Behavioral psychology study of the main character in Room (2015) film
This study aims to explain the behavior of the main character, Jack, in the film Room (2015) using the behaviorist theories of John B. Watson and B.F. Skinner. The research uses a qualitative descriptive method with a behaviorist psychological approach. Data were collected through repeated viewing of the film, note taking, and identification of behavioralpatterns related to stimulus and response. The analysis focuses on classical conditioning, operant conditioning, and internal factors that influence behavior. The results of the study indicate that Jack’s behavior is shaped by various external stimuli, including conditioned responses to daily routines and social interactions within his limited environment. Operant conditioning is evident through Jack’s behavioral changes in response to consequences and rewards. Additionally, internal factors such as emotions, self-awareness, drives, and goal and intentions play a significant role in Jack’s responses and adaptation to his environment. These findings support the behaviorist perspective that human behavior is shaped and learned through interactions with the environment
Vogler’s Hero’s Journey Representation in Puss in Boots: The Last Wish Film (2022)
This research examines how the hero's journey is represented through the animated Puss in Boots: The Last Wish film that was released in 2022, using Christopher Vogler's hero's journey theory. Vogler's twelve-stage model is used to trace the development of the main character, Puss, and relate each stage to the conflicts that he experienced throughout the journey. This study uses a qualitative method, and the data taken consist of dialogues and scenes of the film. The results of this study show that the Puss in Boots: The Last Wish film represents and follows Vogler's hero's journey through the character of Puss. In the film, Puss had faced ten stages and passed all of them with a character development that showed his transformation from an arrogant and individualistic person to a wise and appreciative figure. Each stage of the hero's journey not only illustrates Puss's transformation but also shows values about courage, friendship, and appreciation of the meaning of life as messages for the audience
The reminding of environmental damage through salience patterns in Lorax (2012) film: An ecolinguistic analysis
This study analyzes the Lorax (2012) film through an ecolinguistic lens, focusing on salience patterns as a reminder of environmental degradation. The film portrays the consequences of excessive exploitation of nature using powerful visual and linguistic narratives. Applying Arran Stibbe’s framework, the research identifies linguistic elements such as activation, concreteness, metaphor, metonymy, hyponymy, and transitivity patterns that emotionally and ideologically highlight environmental issues. The findings reveal that Lorax not only delivers a moral message about the importance of environmental care but also fosters ecological awareness through its language use. This study affirms that ecolinguistics is a potent tool for uncovering hidden ideologies and promoting sustainable behavior through popular media
Ethnobotanical Analysis of Medicinal Plant Utilization by Local Communities
This study aims to analyze the use of medicinal plants by local communities in the Toraut area of Bogani Nani Wartabone National Park, using an ethnobotanical approach. Data were collected through interviews with respondents and analyzed descriptively and quantitatively using the Informant Consensus Factor (ICF) and Fidelity Level (FL). The analysis results showed a very high consensus (ICF = 1.00) across seven disease categories, such as body odor, sore throat, bone fractures, and kidney disease, dominated by certain species such as Forest Betel (Piper caducibracteum), Sesewanua (Clerodendron sp.), and Forest Starfruit (Averrhoa bilimbi). The highest FL value (100%) was found for specific species-benefit pairs, including Kayu Arang (Cratoxylon celebicum) for diarrhea and vomiting and Mayana (Coleus atropurpureus) for increasing stamina. Most species exhibited low to medium FL values, indicating their multi-indication nature. The species with the highest frequency of mention, namely Sesewanua, Forest Betel, Tiger Grass, Forest Starfruit, and Forest Mangosteen, are key plants that play an important role in traditional medicinal practices. These findings emphasize the importance of conservation efforts, pharmacological validation, and preservation of local knowledge to support the sustainable use of medicinal plants
