Halal Meat Consumption in East Java: The Role of Employement, Manufacturing, and MSME Income

The substantial Muslim population in East Java generates significant demand for halal meat products. Manufacturers and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) play a pivotal role in shaping the region’s total halal meat production. This study investigates the influence of the number of workers, manufacturing operating income, and seasonal income of halal meat MSMEs on halal meat consumption in East Java province, Indonesia. Secondary data were collected from seven cities across the province over the period 2003–2022, using a purposive sampling technique. The data were analyzed using a static panel regression model via EViews version 12. The findings reveal that only the variable representing total manufacturing income in the halal meat sector has a statistically significant partial effect on overall halal meat consumption in the selected cities. This suggests that manufacturing enterprises possess distinct advantages over MSMEs in contributing to consumption levels. Conversely, the number of workers in the halal meat sector does not exhibit a significant influence on total meat consumption

Strengthening Family Roles Through Islamic Educational Strategies to Promote Halal Lifestyle Among Muslim Minority Youth in Vietnam

Muslim minority families in Vietnam face limited access to structured Islamic education and halal literacy resources, leading to challenges in strengthening halal lifestyle awareness among adolescents. Responding to this issue, this community engagement program was conducted in August 2025 at Thánh đường Hồi Giáo Dầu Tiếng, Ho Chi Minh City, involving 10 Muslim families. The program employed a participatory family empowerment model, utilizing a combination of online assessments, offline workshops, and hybrid mentoring and evaluation. Vietnamese students from Universitas Wahid Hasyim supported the on-site implementation, while practitioners from Indonesia provided guidance online. Over one month of staggered activities, families participated in halal literacy education, Prophetic parenting training, and the development of a Halal Lifestyle Family Plan (HLFP). The results show increased parental awareness of halal values, improved family communication, and observable behavioral changes among adolescents in consumption habits, digital media use, and Islamic identity confidence. This program demonstrates that a culturally responsive, hybrid, and family-centered Islamic educational strategy can effectively strengthen halal lifestyle practices within Muslim minority contexts

Integration of Smart Rainwater Harvesting and Islamic Ecological Ethics: IoT-Based Community Empowerment in a Coastal Area of Demak

The northern coastal area of Demak, particularly Timbulsloko Hamlet, faces a severe clean water crisis due to tidal flooding, seawater intrusion, and land subsidence. Conventional rainwater harvesting (RWH) efforts initiated by local residents have been unable to sustainably meet household needs because of limited capacity and the absence of adequate filtration systems. This community service program aims to develop an IoT-based Smart Rainwater Harvesting (Smart-RWH) system as an adaptive, affordable, and community-driven solution. The implementation methods included community outreach, training on RWH management and maintenance, installation of a Smart-RWH system equipped with water quality sensors, and trial use of a simple Android-based monitoring application. The results indicate the successful installation of a 6,000-litre Smart-RWH unit with pH and volume sensors, the development of an operational manual, and improved community capacity in managing clean water using technology. The implications extend beyond increased access to safe water, as the program also strengthens socio-ecological resilience through local institutional empowerment and collective action. The Smart-RWH model offers significant potential for replication in other coastal areas facing similar challenges

The decline in student character is reflected in weakened discipline, reduced respect for educators, and low social awareness. This study aims to reveal the leadership strategies of madrasah principals in strengthening character education at MTs Negeri 2 Kendal and MTs NU 07 Patebon, Kendal Regency. Using a qualitative approach with a descriptive design, data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, then analyzed through data reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that principal leadership plays a vital role in shaping student character through role modeling, habituation, integrated learning, and creating a religious and inclusive school climate. Supporting factors include a conducive school environment, collaboration with parents, and teachers as role models. Challenges include weak family supervision, negative impacts of technology, and low student commitment. The success of these strategies is reflected in students’ affective scores and the development of responsible, high-quality individuals who contribute positively to societ

Implementation of the Integration of Science and Islam in Islamic Education: Strategies for Building a Non-Dichotomy Paradigm

This research responds to the real challenges in madrasahs, where low integration of Islamic knowledge with scientific education is hindered by limited teacher competencies and inadequate learning facilities. Using a library research method supported by case studies of Islamic Religious Education laboratories, this study aims to clarify the objectives and relationship between science and Islam as well as the challenges and practical solutions for integration. Findings show that integration is a complementary process where science strengthens religious understanding (faith), while Islam guides the objectives and orientation of human endeavors. Practical strategies include interdisciplinary curriculum development, teacher training to improve qualifications, and establishing Islamic Religious Education laboratories that use natural phenomena as learning media. These laboratories serve as places for practising and researching Islamic teachings, enhancing students’ competence and stimulating scientific attitudes. The study’s implications offer concrete benefits for educators by providing effective teaching strategies, for students by fostering a holistic worldview connecting material and spiritual dimensions, and for policymakers by informing policies and programs supportive of science-Islam integration in educational institutions. This integrative approach is vital for developing comprehensive education in madrasahs that addresses contemporary educational and spiritual needs, enhancing learning quality and educational infrastructure

Female Circumcision in Banjar Culture: Navigating Customary Law, Islamic Law, and Human Rights

This study examines the practice of female circumcision (basunat) among Banjar communities in South Kalimantan-Indonesia, where customary law and Islamic belief intersect with global human rights discourse. The research addresses the legal tension between the international prohibition of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and local acceptance grounded in 'urf and maqāṣid al-sharī‘a. Using a normative legal approach supported by qualitative field data—interviews, local regulations, and fiqh analysis—the study reveals that basunat is a purely symbolic, non-cutting, and non-invasive ritual performed hygienically by trained midwives. Distinct from FGM, it functions as a rite of purification and moral responsibility, strengthening social cohesion and spiritual identity. The findings demonstrate a form of localized legal consciousness that reconciles cultural practice with Islamic legal reasoning. The study contributes to scholarship on legal pluralism, urging context-sensitive legal frameworks that differentiate symbolic basunat from FGM while safeguarding both human rights and cultural heritage in pluralistic societies

Nexus Islamic Finance Development and Income Inequality in Indonesia: Testing Kuznets Curve Hypothesis

This study analyzes the applicability of the Kuznets curve hypothesis within the specific context of Islamic finance development in Indonesia and its resultant implications for income inequality. The novelty of this research lies in integrating Islamic finance, specifically from the banking sector, with Islamic social finance instruments, namely zakat, infaq, and sadaqah. Crucially, it interrogates whether the Kuznets curve hypothesis remains pertinent within this expanded framework. Utilizing secondary panel data encompassing 25 Indonesian provinces over the 2019–2020 period, the study employs panel data regression techniques, specifically common effect, fixed effect, and random effect models, which were systematically selected via the Chow, Hausman, and Lagrange multiplier tests. The empirical findings demonstrate unequivocally that the development of Islamic finance, spanning both the financial and social sectors, significantly influences income inequality. This substantiates the Kuznets curve hypothesis: inequality initially escalates but subsequently diminishes as development matures. Furthermore, the results underscore the role of the Human Development Index (HDI) and the prevalence of mosques in mitigating inequality, while population density exhibits a positive association with inequality. This study conclusively argues that strengthening financial inclusion and professionalizing the management of Islamic social finance constitute strategic approaches for mitigating income inequality in Indonesia

MENAFSIRKAN KEMBALI AL-DAKHĪL: KRITIK EPISTEMOLOGIS TERHADAP UNSUR ISRĀ’ĪLIYYĀT DALAM TAFSIR AL-ṬABARĪ ATAS QS. AL-BAQARAH: 36

Autonomy or Submission? The Position of Women in the Tradition of Londho iha (Elopement) in Bima, West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia

The practice of elopement among the Bima people is closely tied to traditional dynamics, local norms, legal frameworks, and religion. This study examines the role of women in elopement and whether it is a form of autonomy or submission. Using qualitative research methods, the study focuses on elopement (londho iha) in Samili Village, located in Woha District, Bima Regency, West Nusa Tenggara. The findings reveal that women occupy a nuanced position in londho iha, one that is both autonomous and submissive. On the one hand, this tradition can be interpreted as a way for women to express their autonomy in choosing a life partner. On the other hand, it functions as a social mechanism that subjects women to customary and social pressures. Women in the londho iha tradition are complex subjects. They have the agency to make decisions, but these decisions are often constrained by patriarchal norms that govern their lives. Londho iha is not merely a patriarchal tradition, but also a space in which Bima women strive to exercise their agency within the constraints of a complex social system. Women's agency in londho iha is ambivalent. It can liberate them, but it can also trap them within patriarchal structures. Thus, this practice should be understood as a dynamic interplay of power, culture, and the acting subject rather than as a manifestation of total domination or absolute freedom

This study aimed to examine the effect of E-Bukuku, a flipbook-based digital pocketbook on balanced nutrition, in improving nutrition knowledge among elementary school children. The study employed a pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design conducted at Purin Muhammadiyah Kendal Elementary School. A total of 162 students aged 7–9 years were selected using purposive sampling. The intervention was delivered through a structured nutrition education session. Students were guided by the researcher or classroom teacher to interactively explore the E-Bukuku flipbook through page navigation, illustrations, question-and-answer sessions, brief discussions, and practical examples to reinforce balanced nutrition messages. After the session, students were given time to independently review the material before completing the posttest using the same questionnaire as the pretest. Nutrition knowledge was measured using a structured questionnaire integrated with the E-Bukuku content. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test, as the paired pretest and posttest data did not meet the normality assumption. The results showed a statistically significant improvement in nutrition knowledge following the intervention, with mean scores increasing from 55.30 ± 8.12 at pretest to 82.75 ± 6.45 at posttest (p < 0.001). In conclusion, the use of E-Bukuku significantly improved balanced nutrition knowledge among elementary school children. E-Bukuku can be considered an innovative digital-based nutrition education medium. This study provides preliminary evidence supporting the effectiveness of flipbook-based digital nutrition education and offers insights for future large-scale interventions
