    Get PDF
On December 26, 2004, the Indian Ocean earthquake, which had its epicenter off the northern coast of Sumatra, was followed by a series of huge tsunami waves, which caused considerable damage to many coastal communities in Asia. In Indonesia, Aceh and North Sumatra suffered the greatest. Many residents rapidly lost their families, homes, fishing boats, farmland, well-being, and self-confidence. Numerous donors provided considerable support, and many victims gradually recovered. Through these tremendous efforts, the victims have gradually regained their well-being; in the over fifteen years since the tsunami, reconstruction has resulted in sustainable community development. This study aimed to determine how the victims have rebuilt their livelihoods and how communities have supported them. The fieldwork comprised interviews with key members of affected local communities in Aceh Besar District in 2006–2018. Some respondents were selected for interview and focus group discussions. This study examines the recovery process, how victims developed social relations, and how they were encouraged and developed self-confidence and independence. The results showed that for the victims, the most important factors in the reconstruction were (1) a firm relationship with family and relatives and (2) a strong sense of community. This study found that women’s activities were supported by Panglima Laot Lhok (fishing communities’ leaders), Toke Bangku (financial traders), and a fish processing association. Those actors were important for the economic, financial, and social institutions in the community. Mutual support in the community and indigenous institutions played roles in strengthening social resilience. The income-generating activities in the mutual system empowered victims—especially women—and their families. The victims developed a feeling of self-confidence and independence that has gradually increased. Through community-based activities, the victims improved their livelihoods. Â

Achieving Sustainable Future through Indigenous People: The Case of Weaver Community in South Pringgasela, West Nusa Tenggara

    Get PDF
This article discusses weave fabric as one of the potential industrial development areas in East Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara. The discussion is conducted by looking at indigenous people as resources that need to be maintained. Indigenous people are native people of an area or natives who maintain the indigenous knowledge as local wisdom of the area. Lombok has weave fabric as a valuable cultural heritage. In the beginning, many villages in Lombok developed various kinds of weavings. However, due to the development of each of the village’s territory, few were able to survive and some had even become extinct due to the declining number of weavers. This is what had led to the establishment of a group of weavers in South Pringgasela. Although in the beginning the establishment of the weaver community was intended to facilitate the weavers in selling their weaving products, the weaver community eventually became a weaving information center for anyone who wants to learn about weaving. This step will achieve success if the surrounding indigenous community were to actively carry it out. A sustainable result is achieved because it is rooted in the weaver community itself. This study employed mixed methods and collected data by using questionnaires, observations and in-depth interviews.Â

Those companies are fulfilling the criteria which are continually included in the LQ’45 index throughout the analysis period. Thus, the data panels used in this study were as much as 115 observations. Fundamental factors proxies by TATO, MBV, CR, DER, NPM, and EPS. The multiple linear regression analysis is used and the results showed that TATO has a significant positive effect on stock returns, MBV has a significant negative effect on stock returns, while CR, DER, NPM, and EPS have no significant effects on the stock return of LQ’45 index-listed companies

Study on the Effect of Fertilizers and Hydrogen Peroxide on Soil Property, Growth, Yield and Nutrient Content of Abelmoschus Esculentus (L.) Moench

    Get PDF
Effect of the application of individual and combination of vermicompost, NPK along with H2O2 was studied on 10, 20, 30, and 40 days old seedlings of Abelmoschus esculentus. The physio chemical characters of soil with vermicompost showed better result and it has all kinds of nutrient needed for the better growth of the crop. It increases soil fertility, crop production and nutrient content of the plants. Integrated fertilizer application will boost the crop and this is the best way to obtain better results and it will decrease the pollution load on our environment. Application of H2O2 also influences the germination, early plant growth and nutrient content. It act as a growth promoter, but the continuous application and accumulation leads to damages, and the disease resistance against pathogens was decreased during the reproductive stages

Dual Nationality of the Ships and its Legal Impact

    Get PDF
The international conventions for high seas had provided that each ship must have one flag only and must not change its flag during the voyage or for any reason. However, in the last years many ships have infringed this rule and had registered with other states that had allowed any foreign ships to register in their ports. These states are an open registry states, which are known as 'Flag of Convenience' states. This change of the flag during the voyage, which caused a lot of problems, was for a political and economic reasons either to make their own profit or to avoid their flag state fees. Notably, such phenomenon is considered as a maritime fraud, which will impact the maritime world and disseminate chaos on the high seas. For these reasons, this paper will highlight the duplication of the nationality for the ships issue and analyse the effects of this negative behaviour.Â
