Power Relations between Tuan Guru and Sultan in the Malay World: Source of the Tuan Guru Manuscript (TGM)
This article examines the power relations between Tuan Guru and the Malay Sultans. Power relations are not only in relations between people and authority but relations that support and strengthen each other’s existence. This research raises how the power relations between Tuan Guru and the Malay Sultans were formed. The Tuan Guru Manuscript (TGM) written by Tuan Guru ‘Abd al-Wahhab Rokan was used as the main source to answer the research questions. This manuscript is important because it is Tuan Guru’s letter and notes to the Sultan of Langkat. The results of this research explain that the power relations formed between Tuan Guru and the Sultans have supported the spread of the Tarekat Naqsyabandiyah-Khalidiyah Babussalam (TNKB) in the Malay world. Then, power relations have also impacted the establishment of a tarekat village. It was supported by the Sultan by providing land and other supporting facilities
Symbolic Reverence: An Ethnographic Study on the Tonggoluan and Pusi’ Death Rituals Within Bolaang Mongondow Society Through Victor Turner's Perspective
This ethnography study investigates the sociocultural significance of the Tonggoluan and Pusi’ death rituals that persist in Bolaang Mongondow society despite the threat of modernity. Current understanding ignores its ontological role in preserving the existence of Bolaang Mongondow, so this research aims to explain these traditions as a basis for identity formation and social reproduction through the lens of Victor Turner's symbolic anthropology. Using a rigorous ethnographic field study, data was collected through in-depth interviews and observation of six elders in Bolaang Mongondow. These findings reveal that Tonggoluan graves encapsulate the eternal spiritual connection between living and deceased ancestors. Its sacralization reflects a strong belief in a metaphysical realm that upholds the collective memory of this community. Meanwhile, wearing Pusi’ mourning clothes symbolizes sadness and passing down cultural values from generation to generation. This ritual also builds communal solidarity during mourning, reaffirming Bolaang Mongondow's identity. Essentially, these two traditions combine the temporary and the eternal through the creative reproduction of meaning, forming the basis of local existence. Therefore, maintaining this death ceremony amidst the erosion of modern culture is very important to ensure the continuity of the unique identity of this indigenous community. This encourages a deeper global appreciation of the role of death rituals in strengthening the cultural vitality of the Bolaang Mongondow community group
NALAR TEOLOGIS THAIFUR ALI WAFA AL-MADURI DALAM FIRDAUS AL-NA‘IM BI TAUDIHI MA‘ANI AYAT AL-QUR’AN AL-KARIM
This paper analyzes the interpretation of theological verses in tafsir Firdaws al-Na'im by Thaifur Ali Wafa al-Maduri. The author is a representation of Madurese religious authority because of his capacity as a pesantren cleric, mursyid tarekat, and structural NU figure in Sumenep. The research methods used in writing this article are library research and content analysis. By using critical discourse analysis, the results of this study show that the ideological tendency in Firdaws al-Na'im's interpretation can be seen from his interpretation of sensitive issues such as the theology of ru'yatullah, intercession, absolute will and justice of God. This tendency is due to the author's background as a local activist in Islamic boarding schools and traditional religious education that carries the ideology of Ahlussunnah wa al-Jama'ah. Thaifur Ali Wafa's scientific network that is connected to Middle Eastern scholars also strengthens this reason. This research is significant to portray how the intellectual relationship between Madurese Muslims and Middle Eastern Ulama has played an important role in bringing religious views and interpretations from the Middle East to the archipelago, including Madura.Keywords: Tafsir, Ideology, Thaifur Ali Wafa, Firdaws al-Na'imAbstrak: Tulisan ini menganalisis penafsiran ayat-ayat teologi dalam Firdaws al-Na‘im bi Tawdih Ma‘ani Ayat al-Qur’an al-Karim karya Thaifur Ali Wafa al-Maduri. Penulisnya adalah representasi dari otoritas keulamaan Madura karena kapasitasnya sebagai kiai pesantren, mursyid tarekat, dan tokoh NU Struktural di Sumenep. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penulisan artikel ini adalah library research dan content analysis. Dengan menggunakan analisis wacana kritis, hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa kecenderungan ideologis dalam tafsir Firdaws al-Na’i>m dapat dilihat dari penafsirannya tentang isu-isu sensitif seperti teologi ru’yatullah, syafaat, kehendak mutlak dan keadilan Tuhan. Kecenderungannya terhadap Teologi Sunni ini disebabkan oleh latar kehidupan penulisnya sebagai aktifis lokal Islam pesantren dan pendidikan agama tradisional yang mengusung ideologi Ahlussunnah wa al-Jama’ah. Jaringan keilmuan Thaifur Ali Wafa yang terhubung dengan Ulama Timur Tengah juga memperkuat alasan tersebut. Penelitian ini signifikan untuk memotret bagaimana hubungan intelektual antara Muslim Madura dan Ulama Timur Tengah telah memainkan peran penting dalam membawa pandangan dan interpretasi keagamaan dari Timur Tengah ke wilayah Nusantara, termasuk Madura.Kata Kunci: Tafsir, Teologi, Thaifur ‘Ali Wafa, Firdaws al-Na‘i
THE SHIFT OF ISLAMISM INTO NEOFUNDAMENTALISM AND ITS IMPACT ON ISLAMIC POLITICAL DYNAMICS
Abstract: This article discusses the shift from Islamism to Neo-fundamentalism. Where the term Islamism here is often referred to as Political Islam. Islamism is a movement that makes Islam the basis of its struggle, including organizing the government. Islamism aims to revive Islamic law. But this reemergence of Islamism is not an emergence by Faith but by political claims. Islamism here longs for a historical revival and the glory of Islam, but this endeavor is a fabricated tradition. The emergence of Islamism in Islamic politics is a response to the existence of modernity understood as Western and foreign because it fails to fulfill Islamic interests as understood by Islamism. This failure of Islamism led to a shift towards Neo-fundamentalism towards the end of the 1980s. The neo-fundamentalism movement is very anti-Western. However, militant Islamic groups that previously fought for Islamic revolution shifted to be involved in re-Islamization from below.Key Words: Muslim Brotherhood, Islamism, Olivier Roy, Neofundamentalis
THE ROAD TO MINAHASA: THE EARLY ARRIVAL AND TRADITIONS OF BANTEN MUSLIMS IN TOMOHON'S JAVANESE VILLAGE
Abstract: The research on the early arrival of the Muslim community in Tomohon Javanese Village (Kampung Jawa Tomohon) has its own story, unlike the Muslim community in Kampung Jawa Tondano Minahasa, which was pioneered by Kiyai Mojo and his followers in 1829. In the Tomohon area, Islam was allegedly introduced by several people from the sultanate of Banten. This research aims to investigate how the early arrival of Banten Muslims introduced Islam in Tomohon. This research uncovered the story of who and how the Banten Muslims first arrived. Method of research using observation, document study and in-depth interviews with key informants. This research found that Tubagus Buang was a pioneer also as the leader of the first group of Banten Muslims to arrive in Tomohon Minahasa. He was a mysterious figure. Tubagus Buang's grave is still believed by the residents of Sarongsong Javanese village to be in their area, namely Kalapa Empat. In the Sarongsong District they settled in the Kayu Payung area. For a long time in the area they chose to procreate through marriage with Minahasa women. In addition, the typical Islamic traditions in Tomohon Javanese Village come from the tariqat tradition inherited from Banten, such as the Lebaran Ketupat celebration and Rudat art. There has not been much writing on the history of Tomohon Javanese Village.Key Words : Kampung Jawa Tomohon, Tubagus Buang, Minahasa MuslimsAbstrak: Penelitian mengenai awal mula kedatangan komunitas Muslim di Kampung Jawa Tomohon memiliki cerita tersendiri, berbeda dengan komunitas Muslim di Kampung Jawa Tondano Minahasa yang dipelopori oleh Kiyai Mojo dan para pengikutnya pada tahun 1829. Di daerah Tomohon, Islam diduga diperkenalkan oleh beberapa orang dari kesultanan Banten. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana awal mula kedatangan Muslim Banten memperkenalkan Islam di Tomohon. Penelitian ini mengungkap kisah tentang siapa dan bagaimana Muslim Banten pertama kali datang. Metode penelitian menggunakan observasi, studi dokumen dan wawancara mendalam dengan narasumber. Penelitian ini menemukan bahwa Tubagus Buang adalah seorang perintis sekaligus pemimpin kelompok pertama Muslim Banten yang tiba di Tomohon Minahasa. Ia adalah sosok yang misterius. Makam Tubagus Buang masih diyakini oleh warga kampung Jawa Sarongsong berada di wilayah mereka, yaitu Kalapa Empat. Di Kecamatan Sarongsong mereka bermukim di daerah Kayu Payung. Sejak lama di daerah tersebut mereka memilih beranak pinak melalui pernikahan dengan perempuan Minahasa. Selain itu, tradisi Islam yang khas di Kampung Jawa Tomohon berasal dari tradisi tarekat yang diwarisi dari Banten, seperti perayaan Lebaran Ketupat dan kesenian Rudat. تطبيق الأنشطة اللغوية على ضوء نظرية السلوكية لتحسين مهارة الكلام في مدرسة روضة القران المتوسطة لامونجان
مهارة الكلام هي واحدة من أهم المهارة في اللغة لأنها الهدف الأولى لمن يتعلم لغة. نظرية السلوكية هي نظرية تقوم على تغيير السلوك. يجب النظر إلى نجاح أو فشل تعلم مهارة كلام من خلال الأنشطة اللغوية المختلفة من منظور النظرية السلوكية. انطلاقا من هذه المشكلة، تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى معرفة الأنشطة والجهود التي تنفذها مدرسة المتوسطة روضة القران لامونجان حتى يتمكنوا من تحسين مهارة الكلام باللغة العربية لدى الطلاب. طريقة جمع البيانات المستخدمة هي المقابلة، الملاحظة والتوثيق. طريقة تحليل البيانات المستخدمة هي تحليل بيانات Miles & Huberman، وهي: تقليل البيانات، عرض البيانات واستخلاص النتائج. تشير نتائج هذه الدراسة إلى ما يلي: ١) الأنشطة اللغوية المختلفة في تحسين مهارة الطلاب في التحدث باللغة العربية في مدرسة روضة القران المتوسطة. ٢) العوامل التي تؤثر على نجاح الأنشطة اللغوية ٣) مساهمة الأنشطة اللغوية في تحسين مهارة الكلام في مدرسة المتوسطة روضة القران لامونجان
Harmonization of Islamic Law and Local Culture: A Study of Indonesian Sundanese Ethnic Culture
This study analyzed the application of Islamic law in the Sundanese ethnic community and explored the relationship between Sundanese social life and Islamic law. This research is qualitative research with a case study approach. The collection of data was obtained through observation and documentation. Data is described systematically and objectively, then analyzed using the content analysis method. This study concluded that acculturation and assimilation between the structure of Sundanese society and Islamic law had formed a unique characteristic of Sundanese society. It can occur because the reality of Sundanese people who have accepted Islam is due to harmony with Sundanese values. This research can be used as a model for building a harmonious relationship between Islamic law and the social structure of society. Islamic law can be applied without damaging the social structure of society. Culture, social structure, and Islamic law can be applied harmoniously. This study provided an empirical example of a harmonious relationship between the social structure of society and the application of Islamic law. Both can run simultaneously without eliminating each other
PENGARUH MODEL PEMBELAJARAN STUDENT CENTRED LEARNING (SCL) DAN TEACHER CENTRED LEARNING (TCL) TERHADAP MOTIVASI BELAJAR SISWA MTs DITINJAU DARI JENIS KELAMIN
ABSTRACTThe purpose of this research was to determine the effect of student centered learning (SCL) and teacher centered learning (TCL) models on the learning motivation of MTs students in terms of jenis kelamin. The sample is 80 students of superior class. Collection method with Purposive Sampling technique. The researcher designed a self-designed learning motivation variable questionnaire based on the theoretical aspects of Chernis & Goleman (2001) there were 8 behavioral indicators with 44 items. There are 30 valid and valid items. TCL in the form of a conventional learning model. SCL with STAD type learning model. Data analysis using 2-way Anava. The results of the study concluded that there was a significant difference between the learning motivation of students taught by the SCL and TCL learning models, with a coefficient of F=16,766 with a value of p = 0.000 or p 0.05. There is no effect of the interaction of the learning model with the jenis kelamin of students on learning motivation with a coefficient of F=0.363 with p>0.05.Keywords: Student Centred Learning (SCL), Teacher Centred Learning (TCL), Learning Motivation, Jenis kelamin ABSTRAKTujuan penelitian ini dilakukan adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh model pembelajaran student centred learning (SCL) dan teacher centred learning (TCL) terhadap motivasi belajar siswa MTs ditinjau dari jenis kelamin. Sampel berjumlah 80 siswa kelas unggulan. Metode pengumpulan dengan tekhnik Purpossive Sampling. Kuesioner variabel motivasi belajar peneliti rancang sendiri berdasarkan aspek teori Chernis & Goleman (2001) ada 8 indikator perilaku dengan 44 item. Item yang valid dan sahih ada 30 item. TCL dalam bentuk model pembelajaran konvensional. SCL dengan model pembelajaran tipe STAD. Analisa data menggunakan Anava 2 Jalur. Hasil penelitian menyimpulkan terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara motivasi belajar siswa yang diajarkan dengan model pembelajaran SCL dengan TCL, dengan koefisien F=16.766 bernilai p=0.000 atau p 0.05. Tidak ada pengaruh interaksi model pembelajaran dengan jenis kelamin siswa terhadap motivasi belajar dengan koefisien F = 0.363 dengan p > 0.05.Kata Kunci : Model Pembelajaran Student Centred Learning (SCL), Teacher Centred Learning (TCL), Motivasi Belajar, Jenis Kelamin
SEFL-CONTROL NARAPIDANA REMAJA
ABSTRACTThe phenomenon of criminal behavior was doing by adolescents is the basis of this research. This study aims to determine how much the level of self-control in juvenile prisoners. This study used a quantitative approach with descriptive statistical analysis. This study was held at the Special Guidance Institution for Children Class II X City. Self-control was measured using a scale. This study involved 42 research subjects aged 15-18 years. The results showed that 38.1% of juvenile prisoners had low self-control, 42.9% had moderate self-control, and 19% had high self-control.Keywords: Adolescent, Self-control ABSTRAKFenomena perilaku kriminal yang dilakukan oleh remaja menjadi dasar dalam penelitian ini. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui berapa besar tingkat self-control pada narapidana remaja. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan analisis statistik deskriptif. Penelitian ini dilakukan di Lembaga Pembinaan Khusus Anak (LPKA) Kelas II Kota X. Self-control diukur dengan menggunakan skala. Penelitian ini melibatkan 42 subjek penelitian yang berusia 15-18 tahun. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa 38,1% narapidana remaja memiliki self-control rendah, 42,9% memiliki self-control sedang dan 19% memiliki self-control tinggi.Kata Kunci: Remaja, Self-contro
KELUARGA SAKINAH PERSPEKTIF PASANGAN MENIKAH USIA DINI PADA MASYARAKAT KABUPATEN BANGGAI
Abstrak : Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui Apa saja faktor yang mendorong pasangan menikah usia dini dan bentuk pasangan yang menikah usia dini pada masyarakat di Kabupaten Banggai, dan Bagaimana keluarga sakinah perspektif pasangan yang menikah usia dini dan implikasinya terhadap dampak sosial pada masyarakat Kabupaten Banggai. Jenis Penelitian yang digunakan penelitian lapangan (field research). Teknik pengumpulan data observasi, wawancara, dokumentasi, Teknik pengolahan data menggunakan cara, editing, classifying, verifying,Analyzing, dan Concluding. Hasil Penelitian menunjukan bahwa pada masyarakat Kabupaten Banggai Khususnya di Kecamatan Bunta, Nuhon, dan Simpang Raya, terdapat 10 pasangan keluarga yang menikah dibawah umur. Beberapa faktor yang mendorong terjadinya pernikahan usia dini yaitu pengetahuan, Sikap, Status Pekerjaan, Pendapatan, Pola Asuh Orang Tua. Perjodohan, dan atas dasar suka sama suka. dari sepuluh pasangan tersebut terdapat 4 pasangan yang telah membina rumah tangga lebih dari 10 tahun karena faktor perjodohan sedangkan 6 keluarga lainnya menikah atas dasar suka sama suka tanpa ada paksaan maupun dorongan dari pihak keluarga. Bagi pasangan yang menikah karena faktor perjodohan, implikasi yang mereka rasakan kesiapan mental dan fisik belum matang, Berbanding terbalik dengan pasangan yang menikah atas dasar suka sama suka, karena apapun resikonya mereka terima sehingga mereka beranggapan bahwa itu bukan sebagai dampak dari pernikahan yang telah mereka lakukan saat masih dibawah umur Kata Kunci: Keluarga Sakinah, Pernikahan Usia Dini Abstract : This study explores the factors that encourage couples to marry at an early age in Banggai Regency, and how Early Married Couples’ Perspective on Sakinah Family Concept in Banggai Regency Community and its social impact on the people of Banggai Regency. This type of research used field research (field research). Data collection techniques are observation, interviews, documentation. Then, data analyzing techniques are classifying, verifying, analyzing, and concluding. The results showed that ten family couples married underage in the Banggai Regency community, especially in the Districts of Bunta, Nuhon, and Simpang Raya. Several factors that encourage early marriage are knowledge, attitudes, work status, income, parenting, arranged by parents, and consensual. Of the ten couples, four have built a household for more than ten years because of the matchmaking factor, while the other six families are consensual marriages. For couples who marry because of an arranged marriage, the implication is that their mental and physical readiness is immature. In contrast to couples who marry based on consensual, because whatever the risk they accept, they assume that it is not a result of the marriage they have done while still underage. The perpetrators who married at an early age either because of matchmaking factors or based on consensual opinion. According to them, sakinah family is complimentary on all sides so that they can create a peaceful, loving family, as well as instill religious values in every aspect of life to create the religious families become role models for children.
