A Time Series Analysis on the Decoupling of Economic Growth and CO₂ Emissions in Japan (1998-2022)

    Get PDF
This study examines the relationship between Japan's real gross domestic product (GDP) and carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions over 25 years from 1998-2022. This study aims to elucidate the progress of decoupling and its underlying factors. The primary findings indicate that while Japan's real GDP has persisted in its growth trajectory, its CO₂ emissions have declined, and decoupling has been attained in nearly all years since 2005. This study suggests that improvements in energy efficiency have been a significant contributing factor to decoupling and that energy conservation measures have provided an important incentive for companies. Furthermore, rapid growth in renewable energy since 2011 suggests that Japan may accelerate its transition from energy conservation to decarbonization.departmental bulletin pape

Audience Effects on Performance Transitions and State Anxiety in Calculation Tasks

    Get PDF
In this study, we investigate the audience eff ects on performance transitions and state anxiety in calculation tasks. Participants were asked to perform calculation task using the Uchida-Kraepelin test in five minutes. They undertook the task any alone, with remotely observed by others or with another person standing behind them. their state anxiety was evaluated with the Japanese version of the STAI–X before and after the calculation task. The main results were as follows. (l) The number of correct answers on the remote observation condition showed a similar trend to the results on the alone condition immediately after the start of task. (2) Three minutes later, the performance in the remote condition shifted to the same trend as in the directly observed condition. (3) State anxiety was significantly higher in the directly observed condition than in the other conditions. These results suggest that the intensity of attention directed to others increases anxiety and inhibits task performance, while having a stabilizing effect on arousal levels.departmental bulletin pape
