Water Resources by the Indonesian Constitutional Court. Over the past 10 years, the law is the basis for the water resources management in Indonesia. The cancellation of the law would provide great impact for water resources management policy, especially with regard to the provision of right to water. Hence, this study aimed to determine the legal status of Right to Water provided by the local government after the cancellation of Act No. 7 of 2014 on Water Resources. The object of this normative study includes legal principles and systematic. This is due to the focus of this study is the meaning of the right principle to ruled state in the context of realizing the peoples’ prosperity and the position of Water Resources Act as the basis for the issuance of Government Regulation and Right to Water. The results of study indicate that in order to provide legal certainty for permit holder for Right to Use Water and Right to Commercialize Water, the ministry has issued various ministerial regulations, although the nature of these regulations only fills a legal vacuum. In the case of permit to Use of Water Resources, all permits for use of water resources that use surface water issued before the decision of Constitutional Court No. 85/PUU-XI/2013 are still valid. To permit referred to it, evaluation is conducted based on 6 (six) the principles of water resources management. Request new permit are in the process or for renewal of permit to use water resources that use surface water, processed as 6 (six) principles of water resources management. Although, in order to ensure legal certainty, the government should immediately issues the Act in Lieu of Water Resources Management which will be the basis for water resources management in Indonesia
