Navigating Barriers and Empowering Women in Sharia MSMEs: A Qualitative Study on Entrepreneurial Housewives in Samarinda

    No full text
Women, particularly housewives, play an increasingly vital role in the development of Sharia-based micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). However, most existing studies focus on women’s entrepreneurship in general and seldom examine the specific barriers and empowerment experiences of housewives within the Sharia MSME context. This study aims to explore the challenges, empowerment strategies, and socio-religious dynamics experienced by entrepreneurial housewives in Samarinda. Using a qualitative literature review approach, this research synthesizes national and international studies published between 2000 and 2025. The analysis identifies four main dimensions shaping housewives’ participation in Sharia MSMEs: access to Islamic microfinance, digital literacy, social capital, and the internalization of Islamic ethical values in business practices. The findings show that while housewives hold a strategic role in fostering Sharia MSME growth, they face persistent constraints such as limited access to capital, low technological competence, and the double burden of domestic responsibilities. Nonetheless, religious motivation, community-based support systems, and Sharia-oriented social networks serve as strong empowerment enablers. The study concludes that sustainable empowerment of housewives in Sharia MSMEs requires integrative policies that enhance financial literacy, provide flexible Sharia-compliant microfinancing, and strengthen digital entrepreneurship training through community engagement. This research contributes new insights for policymakers, Islamic financial institutions, and women’s organizations aiming to promote inclusive, faith-based economic participation among housewives

Revolutionizing Zakat Philanthropy: Strategic Digital Fundraising Empowered by SOAR Analysis at Ulil Albab Institution

    No full text
This study aims to analyze digital fundraising strategies in the collection of zakat funds at Ulil Albab Amil Zakat Institution (LAZ), employing the SOAR framework (Strengths, Opportunities, Aspirations, Results). Utilizing a descriptive research method paired with a quantitative approach, the SOAR analysis is quantitatively developed through surveys conducted with five informants (n=5). The data are weighted and rated on a scale from 1 to 4, adapted from the IFE and EFE models. The results indicate that Strengths scored 1.75, Opportunities 1.83, Aspirations 2.04, and Results 1.40, totaling 7.01 overall. Quadrant mapping produced the highest score in the OA combination at 3.87, followed by SA at 3.79, OR at 3.23, and SR at 3.15. These findings demonstrate that OA was selected as the main strategic priority due to its dominant score. This strategy highlights the utilization of external opportunities, such as the rise of digital zakat trends, increased technological literacy within society, and the availability of online payment infrastructure, complemented by the internal aspiration of LAZ Ulil Albab to enhance accountability, transparency, and the institution’s digital positioning. The resulting strategy incorporates real-time digital reporting, technological innovation through the integration of e-wallets and payment gateways, digital education-oriented branding reinforcement, and the development of human resource capacity and partnerships. The study confirms that the OA strategy is effective in boosting zakat fundraising, strengthening donor trust, and supporting institutional sustainability over the long term

From Lakon to Wahyu: Qur’anic Ritualization of Ruwat Santri in Banyuwangi

    No full text
Abstract: This study explores the dynamic interplay between the Qur’an and local traditions, focusing on the Javanese cultural context where Islamization unfolds not through hegemonic imposition, but through symbolic and dialogical integration. A prominent example of this process is the transformation of the ruwatan ritual in Kedungasri Village, Banyuwangi, from a tradition rooted in Javanese wayang narratives and mystical incantations into a Qur’an-based ritual known as ruwatan santri. This ritual rearticulates spiritual purification by centering on reciting Qur’anic verses while maintaining its cultural anchoring in Javanese cosmology. Employing the framework of living Qur’an studies, this research positions ruwatan santri as a locus of meaning-making in which sacred texts are recontextualized within local practices. The analysis draws on Max Weber’s theory of social action, categorizing ritual motivations into traditional, affective, instrumental-rational, and value-rational types. The findings reveal that ruwatan santri is perceived as: (1) a traditional act aimed at preserving inherited cultural forms; (2) a value-oriented pursuit of divine blessing and inner peace; and (3) a conscious instrument to avert misfortune. In this context, the Qur’an emerges not merely as a canonical scripture but as a living, spiritual force embedded in communal life. The study contributes to contemporary discourses on local Islamic expressions by demonstrating how Qur’anic religiosity, spirituality, and cultural tradition are interwoven in a coherent and transformative synthesis. Its scholarly novelty lies in integrating Weberian sociological theory with the praxis of local Islamic ritual, offering fresh insight into how sacred texts are lived and reimagined in non-Arab Muslim societies. Keywords: Prayers, instants spirituality, hyperreality, simulacra, social mediaAbstrak: Kehadiran media sosial telah mengubah pola keberagamaan masyarakat dalam beberapa tahun terakhir.

Reconsidering Legal Protections for Child Marriage Victims: A Maqasid Shariah Perspective

    No full text
This study aims to analyze the legal protection of victims of domestic violence (KDRT) that occurs due to underage marriage in North Sulawesi through the perspective of Maqasid Sharia. The research method used is qualitative with a juridical-empirical approach, collecting data through in-depth interviews with victims of domestic violence, law enforcement officials, and religious leaders, as well as document analysis from related institutions. The results of the study show that the implementation of legal protection for victims of domestic violence in child marriage is still weak due to social stigma, lack of training of officials, and low public legal literacy. The Maqasid Sharia approach emphasizes the protection of individual souls, intellect, and honor as the main principles for handling domestic violence cases in child marriage. This study recommends increasing legal awareness, training on gender issues for officials, and strengthening cross-agency collaboration to create a more effective protection system. These findings are expected to enrich the literature and contribute to the development of policies for the protection of victims of domestic violence in Indonesia

An Analysis of Discourse Marker Use in Informal Conversations among Non-Native English-Speaking Students

    No full text
This study investigates the use of discourse markers (DMs) in male and female students’ speech, focusing on their frequency, function, and gender-based variation. It explores how DMs support coherence and fluency in spoken discourse within an educational context. Through a sociolinguistic lens, the study identifies patterns of DM usage and potential linguistic differences between genders in spontaneous speech. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed to transcribe and analyse audio-recorded student conversations. Discourse analysis was used to classify the types and functions of DMs. Findings show that both male and female students used DMs to structure discourse, manage turn-taking, and signal speaker stance. However, female students tended to use a wider range of DMs, particularly those expressing agreement, politeness, and elaboration. In contrast, male students more frequently used DMs associated with hesitation and topic shifts. These results underscore the influence of sociolinguistic factors in DM selection and highlight how gender can shape spoken language patterns. Keywords:     sociolinguistic, discourse markers, spoken discourse, student speec

The Evolution of Thematic and Integrative Approaches in Social Studies Education: A Historical and Conceptual Analysis

    No full text
This article examines thematic and integrated approaches in Social Studies Education through ontological, epistemological, and axiological perspectives. It arises from the limited availability of studies that explore these approaches from historical and developmental perspectives. The purpose of this literature research is to describe the early evolution of thematic and integrated approaches and to explain how educational practices have changed over time. Using the library research method by Both and Williams (2016), the study follows ten stages of data collection, analysis, and reduction based on relevant references. Through the Publish or Perish application, 30 relevant articles were identified using the keywords "pendekatan tematik dan terpadu." The findings reveal that interdisciplinary contexts provide a crucial perspective in Social Studies, emphasizing integration among disciplines as a core principle. These approaches gained prominence in the 20th century, influenced by Bruner's constructivism (1960) and Krathwohl's revision of Bloom's Taxonomy (2002). Models developed by Fogarty (1991) and Jacobs & Borland (1986) demonstrate their practical application, with Indonesian curricula applying integrated, correlated, and separated models across different education level

Hasilnya menunjukkan hakim mempertimbangkan kesehatan, pendidikan agama, dan kesejahteraan anak, mencerminkan penerapan prinsip "kepentingan terbaik bagi anak" (best interest of the child). Abstract : Child Custody of an Immature Child Granted to the Father: A Case Study Analysis of Decision 129/PDT.G/2021/PA.BITG. Behind the Bureaucratic Wall: The Paradox of House of Worship Regulations in Indonesia

Establishing houses of worship in Indonesia continues to face various obstacles despite constitutional guarantees. Data indicates an increasing trend in religious freedom violations, with 389 cases (2020-2021), 329 cases (2023), and 23 cases (2024), where rejection of house of worship establishments remains the predominant case. This research aims to critically analyze the implementation of the Joint Ministerial Regulation of the Minister of Religious Affairs and Minister of Home Affairs Numbers 9 and 8 of 2006 (PBM), focusing on three aspects: the causal relationship between administrative requirements and obstacles in establishing houses of worship, the impact of Religious Harmony Forum (FKUB) composition on the fulfillment of religious freedom rights, and formulating recommendations for simplifying house of worship establishment requirements. The research employs a socio-legal approach using the parameters of the Center for Religious Freedom and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. Data was collected through in-depth interviews, documentation studies, and source triangulation. The research findings identify three main issues: quantitative requirements becoming structural barriers for minority groups, FKUB's majority-based representation composition creating bias in decision-making, and the decentralization of religious affairs leading to disparate treatment across regions. Policy reformulation is needed through simplifying administrative requirements, restructuring FKUB composition, and strengthening the central government's role in protecting religious freedom to realize the constitutional guarantee of religious freedom
