Exploring Foreign Muslim Tourist Preferences in Halal Tourism: A Study of Indonesia’s Halal Market
This study investigates the preferences of foreign Muslim tourists in Indonesia's halal tourism sector, with a particular focus on their expectations regarding halal accommodation, products, destinations, and regulations. This study aims to identify deficiencies in policy implementation, infrastructure development, and international marketing that impede Indonesia's potential as a prominent global halal tourism destination. A qualitative research methodology was employed, incorporating interviews and focus group discussions with seven stakeholders: religious scholars, tourism operators, business owners, and foreign Muslim tourists. Data were analyzed using NVivo 12 and Atlas 7 software to extract key themes and insights. The findings revealed significant inconsistencies in halal certification, infrastructure, and international marketing strategies. Foreign Muslim tourists prioritize halal-certified services, cultural authenticity, and inclusivity. However, the inadequate implementation of halal standards, limited halal-friendly infrastructure, and ineffective international promotion efforts constrain Indonesia's capacity to attract more Muslim travelers. Policy recommendations include the enhancement and standardization of halal certification processes, improvement of halal-friendly infrastructure, and implementation of targeted international marketing campaigns. Strategies to promote inclusivity among non-Muslim tourists have also been proposed to support sustainable growth. This study offers novel perspectives by integrating cultural identity, contemporary tourism approaches, and global expectations. It examines the intersection of faith-based travel and accessibility and presents practical suggestions for establishing Indonesia as a leading destination for halal tourism
Building Virtual Reality Hajj Journey Learning Media as a Simulation Tool for Teaching Hajj and Umrah Topics
The need for more engaging Hajj and Umrah education highlights the limitations of conventional methods, such as lectures and printed manuals, which often lack experiential and spiritual depth. While Virtual Reality (VR) has become increasingly common in education, its use in religious ritual training, particularly for Hajj and Umrah, remains largely underexplored. This study aims to develop immersive learning media that allow users to practice Hajj and Umrah rituals interactively. The development of the VR-Hajj application followed the Research and Development (R&D) model by Lee and Owens, which includes five stages: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The validation process involved experts who assessed the media’s content, usability, and instructional design. Data were analyzed using inter-rater agreement to determine consistency among expert evaluations, with results showing a high level of agreement. The Content Validity Index (CVI) was also used to assess overall validity, yielding a strong score of 0.83. Experts gave the VR-Hajj media an average rating of 91.54%, confirming its effectiveness and instructional relevance. These findings support VR-Hajj as a promising tool for improving Hajj and Umrah preparation through immersive Islamic learning. The study also proposes a future framework integrating VR and metaverse technologies to enhance accessibility and engagement. To expand its impact, further research should explore strategic partnerships with Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) to help deliver VR-based religious education more widely and inclusivel
New Student Pesantren Program as an Instrument for Enhancing Fiqh Worship Literacy among Islamic University Students
Islamic higher education institutions play a strategic role in shaping students' religious understanding, particularly in the area of fiqh worship practices. This foundational aspect of Islamic studies is essential for cultivating a balanced and contextualized approach to religious life among students. The New Student Pesantren Program serves as an integrated religious orientation model aimed at strengthening students’ comprehension and practice of fiqh from the beginning of their academic journey. This study seeks to evaluate the effectiveness of the program in enhancing students’ understanding of fiqh worship within Islamic universities. A mixed-methods approach was adopted, incorporating both quantitative and qualitative data through surveys, comprehension tests, and case study observations. The research involved first-year students selected through purposive sampling. Key instruments included a structured questionnaire and a fiqh worship comprehension test. Data were analyzed using triangulation techniques to ensure the validity and reliability of findings. Results from the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test showed a significance value of 0.000, which is lower than the threshold of 0.05. This confirms a statistically significant improvement in students’ understanding of fiqh worship after participating in the program. Therefore, the New Student Pesantren Program is proven to be an effective initiative in improving fiqh worship literacy, contributing to the broader goal of religious development in Islamic higher education settings

Enhancing students on climate issues through social media marketing and green knowledge sharing: A contemporary da'wah approach in Indonesia and Turkey
Purpose - This study examines the influence of social media marketing and green knowledge sharing on climate change awareness among university students in Indonesia and Turkey. These digital initiatives are framed as a contemporary form of da'wah bil hal, where Islamic values of environmental stewardship are promoted through action-based communication and active engagement on social media platforms.
Method - A quantitative approach was employed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) to analyze data collected from 327 students through purposive sampling.
Result - The findings reveal that social media marketing significantly impacts green knowledge sharing (β = 0.279, p = 0.016) and climate awareness (β = 0.305, p = 0.012), with green knowledge sharing mediating the relationship (β = 0.112, p = 0.038). However, climate awareness alone does not significantly lead to pro-environmental behavior.
Implication – The study highlights that empowering students through social media campaigns can be an effective strategy for environmental da'wah, integrating Islamic values into climate action.
Originality/Value - This study is one of the first cross-cultural investigations linking social media-driven environmental communication with Islamic da'wah practices between Indonesia and Turkey. It highlights cultural variations in environmental awareness and communication style, where Indonesian students show higher collectivist-driven engagement in green campaigns. In contrast, Turkish students tend to approach environmental messaging more individually. These contrasts enrich understanding of how Islamic da'wah bil hal can be contextualized across different cultural and educational settings.

The Double Stage of Working Mothers in Media Company
The phenomenon of working mothers balancing dual roles as professionals and homemakers is a significant concern within the media industry context, including those working in online media, Kompas.com. This study aims to understand how working mothers in Kompas.com manage these two roles. The research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. The data was collected through in-depth interviews with three informants from Megapolitan's editorial division. The results show that informants play a professional role at the “front stage” as self-disciplined, target-oriented, and communicative workers, while doubling as homemakers “backstage” who take care of children and the household. An analysis using Erving Goffman's dramaturgy theory shows that they balance these roles and identities by utilizing impression management. This study shows that working mothers in the media industry are active actors who develop social strategies to play their dual roles, highlighting the importance of support for women in both the workplace and the household
Qur'anic Theology and the Mystical Shruks of Shaikh al-‘Ālam: A Comparative Analysis of Divine Unity and Moral Deviation
Shaikh Nūr al-Dīn Nūrānī (Shaikh al-'Ālam) was one of the most influential spiritual figures in the history of Kashmir, where his Shruks contained profound theological, ethical, and mystical ideas. Although there is considerable research on his life and teachings, studies that systematically compare Shruks with Qur'anic theology—particularly regarding the concepts of tawḥīd, human moral deviance, spiritual responsibility, and tawbah—are still very limited. To fill the gap, this study employs an analytical-descriptive approach and thematic analysis to compare the Shruks of Shaikh al-'Ālam with relevant verses of the Qur'an. The study's results revealed a significant theological harmony between the Qur'anic message and the poetic expression of the Shaikh, particularly in terms of the oneness of God, prophetic guidance, primordial covenants, rejection of polytheism, and the transformative power of tawbah. Moreover, this research shows that the Shruks not only reflect the teachings of the Qur'an but also reinterpret them within the communicative and contextual framework of Kashmiri Sufism. The main contribution of this research lies in: (1) the presentation of a structured Qur'an–Sufi comparative model, (2) the strengthening of the understanding of Kashmiri Sufism as a theological expression firmly rooted in the Qur'an, and (3) the expansion of academic discourse on how local sufistic literature can function as a medium for the effective dissemination of Islamic theology across generations and cultures
