Tailoring the physical properties of ultrasonically spray pyrolyzed SnS thin films with silver doping

    No full text
In this study, the effects of silver (Ag) doping on the structural, morphological, optical, and electrical properties of tin monosulfide (SnS) thin films were investigated. The films, undoped and doped with 3%, 6%, and 9% Ag, were deposited using the ultrasonic spray pyrolysis (USP) technique at a substrate temperature of 350 degrees C. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis confirmed a pi-SnS (cubic) structure with (400) preferred orientation for undoped and <= 6% Ag-doped films, while 9% doping induced amorphization due to severe lattice distortions. Morphological analyses revealed smooth, void-free surfaces, with average roughness increasing from 5.8 nm (undoped) to 19.6 nm (9% doping). Optical measurements showed that the band gap widened from 1.84 eV (undoped) to 2.47 eV (9% Ag-doped), and Urbach energy increased from 190 meV to 600 meV. Hall effect measurements confirmed p-type conductivity for all films. Resistivity ranged from 4.34 x 10(5) Omega cm to 9.48 x 10(5) Omega cm, carrier concentration varied between 2.7 x 10(12) cm(-3) and 5.6 x 10(12) cm(-3), while mobility decreased from 3.3 x 10(1) cm(2)/Vs to 2.0 x 10(1) cm(2)/Vs with increasing Ag doping. These findings demonstrate that Ag doping significantly influences the structural and optoelectronic behavior of SnS thin films, making them promising candidates for thin-film solar cells and optoelectronic applications.anakkale Onsekiz Mart niversitesi [FHD-2021-3484]; Canakkale Onsekiz Mart University Scientific Research Projects CommitteeThis work was supported by the Canakkale Onsekiz Mart University Scientific Research Projects Committee under the project number FHD-2021-3484. This study aims to examine the use of e-portfolios in early childhood education from the perspectives of teachers' experiences and practices. The research was designed as a qualitative study using a case study model. Initially, pre-use interviews were conducted to identify teachers' predictions regarding the e-portfolio process. Subsequently, the use of the MiniPort platform, designed as an e-portfolio environment, was observed for eight weeks. Interviews were conducted during and after this period to explore their experiences and perspectives on the process. User activities on MiniPort were analyzed through document analysis, while observation and interview data were analyzed using content analysis. Teachers and researcher journals were also maintained and analyzed to support observational data. The pre-use interview analyses revealed that teachers anticipated e-portfolios to support children's active participation but also foresaw potential challenges in parent interactions. Analysis of user activities on MiniPort demonstrated that teachers' usage strategies influenced their interactions with parents and exhibited tendencies toward both process-oriented and product-oriented documentation. Delegating child participation mainly to at-home activities and parents limited MiniPort's child-centered pedagogical potential. However, children's awareness of the process and their interest in documentation positively contributed to their participation. While MiniPort significantly enhanced pedagogical documentation and teacher-parent-child interactions, workload and technical challenges emerged as key limitations. The findings underscore the need for improved technical infrastructure and the development of applications that better support child participation. The fact that children's participation is often facilitated through parents and remains weak in classroom processes highlights a discrepancy between teachers' positive perceptions of the e-portfolio process and their awareness of the importance of child participation versus their actual implementation practices. This finding highlights the need for more holistic and practical strategies to enhance child participation. Overall, the findings indicate that e-portfolios hold significant potential to support product-oriented documentation, enrich parent and child engagement, and contribute to early childhood education practices

Refugee narratives in contemporary Turkish literature: a human-centered exploration

    No full text
The experiences of refugees have recently become a key theme in modern Turkish literature, as the refugee “crisis” has turned into a central issue for Turkey since the 2010s. This article explores contemporary Turkish literature’s engagement with the refugee experience and demonstrates how refugee narratives in Turkish literature transcend ideological divides to emphasize the human dimension of displacement. Through an analysis of three literary texts, Hakan Günday’s Daha (2013), Zülfü Livaneli’s Balıkçı ve Oğlu (2021), and Cemal Şakar’s “Kanadında Bir Kuşun” (2018), the article fleshes out the alignment of Turkish authors, both secular and conservative, in their thematic portrayal of refugees. By categorizing the selected texts as examples of contemporary refugee literature, the article also investigates their contribution to a broader literary tradition that has historically dealt with themes of displacement and suffering, thereby enriching the discourse on human dignity and social justice in the context of forced migration.Sahinbey Municipality, GaziantepWe gratefully acknowledge the support of Sahinbey Municipality, Gaziantep, which funded this article under the project Cagdas Tuerk Edebiyat & imath;nda Muelteci Anlat & imath;lar & imath;: Goec, Kimlik ve Aidiyet (Refugee Narratives in Contemporary Turkish Literature: Migration, Identity, and Belonging)

    No full text
The relationship between total length (TL) and total weight (TW) and the morphometric relationships of the otolith between total length and otolith length (OL), total length and otolith weight (OW) and otolith length and otolith weight of Hoplostethus mediterraneus were examined in Saros Bay, North Aegean Sea, T & uuml;rkiye. The samples were collected with commercial trawls in Saros Bay from September 2006 to September 2008. A total of 970 specimens were caught at depths of 100-500 m. The average value of fish length was 11.86 +/- 0.14 cm (4.0-22.1 cm), and weight 32.2 +/- 1.0 g (0.83-148.75 g). Otolith size was measured with a minimum of 4.31 mm and a maximum of 12.88 mm. The relationships between TL and TW, OW and OL, OL and TL, OW and TL and OW and OL were determined as TW = 0.010*TL3.10 (r2 = 0.99), OW = 0.0004*OL2.64 (r2 = 0.99), OL = 0.055*TL + 0.564 (r2 = 0.98), OW = 0.0002*TL2.38 (r2 = 0.98), and OW = 0.0004*OL2.64 (r2 = 0.99). The high correlation coefficients (r(2) values) demonstrate the reliability of the established equations, offering a robust framework for estimating the size and weight of this species based on otolith measurements. This study provides crucial insights into the growth patterns and morphometric relationships of Hoplostethus mediterraneus, which can be used to enhance fishery management and conservation efforts in Saros Bay.Republic of Trkiye Ministry of Industry and Technology [106Y035]; TUBITAKThe present was carried out with financial support of TUBITAK 106Y035. Soil-driven terroir: Impacts on Vitis vinifera L. 'Karasakiz' wine quality and phenolic composition

    No full text
'Karasakiz' (Vitis vinifera L.), is a local red grape variety native to Çanakkale, a province of Türkiye. This work aimed to characterize the phenolic profile of Karasakiz red wines and mainly investigate the effects of soil characteristics on the phenolic composition, antioxidant capacity, and color properties of the red wines produced. The study was conducted on three vineyards located in three different regions of Çanakkale, each with distinct chemical properties and textural characteristics, over two consecutive vintages (2019 and 2020). The phenolic profiles and color properties of red wines varied depending on the year and region, and were strongly influenced by soil texture. A strong correlation (r = 0.897 and P < 0.0001) was found between the percentage of sand in the soil and the total monomeric anthocyanin content of the wines. Total monomeric anthocyanin contents of Karasakiz wines ranged from 15.76 mg/L to 68.87 mg/L, while total phenolics ranged from 1238 mg/L to 1950 mg/L, with variations observed depending on the region and year. Additionally, a high positive correlation was observed between potassium concentration and the concentrations of ferulic acid and catechin in the wines. This study reveals the characteristic properties and phenolic composition of Karasakiz wines from different sub-regions, highlighting significant correlations in terms of the soil-wine relationship.Canakkale Onsekiz Mart University the Scientific Research Coordination Unit [FHD-2020-3241]This study is a part of Nesrin Merve CELEBIcenter dot UZKUC 's PhD thesis supervised by Ays,eguel KIRCA TOKLUCU. Although there were performances (mimus) similar to pantomime in the Greek world, the first appearance of pantomime as an art form is the Roman Imperial Period. The first representatives of pantomime, which began to be seen in 23-22 BC, during the reign of Augustus, were Pylades of Cilicia and Bathyllus of Alexandria. The rise of pantomime with the Pax Romana is associated with the public's boredom with war and tragedy. The most intense and popular period of pantomime events, which would last for about 700 years, began after 438 AD, when gladiatorial performances were banned. Pantomime performances were held not only in theatres, but also on the streets and at private events. Pantomime began to take place at major festivals during the reign of Augustus. The subjects of pantomime are usually Greek myths, historical events and librettos written by special authors. When the pantomime was performed on stage, a choir took place right behind the mime actors. Mime artists used unique costumes. At the same time, mime artists used masks. The mask is considerably different from other theatre masks. The mouth of the mask is usually closed or slightly open. The mime artist or dancer did not use only one mask. They were playing different roles in the play with different masks. Costume and music have an important place in pantomime. From the writings of ancient authors and archaeological finds, we have information about the musical instruments and costumes used in pantomime performances. Tibia, scabellum, syrinx, kithara, cymbal, tympanum and hydraulis are the musical instruments used in pantomime performances. We have general information about pantomimes from mosaics, wall paintings, terracotta figurines and masks, sarcophagi, wall paintings, reliefs and daily use items

Tannic acid-based bio-MOFs with antibacterial and antioxidant properties acquiring non-hemolytic and non-cytotoxic characteristics

    No full text
Tannic acid (TA) based bio-metal phenolic networks (bio-MPNs) were prepared by using Cu(II), Zn(II), Bi(III), Ce(III), La(III), and Ti(IV) metal ions. TA-based bio-MPNs exhibited wedge-shaped pores between 16.4 and 25.8 nm pore size ranges. The higher gravimetric yield% was achieved for TA-Bi(III), and TA-Ti(IV) bio-MPNs with more than 90 %, and higher surface area was observed for TA-La(IIII) bio-MPNs as 56.2 m(2)/g with 17.3 nm average pore sizes. All TA-based MPNs are non-hemolytic with less than 5 % hemolysis ratio, whereas TA-based Bio-MPNs do not affect blood clotting with > 90 % blood clotting indexes except for TA-Cu(II) Bio-MPNs at 0.1 mg/mL concentration. Moreover, TA-Bi(III) and TA-Ce(III) Bio-MPNs were found to be safer materials showing no significant toxicity on L929 fibroblast cells at 100 mu g/mL concentration, along with TA-based Bio-MPNs prepared with Cu(II), Zn(II), La(III), and Ti(IV) metal ions that could be safely used in in vivo applications at 1 mu g/mL concentration. It has been proven by 2 different antioxidant tests that the prepared TA-based Bio-MPNs show antioxidant properties even if their TA-derived antioxidant properties decrease. Furthermore, all types of TA-based Bio-MPNs show great antimicrobial activity depending on the metal ion or microorganism types and the highest antibacterial/antifungal effect was determined for TA-Cu(II), and TA-Zn(II) Bio-MPNs with the lowest MBC/MFC values against Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 10145, Bacillus subtilis ATCC 6633, and Candida albicans ATCC 10231

The effect of Lymphocyte Monocyte Ratio (LMR) on 30-day mortality of non-HCC post-transplant liver patients admitted to the intensive care unit

Aim: Our study aims to investigate the effect of the LMR value on the 30-day mortality and intensive care hospitalization days of post-transplant liver patients without hepatocellular cancer(HCC) admitted to the intensive care unit(ICU). Methods: Our retrospective study included post-liver transplant patients in the ICU of Dokuz Eylul University Hospital between 2010 and 2020. We recorded patients' age, gender, aetiology of liver disease, donor type (living or deceased), duration of cold ischemia, scores, hospitalization days in the ICU, and 30-day mortality. LMR was calculated by dividing the patient's lymphocyte count by the monocyte count. Statistical analyses were performed using SPSS software version 24.0. Results: 128 (92 male, 36 female) patients were included in our study. Twenty-four patients died within 30 days. The mean LMR was 1.498±2.134, and no significant difference existed between those with and without 30-day mortality (p=0.995). LMR value was not a predictor of mortality and ICU hospitalization days in these patients. Conclusion: Our study revealed that LMR does not predict mortality or hospitalization days in post-liver transplant patients without HCC. The results of our study and previous studies suggest that LMR alteration is associated with an immune state produced by the tumour microenvironment. Our findings suggest that LMR may not be a valuable biomarker for predicting patient outcomes in post-liver transplant patients without HCC. However, this study provides a starting point for further investigation into the role of LMR in cancer diseases
