From Marginalization to Recognition: The Impact of Islamic Political Economy on Indonesia's Islamic Economy During the New Order
The New Order era (1966–1998) marks a pivotal period in Indonesia's political and economic history. This study examines the influence of Islamic political economy on the evolution of Islamic economy during this time, using a literature review to explore how political dynamics and economic policies shaped its development. The findings reveal that Islamic political economy faced significant challenges due to the New Order government's focus on capitalist and industrial-oriented policies, which often marginalized sharia-based economic systems. For instance, the Islamic banking sector struggled to expand as regulations were more favorable to conventional banks. Despite these obstacles, intellectual groups and scholars sought to integrate Islamic principles into national policies, with the establishment of Islamic financial institutions like Bank Muamalat Indonesia in 1991 serving as a milestone. By the end of the New Order era, there was a noticeable increase in public interest and awareness of Islamic economy, driven by political shifts and a growing desire for a fairer, Islamic-aligned economic system. Consequently, Islamic economics began to gain wider recognition, eventually becoming an integral part of the national economic framework

Hijab and the Hegemony of Piety: Politization of Women’s Identity in Indonesia
The imposition of mandatory hijab in Indonesia is a growing concern that highlights tensions between religious expression and women’s rights. Despite Indonesia’s pluralistic ideas, the enforcement of hijab, for example in schools or public institutions, continues to affect women and girls, reflecting a broader struggle over religious authority and national identity. This study employs a qualitative approach through case studies of several incidents where women were compelled to wear the hijab. Data collection involved document analysis and media review to understand the socio-political and historical dynamics shaping hijab enforcement. Findings show that hijab enforcement persists in various public institutions, including schools, where women are pressured to conform to dress codes based on certain Islamic interpretations. This reflects the hegemonic entanglement of religion and politics in regulating women’s bodies. We identify diverse discourses within the Muslim community regarding the necessity of hijab, revealing internal contestation over religious interpretation. Moreover, the politicization of hijab is deeply rooted in Indonesia’s historical trajectory, including noninclusive education. These findings call for a critical repositioning of the hijab discourse in Indonesia, grounded in democratic values, gender equity, and religious inclusivity.

A Semantic Literature Review on Crescent Visibility: Trends, Models, and Implications for the Islamic Calendar
The visibility of the hilāl is a fundamental aspect in determining the beginning of the Hijri month, which significantly impacts the implementation of worship and the social order of Muslims in various parts of the world. This study adopts a Semantic Literature Review approach to analyze research trends, prediction models, and the scientific and social implications of hilāl visibility in the Islamic calendar system. Various methods have been developed, ranging from classical astronomical models such as imkān ar-rukyat to the utilization of artificial intelligence and digital imaging technology. The results show that integrating astronomical methods with data-driven modeling and machine learning algorithms can improve the accuracy of hilāl visibility predictions. However, applying these models still faces challenges, especially regarding acceptance from Muslim communities and religious authorities. This study emphasizes the importance of collaboration between astronomical scientists and religious scholars in formulating a more accurate, inclusive, and globally acceptable Hijri calendar system
Investigating the Variances of Maghrib Prayer Time in Indonesia and Malaysia
The determination of the beginning of Maghrib prayer time is crucial, as it is directly related to the position of the Sun on the western horizon. Indonesia sets the Maghrib time when the Sun is at the proper position of -1 degree or -0° 50', along with elevation and atmospheric refraction corrections. In contrast, Malaysia adds approximately two minutes after sunset without defining a specific angular position, considering local elevation and atmospheric factors. This study aims to comparatively analyze the methodologies used by Indonesia's Ministry of Religious Affairs and Malaysia's JAKIM through a library research approach, employing both philosophical-normative and astronomical perspectives. Data were collected from interviews and Islamic astronomy documents. The findings show that while both countries agree on the Islamic legal principle that Maghrib begins when the Sun has fully set, technical differences in calculation methods reflect their respective approaches to integrating religious texts with astronomical precision
