Influence of propolis extract in Hubbard JV chickens nutrition on oxidative stabilty of meat

June 2014In the experiment we evaluated the influence of propolis extract in nutrition of chickens on stability of meat in the most valuable parts of carcass that were stored by freezing at -18 °C. The hybrid combination of tested chickens was Hubbard JV. Propolis extract was added to experimental groups at a dose of 600 mg.kg-1 (group E1) and 800 mg.kg-1 (group E2). Fattening lasted 42 days. Oxidative stability of breast and thigh muscles was evaluated from the 1st day to 6th month of storage in regular month intervals. In the breast muscle, values of malondialdehyde (MDA) were from 0.212 to 0.313 mg.kg-1 in control group, from 0.186 to 0.264 mg.kg-1 in E1 group and from 0.175 to 0.259 mg.kg-1 in E2 group. In the thigh muscle, MDA values were from 0.255 to 0.339 mg.kg-1 (control group), from 0.196 to 0.279 mg.kg-1 (E1 group) and from 0.194 to 0.268 mg.kg-1 (E2 group). Application of propolis extract in Hubbard JV chickens nutrition has significant influence (P≤0.05) on decreasing of oxidative processes in breast and thigh muscles during the whole period of storage.Keywords: chickens, nutrition, feed supplements, propolis, chicken meat, oxidative stability, malondialdehyd
Differences in carcass composition of males and females of two turkeys hybrids

August 2014The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of hybrid and sex on carcass composition in turkeys. A total of 240 turkeys (males and females) of two different hybrids (BUT Big 6 and Converter) were used in experiment. Birds were housed in housing conditions suitable for turkeys. Turkeys were fed ad libitum with commercial feed mixture for given category of turkeys. Six males and six females of each genotype were slaughtered at 17th weeks of age. Live weight and carcass composition were determined. The significant interactions between hybrid and sex were detected in live weight (P≤0.001), carcass weight (P≤0.001) and liver percentage (P≤0.006). The highest live weight and carcass weight was observed in Converter males (17410 g, 13360 g, respectively), while the lowest was detected in Converter females (12115 g, 9390 g, respectively). Converter females had the highest liver share (1.47%), whereas the lowest liver share was noted in BUT Big 6 females (1.20%). The significant effect of hybrid was found in live weight, carcass weight and thigh percentage. The significantly higher live weight (P≤0.003), carcass weight (P≤0.002) and share of thigh (P≤0.010) was detected in BUT Big 6 compare to Converter. Males had significantly higher (P≤0.001) live weight, carcass weight and share of thigh than females.Keywords: turkeys, hybrids, sex, carcass trait
The effect of housing system on egg quality of Lohmann white and Czech hen

June 2014The effect of housing systems (conventional cages and litter) and genotype (Czech hen and Lohmann) on egg quality was investigated. The totals of 1500 eggs were analysed. A significant interaction between housing system and genotype was found in shape index (P ≤ 0.001) and eggshell weight (P ≤ 0.027). The housing system significantly (P ˂ 0.001) affected egg weight. Higher values in Czech hen were detected in litter on other hand in Lohmann were found in cage. Higher egg weight (61.18g vs. 49.19g) and eggshell weight (6.02g vs. 4.79g) was found in Lohmann compared to Czech hen. Shape index (76.46g vs. 75.15g) and deformation (0.31N vs. 0.29N) was higher in eggs from Czech hen compared to Lohmann. Significant interaction between housing system and genotype in albumen weight (P ≤ 0.023), albumen share (P ≤ 0.018), albumen index (P ≤ 0.042) and yolk share (P ≤ 0.034) were detected. Yolk share, yolk index and yolk colour were higher in eggs from Czech hen compared to yolk weight. Keywords: hens, genotype, housing system, egg qualit
The effect of genotype and sex on performance and meat composition of geese

June 2014The aim of study was to compare performance and meat quality between 2 genotypes of geese (Czech Goose CG and Novohradska Goose NG) depending on sex. 1 day old goslings were weighed and divided to 4 groups according to genotype and sex. Weighing and the evidence of feed consumption was conducted weekly. 8 goslings of each group were slaughtered at the age of 56 days, selected slaughter parameters and chemical composition of meat were determined. Significant interactions between genotype and sex were found out in live weight at the age of 1 day of goslings (P < 0.001), final live weight (P < 0.001), daily weight gain (P < 0.001), feed conversion ratio (P < 0.001) and hot carcass weight (P < 0.001). Protein content in meat was significantly (P = 0.025) affected by genotype, with higher values in CG. The effect of growing locality on the nutritive value of maize silage hybrids with various FAO number

April 2014We evaluated the effect of locality on nutritive value of maize silage with various FAO number. There were 8 maize silage hybrids (FAO 220, FAO 230, FAO 260, FAO 280, FAO 390, FAO 450, FAO 550) grown in two similar localities. All 16 groups were cut at milk-wax stage for whole plant silage and ensiled for 1 month in 4 dm3 glasses. Silages were sampled and analyzed for crude protein, NDF, ADL, Starch and IVDMD. There were found significant differences (P<0.05) between localities within the type of hybrid in crude protein content of FAO 280, FAO 360, FAO 450, in ADL content of FAO 230, in NEL content of FAO 280, in DINAG of FAO 230 and FAO 280. When compared all groups, IVDMD of the silage from FAO 450 grown in locality 2 has been found significantly higher (P<0.01) than all silages of locality 1, except FAO 550. Calculated content of NEL 7.24 MJ.kg-1 and value of DINAG 46.8 for FAO 450 were the highest in the experiment.Keywords: forage, maize silage, digestibility, earliness, net energy of lactatio
Short communication to the determination of soil structure

April 2014Soil structure can be evaluated and assessed a number of ways; therefore, sometimes it is very difficult to compare these results. The aim of this study was to examine the water repellency of soil structure in different soils two different ways: 1. Baksheev method and 2. using the AS 200 device. Obtained results showed large differences in size fractions of water stable aggregates dependent on method or device of determination. If we only assessed the vulnerability of soil structure, the results are comparable regardless of what method or device was used.Keywords: soil structure, water stable aggregates, vulnerability of soil structur
The effect of pumpkin and flaxseed oils on selected parameters of laying hens performance

August 2014The aim of the study was to analyze the dietary effect of pumpkin and flaxseed oils on performance parameters of laying hens. Lohmann Brown Lite hens were randomly divided to three groups. Total 12 hens (6 per group) were monitored. Hens in control group (C) were fed by standard diet. First group (E1) was fed by feed mixture supplemented with pumpkin oil, and second group (E2) with flaxseed oil. Total were gained 244 eggs from C, 277 eggs from E1 and 228 eggs from E2. Average daily production was 4.84 eggs per day in control group, 5.31 eggs in first experimental group and 4.39 eggs in second experimental group. Average weight of eggs was 62.88 g in group with standard feed mixture, 64.62 g in group with pumpkin oil supplementation and 65.28 g in group with flaxseed oil supplementation. After oil supplementation, were significant (P0.05). In egg´s production was significant (P<0.05) difference only between experimental groups.Key words: nutrition, additives, oils, eggs, layin
Phenological observatory and the diseases and pests occurence on Prunus L. Taxa in studied localities

April 2014The autochtonous taxa of the genus Prunus L.: Prunus × fruticans, Prunus × fechtneri and Prunus × dominii was chosen for this research: the phenological observations and occurrence pest and diseases. We recorded, that two of studied taxa P. × fruticans and P. × dominii started the first growth phases and P.× fechtneri the last. The longest vegetation period from first phenophase to dormancy (224 days) for P.× fechtneri in 2012 was observed. The shortest vegetation period (209 days) from first phenophases to phenophases flowering for P. × fruticans in 2013 was observed . We recorded the occurrence of insect Cydia funebrana, parasitic lichen Xanthoria parietina and fungal disease Botrytis cinerea. The highest incidence of Cydia funebrana on taxa P.× fechtneri from the locality Bádice and Prunus × dominii from the locality Dolné Lefantovce was recorded. On the shoots of the taxa L2, L3 and P1 the presence of parasitic lichen Xantoria parietina and on the plum P.× fechtneri B fungal disease Botrytis cinerea was observed. Only for the taxa Prunus × fruticans L1 no lichen was recorded. The taxa Prunus × fruticans L1, P1 and Prunus × dominii L2, L3 no fungal disease was show.Key words: phenological observations, phenophases, Prunus taxa, disease, pest
Differences in the eggshell quality and tibia strength in Lohmann White and Czech Hen housed in cages and on litter

August 2014This study investigated the differences in the eggshell quality and the tibia measurements between Lohmann White and Czech Hens housed in conventional cages and on litter system. The significant interactions between genotype and housing system were detected for the egg weight (P≤0.001), the eggshell thickness (P≤0.003) and the tibia strength (P≤0.004). Serum calcium concentration and pore density were not significantly influenced by the interaction of genotype and housing system. Effect of exogenous phytase on egg quality in laying hens

August 2014An experiment was conducted to determine the effect of different levels of exogenous phytase on egg quality in laying hens fed diets with low levels of only plant original phosphorus. Twenty four Lohmann Brown hens at 31 weeks of age were housed in individual cages. In total three experiments were successively carried out with the same laying hens. In all three experiments the same diet with the same content of nutrients were always used. The control diet contained no exogenous phytase. Experimental diets differed in the level and sources of exogenous phytase. Eggs were collected daily during period of the experiment to measure egg quality. Measurement of physical parameters such as egg weight and strength of eggshell were performed daily. Shell weight and shell thickness were determined after washing and drying of shells. The shell thickness was evaluated using the micrometer. Shell proportion was calculated. The addition of phytase (150, 200, 250 and 300 FTU/kg diet) did not affect egg weight. Addition of exogenous phytase at levels 150, 200 and 250 FTU/kg had no significant effect (P>0.05) on eggshell quality. Only addition of both phytases (Natuphos and Optiphos) at the level 300 FTU to the same diet had positive effect on eggshell quality (P<0.05).
