Reconstructing the Imago Dei in the Posthuman Era: An Eschatological Theology of Mediated Embodiment

This article examines the theological challenges posed by posthumanism to the anthropology of Christian theology, with a focus on the doctrine of imago Dei, the meaning of the body, and the eschatological horizons of the Christian faith. The unit of analysis in this study is a theological discourse on posthumanism—especially transhumanism and critical posthumanism—which is dialogued with systematic theology and reflection of Christian education. The purpose of this research is to reconstruct the understanding of the Imago Dei in the context of the posthuman era and to formulate a theological framework that can critically respond to technological narratives without compromising human dignity or Christian eschatological expectations. This research employs a qualitative method based on literature studies, utilizing a philosophical-theological hermeneutic approach, which enables a critical interpretation of classical and contemporary theological sources, as well as major works in the philosophy of posthumanism and the philosophy of technology. The study's findings reveal that posthumanism exposes the limitations of the substantive-rational imago Dei model and encourages the reconstruction of imago Dei as a relational-eschatological category rooted in communion with God, others, and creation. From this reconstruction was born the eschatological theological concept of the mediated body, which affirms that human existence is always mediated by technology, yet still directed toward its fullness in Christ, not to technological salvation. The primary contribution of this article lies in the formulation of an integrative theological framework for the dialogue between the Christian faith and posthumanism within the context of contemplative theology

Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) women in Depok develop ethical resistance to the dominance of conservative Islamic politics, which is controlled by a certain political party. This study aims to examine how NU women articulate and engage in ethical resistance through organizational involvement, and how these actions advance religious moderation and the concept of the maṣlaḥah family in an urban Islamic context. Using an interdisciplinary framework that integrates social capital theory, counterpublics, and ethical agency, the research examines the symbolic, structural, and practical strategies employed by NU women across Muslimat NU, Fatayat NU, and IPPNU. The results reveal that NU women create a distinct social environment founded on justice, compassion, and inclusiveness. Their activism offers a counterbalance to conservative narratives in Depok and helps to revive Islamic traditions in modern and contextual ways. By contesting exclusivity in urban culture and opening up space for a more compassionate, inclusive, and transformative expression of Islam, this grassroots movement contributes to broader social change

This finding confirms the importance of actualizing mercy-based education in building a civilized society

Teachers' Challenges and Strategies in Teaching Speaking Through a Screen

Online learning has become a common way to deliver instruction, particularly in hybrid educational models. However, teaching speaking skills presents unique challenges because it requires real-time interaction, pronunciation practice, and fluency development. This study investigates the challenges senior high school English teachers face when teaching speaking online, the strategies they employ, and the support they require. Using a qualitative approach, data were collected from 20 teachers through questionnaires and in-depth interviews with four of them. Thematic analysis revealed four main challenges: low student engagement, time constraints that hindered feedback on pronunciation and accuracy, limited resources for authentic speaking tasks, and technical difficulties that disrupted fluency and real-time communication. To address these issues, teachers implemented various strategies. Group discussions encouraged interaction and confidence; presentations supported fluency, vocabulary, and idea organization; role-plays helped reduce anxiety and provided opportunities to practice pronunciation in contextual settings; and debates enhanced fluency, reasoning, and spontaneous speaking. The teachers also emphasized the need for engaging teaching materials, technology training, and collaborative professional development. The study concludes that although online speaking instruction presents significant challenges, strategies combined with institutional support can foster students’ fluency, accuracy, pronunciation, vocabulary, intonation, and comprehension. It is recommended that schools provide engaging digital materials, targeted teacher training, and reliable infrastructure to enhance the effectiveness of online speaking instruction

Typologies of Sufi ‘Ulama in Tegal of Central Java during the Twentieth Century

Abstract: Studies of Sufism in Java often focus on Sufi scholars in coastal areas, although Tegal is less exposed compared to other cities. This study examines the typologies of Sufi scholars in Tegal during the 20th century, including their biographical trajectories and scholarly relationships. Employing a historical qualitative approach supported by elements of social network analysis, the study identifies key figures who shaped the development of Sufism in the region and maps the patterns through which religious knowledge was transmitted across generations. The findings demonstrate that Sufism in Tegal is categorised into practical (ama>li>) Sufism, ethical (akhla>qi>) Sufism, and neo-Sufism. Sufi scholars in Tegal integrated shari'ah-oriented learning with practical Sufism, thereby forming a localized style of Sunni-Neo-Sufism that was able to respond to the social and religious dynamics of the period. Contribution: This study contributes to the field of Javanese Sufism by expanding its scope to a relatively under-recognized region, namely Tegal, and by mapping the typology and scholarly networks of Sufi scholars in the 20th century. These findings enhance our understanding of local variations in Javanese Sufism by illustrating the emergence of Sunni-Neo-Sufi patterns that adapt to local social and religious dynamics

Seismicity analysis of the Southern Java region (2020-2024) based on the b-value and a-value using the maximum Likelihood method

This study investigates the seismicity analysis of the Southern Java region using earthquake data obtained from BMKG Banjarnegara, comprising 1064 events recorded between 2020 and 2024. The study area spans coordinate 7.5°S-8.5°S and 108.31°E-109.50°E. The analysis was conducted using Microsoft Excel, ZMAP 7.0, and QGIS 3.28.2 to calculate the a-value and b-value, key parameters that describe the frequency and magnitude distribution of earthquakes. The magnitude of 2.6 was the most frequently observed, with 150 recorded events, while earthquakes occurring at a depth of 10 km were the most common, totaling 210 events. The high density of seismic occurrences reflects significant tectonic activity in the region. Using the maximum likelihood method, the b-value was determined to be approximately 1.09 ± 0.04, and the a-value was calculated at 5.754. The relatively low b-value suggests areas of elevated stress, implying potential for larger-magnitude earthquakes. Additionally, the spatial distribution of the a-value highlights regions of heightened seismic activity. These findings contribute to a deeper understanding of seismic behavior in Southern Java and offer valuable insights to support disaster risk reduction and earthquake mitigation efforts in the region
