Analysis of total phenolic content and antioxidant activity in Turi leaf extract (Sesbania grandiflora L.) with the use of different solvents
This study aims to evaluate the effect of solvent types on the total phenolic content and antioxidant activity of turi leaf extract (Sesbania grandiflora). The types of solvents used include ethanol, ethyl acetate, and n-hexane. The total phenolic content was measured using the Folin-Ciocalteu method with gallic acid as a standard, while the antioxidant activity was determined using the DPPH quenching method. The results showed that the highest total phenol content was obtained from ethyl acetate solvent (12.31 µg/mL), followed by ethanol (9 µg/mL) and n-hexane (6.34 µg/mL). However, antioxidant activity based on IC50 showed different results, where the extract with n-hexane solvent had the highest antioxidant activity (IC50 = 142.9 µg/mL) compared to ethyl acetate (IC50 = 245.47 µg/mL) and ethanol (IC50 = 271.8 µg/mL). These differences indicate that the type of solvent affects not only the amount but also the type of phenolic compounds and other bioactive compounds in the extract. This study highlights the importance of selecting an appropriate solvent to enhance the extraction efficiency of phenolic compounds and antioxidant potential
Assessing intrapersonal peacefulness: Validation and cultural adaptation of the Self-Perception Scale with Indonesian samples
The study of intrapersonal peacefulness has begun to develop in Indonesia. However, there is no specific scale in the country that measures the concept as a personality trait. The primary aim of this research is to examine the psychometric characteristics of the Self-Perception Scale for the Indonesian context (SPS-I) with the purpose of validating and customizing it for the Indonesian setting. The study was conducted on 1552 adolescents (983 males and 569 females) in Indonesia. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was conducted, followed by confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), to evaluate the factor structure. The CFA results comprised 12 adequate items showing saturation factors ranging from 0.468 to 0.780. Measurement model fit (p < .01, TLI = .946, CFI = .956, RMSEA = .06, SRMR = .036). The construct reliability of the SPS-I was .865 (Cronbach's α) and .848 (McDonald's ω). The results suggest that the measuring tool demonstrated enhanced consistency, and the goodness of fit model produced a high score. The study introduces the novel notion of intrapersonal peacefulness as a personality trait, which can significantly contribute to the promotion of social competencies that value diversity and nonviolent methods of conflict resolution
CASSAVA-BASED BIOPLASTIC AS A CARRIER MEDIUM FOR SLOW-RELEASE FERTILIZER
The rapid nutrient release of conventional fertilizers often leads to resource inefficiency, environmental pollution, and a continuous increase in subsidized fertilizer demand in Indonesia. This study aimed to develop cassava starch (Manihot esculenta Crantz)-based bioplastic as a carrier medium for urea slow-release fertilizer (SRF). The bioplastic was further analyzed for its mechanical properties, biodegradability, and nutrient release efficiency. The research method involved cassava starch preparation, bioplastic fabrication using cassava starch, polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), and glycerol mixtures, followed by testing of water resistance, tensile strength, elongation, Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) analysis, and SRF release performance. The results showed that bioplastic containing fertilizer (BP) exhibited higher water absorption, with water resistance of 73.45%, compared to bioplastic without fertilizer (BP0), which showed 67.44% water resistance. Mechanical testing revealed that bioplastic without fertilizer had a higher tensile strength (0.99 MPa) than bioplastic containing fertilizer (0.50 MPa). Although the tensile strength did not meet the Indonesian National Standard (SNI ISO 527-1:2016), which requires values between 24.7–302 MPa, the elongation properties of both samples met the standard range of 21–220%. Functional group analysis using FTIR indicated changes in the chemical structure of the bioplastic due to fertilizer addition, evidenced by a shift in the FTIR absorption peak at 2164.13 cm⁻¹, corresponding to the isocyanate group. The urea slow-release test conducted over six days showed a nutrient release efficiency of 66% for the bioplastic-embedded urea fertilizer (BP) compared to the direct use of urea fertilizer. Overall, this study demonstrates that cassava starch-based bioplastic has strong potential as an efficient carrier material for SRF applications
Think-Pair-Square: A Collaborative Approach to Enhancing Critical Thinking Skills in Chemical Equilibrium
Low levels of critical thinking skills among students on the topic of chemical equilibrium pose a significant challenge in chemistry education. This topic demands strong analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving abilities. This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of the Think-Pair-Square (TPSq) learning model in enhancing students’ critical thinking skills. A pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design was employed, involving 59 students from two classes selected through cluster random sampling. Data were collected using a critical thinking skills test administered before and after the intervention, and analyzed using N-Gain and effect size. The results indicated a significant improvement in students’ critical thinking skills, with an average N-Gain of 0.48 (moderate category) and an effect size of 2.75 (very high category). These findings suggest that TPSq is an effective collaborative learning strategy for developing critical thinking skills in chemical equilibrium and can serve as an alternative instructional method that promotes student interaction and discussion

The relationship between work-life conflict, workforce agility, and subjective well-being among remote employees: The underlying mechanism of job stress
While remote working conditions became more prominent post COVID-19, they have influenced a shift in the subjective well-being (SWB) of remote employees. The impact of the associated job stress has been underexplored in Indonesia. Drawing on the job demands-resources model, this research investigates the underlying mechanisms of job stress in explaining the relationships between work-life conflict, workforce agility, and SWB among remote employees. A total of 350 permanent employees who work fulltime remotely in several organization in Indonesia (65.7% women, M-age = 26.19 years; SD = 3.66) participated in the study. Data were collected using scales measuring work-life conflict, workforce agility, SWB and job stress, distributed online via Google Forms. The data were analyzed using structural equation modeling (SEM) techniques with the IBM SPSS AMOS program. The results showed that work-life conflict and workforce agility were associated with subjective well-being ( β = -.32 and .79, p < .001; respectively). Furthermore, job stress fully explains the relationship between work-life conflict and subjective well-being (CI -.46 – -.12) and partially explains the association between workforce agility and subjective well-being (CI .62 – .87). The findings have implications for how organizations and counsellors can assist remote employees in enhancing their well-being by managing their stress, promoting workforce agility, and overcoming work-life conflicts
