Ghost signs for The Bell Inn on the corner of High Street and Bell Lane in Husbands Bosworth, 2022.
Ghost signs for The Bell Inn. There are two different signs present. The first, facing High Street, reads: 'The Bell Inn' with a large image of a bell. The second, facing Bell Lane, reads: 'The Bell Inn / Letting Rooms / Craft & Cask Ales / Great Food / Beer Garden to Rear / Car Park'. There is a small arrow to the right of the words 'Car Park' pointing right, and just below the company name is their signature bell logo. These signs were painted between 2018 and 2021. The Bell Inn is a traditional pub with bed and breakfast

Ghost sign for Phipps & Co. Ltd on the Graziers Arms Pub. The sign reads: 'P. Phipps & Cos. Ales and Stouts. Northampton'.
Founded in 1801 by Pickering Phipps, Phipps & Co. began brewing in Northampton in 1817. In 1960, the company was acquired by Watney Mann Ltd. with 1,171 houses. In 1974, Carlsberg took possession of the brewery, but Phipps was no longer being brewed. However, in 2004, Phipps became independent again under the name Phipps Northampton Brewery Co., rebrewing their IPA, and in 2014, Phipps returned to the Albion Brewery with the Phipps family rejoining the business and gin production beginning again.
In 2024 this was repainted as part of Harborough Council's aim of maintaining ghost signs across the Harborough district (see Market Harborough also)

Ghost sign that reads 'E Squires / The Handy Stores'. In 1916, Arthur Farmer is in Kelly's directory as a greengrocer at 97 Vulcan Road, but by 1928 the shop is being run by Ernest Squires, also listed as a greengrocer

Ghost sign for Shipstone's Brewery, one of the company's three signs in the collection.
Shipstone's Brewery was founded by James Shipstone in 1852 at the Star Brewery in New Basford, Nottingham. By 1939, the company owned 550 licensed premises, thirty diesel lorries for long distance delivery work and fifty horses for local delivery work. The company was purchased by Greenall's of Warrington in 1978, continuing to produce the beer until 1991 when production was ended. However, in 2015, Little Star Brewery began producing Shipstone's again after 24 years using the archived recipes

Ghost sign for 'Ansells' and 'Leicester Brewing & Malt' (LBM) on the corner of Leopold Road and Fleetwood Road, 2021.
Ghost sign for 'Ansells' and 'Leicester Brewing & Malt' (LBM). There are two layers to this sign. On the first layer, a sign for the Leicester Brewing & Malt (LBM) Eagle Brewery. The LBM sign uses their signature design: the letters LBM written diagonally from left to right. The words 'Eagle Brewery' and 'Gold Medal Ales' are also faintly visible. The most recent layer is a sign advertising Ansells (who bought the LBM) with the tagline 'The better beer'.
Ansell's Brewery was founded in 1857 by Joseph Ansell, becoming Joseph Ansell and Sons in 1889. By 1934 and after merging with Holt Brewery Co., Ansells became one of the largest UK regional breweries and adopted Holt's signature red squirrel emblem. In 1961, Ansell's merged with Tetley Walker and Ind Coope to form Allied Breweries, and in 1992, Carlsberg UK merged with Allied Breweries to become Carlsberg-Tetley

Ghost sign for Shepshed Lace Manufacturing Co. Ltd. This sign is quite large and difficult to capture in its entirety, but depicts the company's name. The far-right of the sign previously depicted smaller text, but it has deteriorated too read. Based on previous entries available to view in our collection, the only visible element of the far-right were the numbers '616'. A window added some time before 2002 partially destroyed the far left of the sign.
There is evidence from the Britain from Above project to suggest Shepshed Lace was located in this building as early as 1928, and Grace's Guide references a 1918 directory citing Shepshed Lace in Loughborough. Grace's Guide also references the company from the 1937 'Institution of Mechanical Engineers: Visits to Works', saying: the company was 'established in 1906 by Mr. George William Price, of Nottingham. There are about 1,200 machines of the circular type in the works at Loughborough. A variety of laces is made and delivered direct to many foreign countries'

Ghost sign for 'Gamble', a potential shoe dealer. The sign is severely deteriorated, so the lettering is difficult to make out. 'Gamble', 'Quality Value' and 'Shoes' are just a few of the words still visible. There were several boot and shoe manufacturers of the name Gamble located in Leicester, so this sign may belong to one of them, including John Gamble Ltd. or B. Gamble Ltd. John Gamble Ltd. has a ghost sign in our collection. Between 2009 and 2010, the sign was covered by a modern poster sign, and while the modern sign has changed over time, the ghost sign remains covered

Ghost signs for 'Leicester Co-Operative Society Ltd. Stables' with offices on Union Street. According to the 1932 ,1941 and 1954 Kelly's Directory, the Co-operative Society Ltd. operated both offices and slaughterhouses. These images include two No-Smoking signs and a contextual shot of the stables
