Model Draft Regulation on Cryptocurrency in India
This article looks at the application of present Indian payment system policies and regulatory model on virtual-currency in India. In fact, simply banning cryptocurrency in India would not serve the purpose of legislature and Reserve Bank of India (RBI); rather it will boost cryptocurrency frauds in India due to absence of any law. The present article analysis shows that there is an ample scope within the present models and policies with necessary amendments to facilitate the regulation of virtual-currency in India. The analysis also suggests new model regulation on cryptocurrency which shall constitute the basic model regulations in India to govern cryptocurrency technology and products. Author uses the Banking Regulation Act as a model, regulating all types of new fintech products such as cryptocurrency, Bitcoin & business activity, its intermediaries, exchanges, customer protection in robust and transparent fashion in India
Sizing Optimization of Retaining Wall by Firefly Algorithm
Retaining wall is used to retain the lateral pressure of soil and surface loading. It has been widely used for application in civil engineering structure such as fill application, roadway cut, etc. This paper considered a firefly algorithm to find out the optimum size and shape of retaining wall with 7m of height and subjected to various loading (5kN/m2, 10kN/m2, 20kN/m2, 40kN/m2). There are four design variables considered for optimization. The objective is to minimize the weight of the retaining wall without violating the requirement of retaining wall. This paper considered stability check of the retaining wall such as overturning stability, sliding stability, and bearing capacity of the soil under the retaining wall. The result shows that the shape of retaining wall with load of 5kN/m2 and 10kN/m2 were similar, the body of the retaining wall were rectangular while the shape of retaining wall with load of 20kN/m2 and 40kN/m2 were trapezoidal. Sliding stability became design control for all loading cases compared by other stability problem (overturning and bearing capacity of soil under the retaining wall). Therefore, it can be concluded that firefly algorithm has successfully been applied to optimize the retaining wall
EVALUATION OF THE PROFITABILITY AND PERFORMANCE OF YOUTH PARTICIPATION IN CASHEW NUT (ANACARDIUM OCCIDENTALE) MARKETING IN ANKPA LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF KOGI STATE, NIGERIA
This study assessed youth participation in cashew nut marketing in Ankpa Local Government Area of Kogi State, Nigeria. It specifically described the socioeconomic characteristics of the youths, examined the profitability of youth involvement in cashew nut marketing, assessed the efficiency and performance of youth in cashew nut marketing, and determined the level of market integration in cashew nut marketing. A three staged random sampling method was used to select 120 youth involved in cashew nut marketing for the study. Relevant primary data obtained through structured questionnaire were analysed using descriptive statistics, gross margin model, marketing efficiency, and Pearson price correlation. Findings of the study showed a mean age and marketing experience of 37 years and 10 years respectively. Gross margin obtained was N 445, 563.90 per annum, N14, 811.11 per bag and N185.11per kg with a high efficiency level of 654%. The level of integration (0.415) between Awo and Enjema markets was significant 5%. Youth are encouraged to consider cashew nut marketing as an option to reduce unemployment and improve their welfare.Â
LIFE WITH THE YAMABIRU (LAND-DWELLING LEECH) AFTER THE FAILURE OF A FENCE IN RURAL JAPAN
In recent years, Haemadipsa zeylanica japonica, a land-dwelling leech referred to as a “yamabiru†in Japanese, has proliferated in the countryside of Japan, because wild animals are a vector of the yamabiru. In some areas, the yamabiru suck the blood of people even in houses. This paper explores how residents living in a yamabiru “hot spot,†where the number of yamabiru is large, have coexisted with the creature which, though troublesome, is almost impossible to avoid. Z City in Kanagawa Prefecture attempted to maintain a long fence to prevent wild animals from entering the “human domain,†although this did not work as expected. Instead, the daily contact between people and the yamabiru generated various relationships other than a simple, hostile relationship: kill-or-be-killed. The trouble caused by the yamabiru encourages the interviewees to rethink their society and history, though coexistence with the yamabiru can never do away with the dream of extermination. Coexistence with yamabiru, in this context, means not living separately, but living with trouble in the contact zone, without making clear-cut borders between human and non-human domains. This paper attempts to demonstrate that people can make efforts to create various relationships even with “real,†not metaphorical, parasites. Insights from this research may bring to light new information that will be of value to contemporary society, where numerous borders that divide people and social groups are being drawn
PRACTICAL MODEL OF INDIGENOUS CO-CREATION FOR THE SUSTAINABILITY OF INDONESIAN WOVEN SONGKET
Innovation is the main key to the sustainability of all industries. Fashion industry with traditional woven as its basic material is one of complex industries for its association with social environment in all cultural values, market taste, chain value, life cycle products and even government policy. This focus will likely be important as indigenous characteristic in the traditional woven becomes the competitive advantage of a region. The outcome of this study showed that traditional woven co-creation in design need an involvement of social actors in the social learning process. Indigenous co-creation of traditional woven is a social innovation learning activities that needs adequate involvement of actors and context. The purpose of this study is to analyze the challenges and constraints for the sustainability of Indonesian woven songket and to develop a practical co-creation model in attempt to cope with various constraints to generate recommendation for decision makers at local goverment level. This study used qualitative approach. The primary and secondary data to answer the research questions were collected through in-depth interview and focus group discussion.Â
THE EFFECT OF FINANCIAL LEVERAGE ON DEBT REPAYMENT CAPACITY : EVIDENCE FROM LISTED SHIPPING COMPANY IN INDONESIA
Contrast with its potentiality in the largest Archipelago country on the world, shipping industry in Indonesia show unsatisfactory condition whereas its industry’s national growth is below the overall industries growth and industry’s non-performing loan (NPL) rate is higher than national NPL. This condition is caused by the nature of the shipping industry with a high level of business uncertainty and their liability’s structure are dominated by banks and other financial institutions’ long-term debts. This research examines the relationship between financial leverage variable on the debt repayment capacity variable specifically to the banks and other financial institutions. The research population is shipping companies listed in Indonesia stock exchange with a number of samples is 12 companies. The consolidated financial statements in the period between 2014 and 2015 from the selected sample are used in this research. Based on literature review, the variable of company’s leverage is represented by a debt-equity ratio (DER). On the debt repayment capacity variable, the qualitative research method that is Delphi method is applied to define the ratio represented the variable. As the result, the debt repayment capacity variable is represented by Debt Security Coverage Ratio (DSCR). The statistical method that is used in this research is correlation analysis. Correlation analysis is a group of techniques to measure the relationship between two variables that are financial leverage represented by DER and debt repayment capacity represented by DSCR. The result shows that there is a negative correlation between financial leverage that is represented by DER and debt repayment capacity that is represented by DSCR. However, the correlation between them is considered weak with Pearson correlation coefficient less than 0,5 in absolute value or the influence of DER to the DSCR is insignificant
Local Action for Realizing Sustainable Society: A Survey of Japanese "Futurecity" Initiative
To convert a society to a sustainable system, attempts are required not only at international and governmental levels, but also at regional levels. It is necessary to challenge multiple issues through cooperation among various actors, such as national governments, local governments, private enterprises and residents. In Japan, one of the initiatives to achieve “the sustainable†at regional level is the “FutureCity†initiative. This is a part of National Strategic Projects in “New Growth Strategyâ€, which Japanese government introduced in 2010. The purpose of the “Futurecity†initiative is to create the capacity in cities to deal with environmental issues and problems of aging society, as well as establishing sustainable socioeconomic system with environmental aspects, social aspects and economic aspects. Japanese government selected, as the “FutureCityâ€, the five cities (Yokohama city, Shimokawa town, Kashiwa city, Toyama city and Kitakyusyu city) for making pioneering effort on these challenges, and the six cities that were hit by the Great East Japan Earthquake and great Tsunami in 2011. This “Future city†is expected to provide model solution of human common issues as a forerunner. The object of this research is to define the current situations and problems of the “FutureCity†initiative, through a case study on Yokohama city in Kanagawa prefecture, which is characterized as a big city in Japan. Here, we examined how Yokohama city is tackling the environmental issues and problems of aging society as the “FutureCity†and what problems it has in maintaining their initiative itself as a local government. Legal Development of Coastal Marine Management Based on the Idea of Pancasila
In relation to the positive law, the management of marine and coastal natural resources, there is also the rule of customary law. Customary law that still lives and develops in indigenous peoples also regulates the management system and utilization of natural resources in coastal and marine areas. Recognition of the rights of indigenous peoples is constitutionally contained in the 1945 Constitution of the State of the Republic of Indonesia where the state recognizes the existence of the Customary Law Community. In Maluku, marine potency management in general is still done traditionally known as marine customary rights that have been going on for generations but not yet fully recognized either by the government or entrepreneurs who are actually important partners in the development process
Initial Model Development of an Integrated Shipbuilding Industry in Indonesia: a Case Study of Indonesian State Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Shipyards
Capacities of the world shipbuilding industry have been dominated by three major countries which are South Korea, China and Japan. The ship tonnage proportion they have been built is approximately 90% of the total ship tonnage in the world. Indonesia with the rest of the shipbuilding countries only share the rest of the proportion which are far less than the total capacities of those three countries. Indonesia has its potency to increase its shipbuilding industry capacity significantly with the support of 250 shipyards in this country. The increasing capacities can be fulfilled if those shipyards are getting involved in collaboration. The increasing capacity of Indonesian shipyard is need to be actualized to prevent order of shipbuilding rejection from overseas as a consequence of shipyard insufficient capacity. In this paper, an initial model for shipyard collaboration in Indonesia is developed. The number of shipyards to get involved in this initial model is limited to 4 BUMN shipyards. The selection of those shipyards is based on the consideration that those shipyards are under central coordination of Indonesian BUMN Ministry. Some aspects related to the model development are discussed and in the end, an initial model of an integrated shipbuilding industry in Indonesia is proposed
THE INFLUENCE OF UTAUT FACTORS ON E-RETENTION WITH E-SATISFACTION AS MEDIATING VARIABLE IN E-LEARNING
Factors on Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) are factors derived from UTAUT technology acceptance model, which is used to describe the factors that influence the acceptance of individuals on the implementation of a new technology in the enterprise. This study aimed to analyze the influence of UTAUT factors on E-retention with E-satisfaction as mediating variable. This study uses a quantitative approach with the total samples. The results showed that: (1) Performance Expectancy influences E-retention significantly, (2) Effort Expectancy influences E-retention significantly, (3) Social Influence influences E-retention not significantly, (4) Facilitating Conditions influences E-retention significantly, (5) E-satisfaction influences E-retention significantly, and (6) UTAUT Factors influence E-retention with E-satisfaction as mediating variable. However, the bigger impact is shown through the influence of UTAUT Factors on E-retention directly without going through the E-satisfaction.Â
