Halal Product Assurance as Legal Protection for Muslim Consumers in Indonesia
This research is motivated by the still-weak legal protection for Muslim consumers in Indonesia concerning the circulation of products without clear halal certification, despite existing regulations such as Law Number 33 of 2014 on Halal Product Assurance. This study aims to analyze the implementation of halal product assurance and its effectiveness in providing legal protection for consumers and formulate strategies for strengthening the existing regulatory framework. This research uses a normative juridical method combined with an empirical approach through field interviews with business actors, relevant authorities, and consumers to obtain firsthand data. The findings indicate that while the legal framework is adequate, its implementation faces several challenges, including limited infrastructure, a lack of understanding among micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and weak law enforcement. Based on these findings, the study recommends strengthening the sanctions stipulated in Article 56 of the Halal Product Assurance Law, increasing the capacity of halal inspection and auditing institutions, and enhancing inter-agency collaboration to ensure that all circulated products are halal-certified, thereby providing stronger legal protection for Muslim consumers
Does sharia governance in secular countries exist? Turkey and France experience
Purpose - This study seeks to answer the question, "does shariah governance exist in secular countries?" by examining Turkey and France as case studies.
Method - This study adopts Whittington’s practice theory approach, with Shariah governance indicators carefully prepared. Content analysis is applied to data from regulatory websites, annual reports, and official bank websites in Turkey and France. Each piece of information that aligns with the predefined indicators is systematically compiled, enabling a comparative assessment of shariah governance regulations, structures, processes, and reporting practices across both countries.
Result - The study finds that shariah governance in secular countries varies significantly and is influenced by political will and regulatory frameworks. In France, Shariah governance remains undeveloped due to constitutional restrictions on religious intervention. In contrast, Turkey has institutionalized shariah governance, with TKBB issuing regulations and overseeing participation banks, yet weaknesses remain in governance structures and reporting standards. These findings reinforce Institutional Theory, demonstrating how political and regulatory environments shape the effectiveness of Shariah governance in secular states.
Implication - The study highlights how regulatory frameworks and political dynamics shape Shariah governance in secular contexts, offering insights for Islamic banks, regulators, and policymakers to strengthen governance to enhance compliance and ensure sustainability.
Originality - This is one of the first studies to investigate the existence of sharia governance in a country with a secular constitution and reveal how political dynamics may influence it
Friendly Education: Prophet Muhammad's Interactions with Children
Acts of violence, both verbal and non-verbal, that threaten children often occur in interactions between adults and children. Acts of violence like this are very counterproductive in the world of education. This article aims to analyze how the Prophet PBUH interacted with kids who had their universe. Following that, a descriptive analysis was conducted on the hadiths about the Prophet's contact with children that were recorded in the hadith books. Child-friendly education is a concept that emphasizes the importance of fostering a sense of safety and enjoyment in children. The Prophet's interactions with children provide valuable guidelines for child-friendly education. He greets them with a sense of security, appreciates their unique world, and allows them to play without scolding. He encourages sadness by joking with them and does not discriminate against children based on gender. This child-friendly educational model deserves further research to identify more comprehensive and in-depth prophetic education methods. The Prophet's affectionate approach towards children makes him a valuable model for educators
Transforming Elementary Literacy Education Through Digital Innovation and Fiction Comprehension Strategies
This study aims to analyze the utilization of Information and Communication Technology in literacy education within elementary schools and elementary students' literary comprehension of fictional texts. The study used a mixed-method design and involved 160 students and 20 teachers from eight schools, with the public elementary school of Kuningan 01 Semarang having the most significant student representation. The research found that educators frequently integrate laptops, projectors, and digital applications into literacy instruction, though limited connectivity and inadequate infrastructure regularly present implementation challenges. Similarly, an investigation of students' fiction comprehension shows that primary learners consistently display positive reading behaviors and generally demonstrate solid abilities in fundamental literary understanding tasks. The study recommends comprehensive strategies for literacy improvement through infrastructure development, teacher training, careful text selection, reading strategy integration, and reflective practices that address diverse learning needs
Humanism-Based Management of Islamic Religious Education Learning
A common phenomenon at SMAN 13 Semarang is that, due to the large amount of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) subject matter, teachers often focus on completing the curriculum targets, which causes them to overlook the humanistic aspects of the learning process. Therefore, managing Islamic learning based on humanism is an important thing that can be done to achieve national education goals and vision. This study aims to find out and analyze the implementation of humanism-based PAI learning management at SMAN 13 Semarang. This research is qualitative with a phenomenological approach. Data collection is carried out by observation, interviews or interviews and documentation. The results of the study show that humanism-based PAI learning management in this school includes planning that emphasizes student activity and creativity, the implementation of participatory learning, and internal supervision by the principal. Evaluation is also focused on the learning process. Humanism-based PAI learning management at SMAN 13 Semarang prioritizes a close teacher-student relationship and fosters a positive, engaging learning environment. Teachers serve as facilitators who inspire and support students with patience and by setting a good example. Learning is conducted in an active and participatory manner, emphasizing the development of creativity and religious and social character. Evaluation emphasizes students' physical, mental, and social development, providing constructive feedback to support their growth
A Study of the Poverty Alleviation Program for Young Families in Bantarkawung Subdistrict, Brebes
Pahlawan Ekonomi Nusantara (PENA) Muda is a community empowerment program aimed at assisting young families in becoming independent and reducing their reliance on social assistance. Given the importance of implementation effectiveness and the disparities between urban and rural areas, this study focuses on evaluating the effectiveness of the program in rural settings. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through interviews, observations, documentation, and the Context, Input, Process, Product (CIPP) evaluation model. The results indicate that the overall effectiveness rate of the program reached 75%, classifying it as effective. Process-related aspects showed average scores of 3.1 for socialization, 3.3 for coaching, 3.2 for mentoring, and 3.5 for monitoring. These findings suggest that although the program is generally effective, some components still have room for improvement, particularly in strengthening socialization and mentoring efforts. The study highlights the significance of context-sensitive implementation and continuous evaluation to enhance the success of community-based programs. In conclusion, the research contributes to the ongoing development of the PENA Muda program and provides insights for optimizing its future implementation, especially in rural areas where tailored approaches are critical for sustainable impact
Harmful Socio-Cultural Practices and Gendered Oppression in Northern Nigeria: A Phenomenological Study
In Northern Nigeria, deeply embedded socio-cultural and religious norms continue to marginalize girls and young women through systemic practices such as child marriage, sexual violence, limited access to reproductive health education, and economic dependency. Despite increasing awareness of gender inequality in the region, there remains a limited understanding of the lived experiences of affected individuals. This study explores how patriarchal values and harmful traditions shape the daily realities of girls and women in northeastern and northwestern Nigeria. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach, data were collected through in-depth oral interviews with 30 purposively selected participants aged 12–73. Thematic analysis using the Colaizzi method revealed four major themes: widespread sexual abuse, unsafe abortion practices, limited health literacy, and deepening economic dependence. These findings highlight how silence—driven by cultural taboos and institutional neglect—perpetuates gender-based harm. The study contributes to global gender discourse by foregrounding the voices of marginalized Muslim girls and women, offering culturally contextualized evidence to inform gender-sensitive policy and advocacy by governments, NGOs, and faith-based organizations
Prophetic Ethics of Inclusion and Conflict Resolution: A Neo-Traditionalist Interpretation of the Sirah
In an era marked by escalating religious intolerance and social fragmentation, the ethical legacy of the Prophet Muhammad (Sirah) offers a compelling yet underexplored framework for promoting peaceful coexistence. Despite its rich content, contemporary discourse often marginalises the inclusive and reconciliatory dimensions of the Prophet’s life. This study aims to examine how neo-traditionalist Muslim scholars—particularly from the West and the Indian subcontinent—interpret the Sirah to address issues of social inclusiveness and conflict resolution. Employing a qualitative descriptive method, this research integrates content analysis, thematic exploration, and comparative interpretation. It focuses on key historical events such as Hilf al-Fudul, the Constitution of Medina, the migration to Abyssinia, the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah, and the Conquest of Makkah. The findings show that neo-traditionalist scholars present a contextual and ethical reading of the Sirah that aligns classical Islamic values with modern challenges. This study contributes to the growing field of peace studies in Islam by reviving the Prophet’s ethical model as a viable framework for interfaith harmony, minority rights, and conflict transformation in pluralistic societies
Religious Challenges and Guidance for Dayak Muslim Converts in the Indonesia–Malaysia Border Region
Religious conversion in border areas often triggers complex identity negotiations and social tension, particularly for indigenous communities like the Dayak people. In Jagoi Village, located at the Indonesia–Malaysia border, many Dayak individuals who convert to Islam face cultural, social, and spiritual challenges due to their minority status and the persistence of traditional customs. This study aims to identify the religious issues encountered by Dayak Muslim converts and evaluate the strategies of religious guidance based on religious moderation. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, focus group discussions, and field observations involving religious counselors and local converts. The findings reveal four major problems: limited Islamic knowledge, minimal religious mentoring, poor access to digital Islamic resources, and a lack of understanding of religious moderation. This research contributes to the discourse on minority religious identity and offers policy recommendations for inclusive, culturally sensitive religious mentoring. It also supports the design of empowerment models for Muslim converts in border areas, which can serve as a reference for interreligious engagement and social integration efforts in Southeast Asia's plural societies
The Synergy of School and Parent: A Strategy to Improve the Quality of Educational Services
This study aims to evaluate the level of parental satisfaction with the educational services at SDIT Kartika Buana and to formulate strategies for improving service quality through a synergistic approach between the school and parents. The research employed a quantitative descriptive method using the Importance-Performance Analysis (IPA) approach. The sample consisted of 50 respondents randomly selected from a population of 319 students. The research instrument was a Likert-scale questionnaire developed based on the five dimensions of service quality as defined by Kotler and Armstrong, as well as Zeithaml and Bitner, namely: tangibles, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, and empathy. The findings indicate an average satisfaction level of 3.93 and an expectation level of 4.20, resulting in a conformity level of 95%. The Cartesian analysis revealed that the quality of the learning program, teacher competence, and the alignment between cost and educational quality are key priorities for improvement. Meanwhile, teacher behavior and the Tahfidz (Qur’an memorization) program fall under the category of aspects that should be maintained. This study highlights that synergy between the school and parents is a critical strategy in maintaining and enhancing the quality of educational services, particularly within integrated Islamic elementary education institutions
