Ghost sign with severe deterioration. The sign is no longer legible but used to read: 'Tandy Bros. / Decorators & Painting / Contractors'. According to the 1941 and 1951 Kelly's Directory, Tandy Bros Painting Contractors at 16 Lytton Road (Albert Tandy)
Ghost signs for Britain's Heritage and Leicester Children's Holidays on Holy Bones, 2021.
Ghost signs for two different companies: Britain's Heritage and Leicester Children's Holidays. This first advert reads 'Fireplaces / Antique & Reproduction / 4500 sq. ft. of displays / Britain's Heritage' with their telephone. In 2020, both signs were repainted, but only Leicester Children's Holidays changed their design to include a URL. The second sign reads 'Leicester Children's Holiday Home (Mablethorpe)' with their telephone. Britain's Heritage was founded in 1987 and still works as UK specialists in selling and reproducing antique fireplaces. Leicester Children's Holidays was founded in 1898 by Lady Rolleston and Sir John Rolleston as a club for poor and orphaned boys, and eventually girls, where they were taken for holiday to Mablethorpe. Leicester Children's Holidays still functions today, offering support to children across Leicestershire and Rutland, but their Mablethorpe property was sold in 2017

Ghost sign for 'P. Bainbridge Ltd.' and their 'Arch Preserver Shoes'. According to the 1954 Kelly's Directory, P. Bainbridge Ltd, boot and shoe manufacturers, were listed at 61 Britannia Street. The building used to be a boarding house for working men, and the terracotta panels to the left of the ghost sign show national stereotypes from Scotland, Wales, England and Ireland. Ghost sign for The Tree. This sign is made up of two parts, located on brick fence posts. On the left-hand side, the sign reads: 'The Tree' written above a pedestrian gate and 'Check out our... Secret Garden / Access via High St.' on the fence post. On the right-hand side, the sign reads: 'Vegan Menu / Craft Beer / Cocktails / Live Music'. The Tree is a crafty pub located on High Street, but this sign is located at the rear entrance

Ghost signs for The Bull's Head. This sign is made up of three parts. The first, located on the side wall of the building, reads: 'Local & Craft Ales / Quality Food/ Served Daily / Courtyard Garden'. The second sign is difficult to see in this photo, but also reads: 'Local & Craft Ales / Quality Food/ Served Daily / Courtyard Garden'. The last sign is located on the other side of the building (not visible in this photo but available to view in our 2024 entry) is the logo for the pub, a bull's head and the words ' Food' and 'Ales' on either side. These signs were painted between 2019 and 2021 whereas the side wall had a ghost sign of the Everards logo before. The Bull's Head is an Everards pub

A ghost sign on the corner of Westbourne Street and Belgrave Road that reads 'Archer / Late Beckett / Hay / Straw / Corn'. This was revealed only briefly in spring 2021 before being painted over
Ghost sign for 'Hassell', a house painter, on Clarendon Park Road, 2021.
Ghost sign reading '... Hassell / House Painter / ...'. This sign is tough to read and might refer to C.H. Hassell, one of two signs in the collection for the same firm, or 'T.E. Hassell', another Leicestershire painter. The 1908 and 1925 Kelly’s Directory list Charles H. Hassell, painter, at 16 Lytton Road and Thomas E. Hassell at 107 Clarendon Park Road. The 1936 Kelly’s Directory has Charles H. Hassell, painter and decorator, at both 16 Lytton Road and 93 Carisbrooke Road and Thomas Ezra Hassell, painter is listed at 687 Welford Road

Ghost sign for Ansells advertising Double Diamond, a pale ale first brewed by Allsopps, above an off licence. During the 1960s, Double Diamond received a lot of advertising hence the many ghost signs in our collection.
Ansell's Brewery was founded in 1857 by Joseph Ansell, becoming Joseph Ansell and Sons in 1889. By 1934 and after merging with Holt Brewery Co., Ansells became one of the largest UK regional breweries and adopted Holt's signature red squirrel emblem. In 1961, Ansells merged with Tetley Walker and Ind Coope to form Allied Breweries, and in 1992, Carlsberg UK merged with Allied Breweries to become Carlsberg-Tetley.
Originally, Double Diamond was brewed by Allsopps in the 19th century until it came under the ownership of Ind Coope Ltd in 1934. In the 1950s, it was the UK's best-selling bottled beer and one of the most successful draught keg bitters of the 1960s and '70s

Ghost sign for 'The Plough Inn'. The sign is severely deteriorated and a previous layer of green has revealed itself. The Plough Inn is a Marston's pub and is still open today
