The Impact of Geo-Spatial Distribution of Markets on Household Travel Patterns in Akure Metropolis, Nigeria
This study examines the spatial distribution of markets and its impact on household travel patterns in Akure, Nigeria. Both primary and secondary data were utilized for the research. The coordinates of locations of markets were obtained using a hand held Geographical Position System (GPS) and determined by measured using the ‘Ruler’ menu of ArcGIS 10.3.1 software. A structured questionnaire was designed to elicit information on household travel patterns. Using descriptive and inferential statistics, the findings reveal that market is randomly distributed. A linear association exits between distance travel to market and household mode choice of transportation and it is significant at 0.05%. Inadequate transport services and traffic congestion are problems faced by households in Akure on their trips to markets. The study concludes that more periodic or daily markets should be provided in some localities that do not have in Akure and similar other cities in Nigeria

Covid-19 Crisis and Environmental Law: Opportunities and Challenges
With the outbreak of Covid-19 globally, many measures were taken to reduce this epidemic’s effects. The most important of these was the advice to stay home, which became the main line of witness slogans. With this recommendation, schools, offices, and factories were closed. The Covid-19 epidemic has had a profound effect on people’s lifestyles and is likely to have other consequences. The article’s main question is: What opportunities and challenges do the Covid epidemic pose to the environment, and how does it affect environmental rights? Quarantine policies have led to reduced production and transportation and a significant reduction in the pollution caused by these behaviors. Other effects may become apparent immediately. Covid-19 may increase survival damage in the future against contamination. Other developments may occur, including rethinking environmental and economic values and rethinking how resources are allocated and consumed, as Covid-19 affects the global, national, and local economies. Considering each of these consequences and their effects can help to develop environmental law and formulate effective strategies
MAKING A LIVING ON CORAL ATOLL: CHANGING STRATEGIES AMONG MILLENNIALS ON BALOBALOANG ISLAND, SOUTH SULAWESI, INDONESIA
Beginning around 2014, some significant changes in the livelihoods among many younger men from the Island of Balobaloang, South Sulawesi, Indonesia, emerged.  This study describes and explains how it is that approximately 50 working-age adult men (out of a total population of about 900) have turned away from interisland shipping and trade and artisanal fishing and toward wage employment aboard tourist ships, working out of distant ports in Indonesia.  This case study uses a qualitative approach to explore and describe the socio-economic life of community members on the island village of Greater Balobaloang as they continue to be affected by economic and environmental changes.  Field data collection was carried out through observation, government documents, and in-depth interviews with respondents.  In particular, this study focuses on the adaptive strategies of younger men as opportunities for making a living have shifted in recent years away from artisanal fishing and interisland shipping and trade to adventure travel aboard modified traditional sailing ships.  It contributes to discussions of internal skilled migration, social mobility and adaptation to the domestic and international tourist industry. Â
ENERGIZING COMMUNITIES THROUGH PARTNERSHIPS WITH EXTERNAL ACTORS: SMALL-SCALE HYDROPOWER PROJECTS IN JAPAN
This study aims to specify the contextual conditions that allow for the success of community renewable energy projects, against the background of the expanding use of renewable energy. It analyzes cases where farmers invested in organizations to establish ownership of hydropower plants in the Chugoku region, Japan. Community renewable energy projects derived from local initiatives to provide an alternative energy resource and serve as a catalyst for rural development. However, the costs of small hydropower plant construction and the expert knowledge required for their operation could hinder the diffusion of the technology. Population decline and aging in rural communities also constrain the development of community renewable energy projects. This study presents cases that illuminate the conditions enabling these organizations to succeed in securing the necessary resources for the operation of their renewable energy plants. The survey illustrates how studied organizations have opted to collaborate with external actors to construct or refurbish their plants. The findings indicate that as building partnerships with external actors often becomes essential, it is vital to develop a business-minded framework in which both communities and external actors can financially benefit from introducing small hydropower projects. The cases also reveal that in building collaborative relationships, broad disparities exist between communities and external actors in financial power and expert knowledge, which give the latter substantial advantages in negotiations. An additional important claim derived is that, for an effective partnership that enables a successful community renewable energy project, a third party with expert knowledge and the ability to audit partnership-building processes could play a crucial role in securing community initiatives and independence
THE SHIFT FROM THE RURAL LIVELIHOOD IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM TO A MOVEMENT IN JAPAN
Rural communities have long endured poverty, and they continue to tackle the problems of depopulation, a declining birth rate, and an aging population in Japan. Some rural communities face a crisis of survival. The question of this study are how sustainable communities in rural areas are being created. This study examine the process by which rural women have transformed the Livelihood Improvement Program (LIP) into a movement. The process was to expand rural women’s activities to enable them to play an active role in their family, women’s groups, and their community. This expansion reflects the effects of the LIP in rural areas. The LIP was started by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry in Japan in 1948 to develop self- reliant farmers. The women tried to find solutions to their problems using LIP approaches including problem-solving and the three-by-five cognitive method in group discussions. The LIP was a long-term program and officially ended in 2004. However, the LIP has been continued as a movement for the sustainable development of their community by the women. This study focuses on a case study at the community level involving an update of the LIP program in Yamaguchi Prefecture. The analysis is based on a literature review, secondary and historical data, and fieldwork carried out between 2004 and 2020. From a medium- to long-term viewpoint, their self-confidence improved and they became self-reliant famers. Now women in the older generations are creating employment opportunities through community businesses so that the younger generations may choose to remain in the rural areas in the future. There has been an increasing tendency for young people who moved to the cities to study or work to return to their hometowns. This study found that the most important aspects in susutainable community development are people’s initiative, identity, and pride
Non-Halal Aspects on Company listed in the Jakarta Islamic Index
Abstract. This study aims to measure the effect of non-halal transactions such as interest-based debt and non-halal income on firm value companies listed in the Jakarta Islamic Index. The sample used in this study were companies listed in Jakarta Islami Index 2015-2019. Data processing uses SPSS and results that interest-based debt and non-halal income partially and simultaneously have a negative relationship with firm value. This shows that Islamic values have become a consideration for investors in the ratification of the Islamic stock exchange in Indonesia
ORGANIZATIONAL LEARNING CULTURE AS MODERATOR ON THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN TRANSFORMATIONAL LEADERSHIP AND AFFECTIVE COMMITMENT
The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of organizational learning culture as moderator on the relationship between transformational leadership and affective commitment. Framework in this study use Social Exchange Theory to explain the moderation effect and we argue that the relationship between transformational leadership and affective commitment is strengthened by organizational learning culture. Data were collected by administering questionnaires to the respondents using both offline and online survey on employees from startup companies in Indonesia (N = 73). This study using self-report method and data were analyzed using Hayes’ PROCESS macro on SPSS software. Results showed that organizational learning culture moderated the relationship between transformational leadership and affective commitment, such that the relationship was increased when organizational learning culture was high than when organizational learning culture was low. Moreover, theoretical and practical implications are given to improvement of employees’ affective commitment
Cooperative Observation with Prediction Of Targets Position Moving Over A Fully Observable Planar Graph
Consider ateam with two types of agents: targets and observers. Observers are aerial UAVs that observe targetsmoving on land with their movements restricted to the paths that form a planar graph on the surface. Observershave limited range of vision and targets donot avoid observers. The objective is to maximize the integral of thenumber of targets observed in the observation interval. Taking advantage of the fact that the future positions oftargets in the short term are predictable, we show in this article a modified hill climbing algorithm that surpassesits previous versions in this new setting of the CTO problem
DETERMINANTS OF CAPACITY BUILDING NEEDS OF ARTISANAL FISHERS IN KOGI STATE, NIGERIA
Nigerians are high fish consumers as the per capita consumption is 14.9 kg per year and has the largest market for fish and fishery products in Africa. Artisanal fishers provide fish for large proportion of fish consumed by our teeming population. These set of fishers depend on crude gears and technology and small vessels in capturing multiple fish species. This study examined the determinants of the capacity building needs of artisanal fishers in Kogi State, Nigeria. The study used primary data. The primary data were collected using structured questionnaire. Multistage sampling technique was use to select the respondents. A total number of 292 respondents were selected for the study. Data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean and Binary Logistic Regression. The results showed that more than half (71.6%) of the respondents had low knowledge level and majority (87.0%) of the respondents had high capacity building needs. The educational status (p<0.10), years of experience in fishing activities (p<0.10), contacts with extension services (p<0.01) and craft type (p<0.05) are the determinants factors of capacity building needs of the artisanal fishers. The study concluded that the majority of the fisher folks had low knowledge level on fishing practices. Majority of the fisher folks had high capacity building needs. The study therefore recommends the provision of training in the areas of high capacity building needs and that there should be consideration of factors influencing the capacity building needs of artisanal fisher folks during the planning and implementation of any training programme on artisanal fisheries
