    Petrology and Geochemistry of Granitoid from South Sulawesi, Indonesia: Implication for Rare Earth Element (REE) Occurrences

    This study reports petrology and geochemistry of potential rare earth elements (REE) bearing granitoid from South Sulawesi. The granitoid consists of monzogranite, granodiorite and diorite with subordinate of quartz monzonite, monzodiorite and syenite. Major and trace element analysis were determined using XRF method while trace element and rare earth element composition were determined by ICP-MS method. Geochemical study suggested that the granitoid were metaluminous series and “I-type†granitoid. They were furthered classified as calc alkaline series in AFM diagram. The total REE concentration in the granitoids range from 279 ppm to 400 ppm whereas total REE + Y contents up to 305 ppm for Polewali and 428 ppm for Masamba granitoid. Chondrite normalized REE patterns were characterized by enrichment of LREE with the depletion of heavy HREE. REE-bearing mineral were detected as zircon, apatite and monazite as shown by the positive correlation between Zr and P2O5 contents in bulk rock with REE content

    Duration of Soil Water Content between Field Capacity and Wilting Point and Its Effect on Growth of Some Aerobic Rice Cultivars (Oryza sativa L.)

    Soil water content management is important cultural practices to improve growth and yield of crops. This report was conducted to investigate the duration of soil water content between field capacity (FC) and wilting point (WP) and its effects on growth of aerobic rice cultivars. Experiment was carried out using factorial design i.e. Varieties (Inpago 8 (V1), IR64 (V2) and Situbagendit (V3), combined with 3 soil types based on locations taken i.e.: Maros (M), Gowa (G) and Jeneponto (J) for evapotranspiration and together with control (unplanted) for evaporation measurements. Watering requirement was calculated based on data from soil tester device. Results indicated that varietal difference was not significantly different in all soil source type. Longest soil water contents duration between FC and WP (18 days) recorded by Maros soil under evaporation and 14 days under evapotranspiration. However, plant performance was low compared to other soil source perhaps due to soil structure. The highest number of leaves per plant was shown by GV2 and JV2 (19.4 leaves), plant height by GV1 (30.21 cm), plant fresh weight in GV3 (28.47 g), plant dry weight by GV3 (8.1 g), number of tillers/plant was obtained by the treatments combination GV1 and GV2 (6 tillers) and shoot/root ratio by JV2 (4.9). Understanding the duration of soil water content between FC and WP for each soil types is very important to saving water and our results showed that it could be implemented for a better rice production in aerobic rice in the very near future

    Farmers Community Empowerment through Institutional Strengthening of Rural Food Barn

    Food insecurity is one of the crucial problems to solve. The research objectives are: (1) to describe the form of community empowerment farmers’ through institutional strengthening of rural food barn, (2) to explain the process of community empowerment farmers’ through institutional strengthening of rural food barn, and (3) to find out the constraints faced in the empowerment of peasant communities by strengthening institutional of rural food barn. The research was conducted in Huyula Subdistrict Mootilango Gorontalo, Indonesia, employing qualitative methods by selecting farmers who are using barns to store grain as food reserves. Data were collected through in-depth interview to the informant. The results showed that the empowerment of peasant communities by strengthening institutional food barns can be performed well based on the potential and capability of farmers. Thus the policy of strengthening institutional food barns rural effect on the empowerment of peasant communities in improving family welfare. This implies that Indonesian government still needs to strengthen institutional of of rural food barn to keep food security in broad sense

    This article explores local wisdom “tudang sipulung†(seated together), as conflict settlement medium of Bugis-Makassar Community of South Sulawesi, Indonesia.Tudang sipulung is one of the social institutions that owned the Bugis-Makassar South Sulawesi as a conflict resolution. Tudang sipulung was originally only known in the agricultural community in resolving conflicts related to agriculture, and developing relevant social disputes. Formally, this Tudang Sipulung accommodated by Police in South Sulawesi in the form of a forum called the Mabbulo Sibatang Communication Forum (FKMB) to resolve the conflict. FKMB essence is tudang sipulung between the government, the team of FKMB Police, religious leaders, community leaders, the parties to the dispute and sit together in solving the conflict.     Legal Standing of Coastal Reclamation: Islamic and Positive Law Perspectives

    In several regions, the implementation of reclamation in Indonesia caused much conflict. At least, it caused by three interests; the interest of the government, employers, and society (fishermen). The interests of the Government and local authorities to give permission to reclaiming for the pursuit of local revenue, the interests of employers to reclaiming the coastal, because they wanted to add company’s revenues, while the interests of society (fishermen) to defend coastal areas so it not diminish their livelihood. Reclamation in Indonesia has been governed by legislation, but it has not been able to resolve the coastal reclamation. This is due to the legislation governing coastal reclamation, and local governments are ignorant of the rules concerned. In addition, the central and local governments are often tends to interest of employers rather than the fishing communities, so it triggering conflict in reclamation. Positive law as a law made by the government and legislative assembly and the local government with local legislative, a rule that was born as result of an agreement between them, and neglecting the Islamic law that was created by God to organize all the things in this world, including in the management of the universe (coastal). God as the creator of this universe, allowing to manage and utilize natural, if for the benefit of humanity as a whole, and not for those of a human. Therefore, in the implementation of reclamation, the Government and local authorities need to synergize Islamic law into positive law in resolving the problems of social and natural resources

    An Approach of Legisprudence Theory to Assess the Quality of Local Regulation

    The applicable law (as a result of legislation) is not always a reflection of the society concerned. Local regulations in the area were impressed into law to be “forced†because it does not conform to the spirit and characteristics of the society. The formation of local regulation is increasingly complex and complicated when the process and its substance beside cannot be separated from the political process, it is also cannot be separated from social processes. The problematic of local regulation formation is indicated by the fact that the authorized institution to arrange the local regulation is still not sufficient to produce products of high quality local laws. Legisprudence theory may open new perspectives on the validity of norm or legitimacy of norm and by course using this approach the quality of local regulations will be more qualified. Although a political approach is more into the heart in the legislative process but legislation and regulation can be an important object. Legal theory is not only a basis on enforcement or implementation of the rule of law, but it is very useful theory in law-making

    Model Development Relating Electrical Resistivity to Mechanical Elasticity of Hydrothermal Aquifer at Geothermal Area of Panggo-Kaloling, Sinjai Regency, Indonesia

    A mathematical model has been developed to obtain the relationship between two parameters of electrical resistivity and mechanical elasticity of subsurface rocks of the hydrothermal area of Panggo-Kaloling in Sinjai Regency.The model was developed using data exploration concerning of both methods from the area under consideration. Constructed model is able to relate a time travel of seismic waves propagation that stands for mechanical elasticity to electrical resistivity in the area. The characterictic properties of the relation show a close connection to the parameter of porosity of the subsurface rocks. Comparing the results derived from the modeling with that of obtained from measurement gives suitable approximation with error level of less than 20%. The study concludes that the model is able to predict mechanical elasticity by using geo-electric method, or electric resistivity by using seismic refraction method

    Effect of Seed Priming with Some Plant Leaf Extract on Seedling Growth Characteristics and Root Rot Disease in Tomato

    Tomato is one of the important vegetable crops. The problem of seedling establishment is found in tomato due to several soil borne diseases. One of them is root rot caused by Fusarium oxysproum. There are many chemical methods available to control this disease, but use of chemicals deplete the soil micro-environment and causes soil and water pollution and also do not fit within the framework of ‘Organic farming’. Seed priming with certain phytochemicals may be an economic and ecofriendly alternative to such chemicals. In present study we primed tomato seeds with leaf extract of six different plants (White musale, Periwinkle, Neem, Wood apple, Lantana and White cedar). Different leaf extracts of dose of 2% was taken independently for seed priming. We found that priming with White musale, Periwinkle, Neem and wood apple leaf extract had an improvement in different seed and seedling growth parameters in presence of pathogen. Priming with Lantana and white cedar leaf extract showed a reduction in some of the parameters that may be due to allelopathic nature of these plants. Seed priming with leaf extract of Wood apple exhibited maximum survival rate (76.50 %) followed by Neem (68.46 %) and White Musale (52.60 %)

    Coastal Community Welfare Improvement through Optimization of Integrated Pond Farming Management in Indonesia

    The lack of tenure and limited production factors causing coastal communities always be trapped on the circle of poverty, or far from prosperous. The research objective is to optimize the use of seaweed production factors that integrated with milkfish to improve the welfare of coastal communities in Indonesia. Data analysis employed Multiple Goal Programming methods. The results showed that the average of pond tenure by farmers covering 5,1 Ha with seaweed production 13,191 tons, and profits IDR76,347,700.0 per year (1USD equal to 13,000IDR). The maintenance costs of pond is the kind of production factor that limited availability, while production factors seeds, seedlings, fertilizers, and pesticides, are relatively available to farmers. Optimization results the integrated management of pond show the maximum revenue is achieved IDR1,089.89 million, labor employment 72 people, and target of seaweed production reached 188.65 tons. This means that the welfare of the farmers can be improved through the expansion of pond, and the addition of the production factor, especially capital and fertilizer
