Handling Multicollinearity using Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator Regression on Per Capita Expenditure Data
Multicollinearity is a problem that must be addressed when using regression. Multicollinearity often occurs in socioeconomic data, such as Per Capita Expenditure. Several relevant studies have shown that Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator (LASSO) regression is a good method for handling multicollinearity. Additionally, it produces the simple model. Meanwhile, the Least Angle Regression (LAR) algorithm works effectively in model optimization, especially when multicollinearity occurs in multiple variables. Therefore, this study aims to handle multicollinearity with LAR LASSO regression in the specific case of per capita expenditure data in Wonosobo with many variables experiencing multicollinearity. The result study is LAR LASSO regression successfully eliminated two of the four predictor variables that exhibited multicollinearity by reducing the regression coefficients on the two predictor variables to zero. The best regression model obtained produces two significant coefficients so that Per Capita Expenditure in Wonosobo was influenced by the Human Development Index and Average Years of Schooling
Revitalizing Traditional Astronomical Instruments: Developing a Local Dial Model for Accurate Prayer Time Determination
This study addresses the limitations of contemporary prayer time instruments, which often require complex calculations, electricity, internet connectivity, or direct exposure to sunlight, by developing a practical, local dial–based tool for community use. Employing a Research and Development (R&D) approach, data were collected through observation and documentation and analyzed using descriptive and comparative methods. The device integrates calculations from the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs, including altitude corrections for Maghrib, Isha, and Fajr, processed through VBA in Microsoft Excel using astronomical formulas from Jean Meeus’s Astronomical Algorithms. The instrument comprises a dial field, support field, tripod, thread, spirit level, minute-scale ruler, and stick, with the dial incorporating an analog prayer-time circle, an ‘Asr curve, and a Zuhr line. Comparative testing against the official prayer schedule demonstrates high accuracy with only a one-minute deviation. Designed for long-term use, the device remains valid for 50 years from 2023 and is applicable within a 27.5 km radius of Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar
Global Qibla Direction Using Stellar Transit at Kaaba Latitude
The global rashd al-qiblah is currently considered the most accurate and easily applicable method for measuring the qibla direction, as it utilizes the sun’s shadow during its transit above the Kaaba. Unfortunately, this event occurs only twice a year, and the sun's disk diameter of 0.5° reduces the accuracy of the method. The global rashd al-qiblah method, which utilizes stars with declinations equal to the latitude of the Kaaba, with its higher annual frequency and point-sized stellar disks, is more effective to use. This study employs a library research method with a qualitative and multidisciplinary approach, integrating both religious science and natural science. This study aims to develop an alternative method for determining the global qibla direction using stellar transit. Thirty-two stars can be utilized for the worldwide star rashd al-qiblah method, each usable for measurements over approximately 177.41 days. This means the global rashd al-qiblah method can be applied approximately 2,838 times across multiple countries within one year

Null Bézier Curves in Minkowski 3-Space
In this paper, we define and investigate the properties of null Bézier curves in Minkowski 3-space. The method applied is a theoretical literature study, applying the definitions of Bézier curves and the geometric framework of null curves in semi-Riemannian geometry. We establish several fundamental characteristics of these curves, including the causal nature of their tangent vectors at endpoints and their Frenet frame apparatus when parametrized by pseudo-arc length. Furthermore, we define the concept of a null Bertrand pair for such curves and prove that if a null Bézier curve of degree n≥3 admits a Bertrand mate, then both curves are necessarily helices. Finally, we provide a conclusive parametric representation of any null Bézier curve in terms of a single non-constant function. This representation offers a powerful tool for explicitly constructing null Bézier curves within this geometric setting
NEGOTIATING ISLAMIC AUTHORITY: TRANSNATIONAL MOVEMENTS AND RELIGIOUS CONTESTATIONS IN YORUBALAND, NIGERIA
The modern Islamic thoughts are essentially influenced by transnational Islamic movements with their diverse inclinations. Such an influence wielded by these movements differs from one location to another. Against this backdrop, this paper studies the influence on Muslims in Yorubaland of Nigeria, with specific focus on religious polemics introduced by the advent of these movements in the region under study. Descriptive method of research was adopted. The study shows that though there are different transnational movements in Yorubaland, the most controversial and popular in contemporary time are the Muslim Brotherhood and Salafiyyah groups. The religious polemics evoked by the advent of the transnational Islamic movements in the region under study include the religious controversy between the traditional Muslims and adherents of these movements as well as the polemics that exist among the various movements against one another. The study recommends display of high level of ethics of disagreements among the traditional and the revivalist Muslims in Yorubaland as well as statutory regulation of religious practice by the concerned authorities in order to forestall the turning of religious polemics to physical crisis in the region

Unveiling Hybrid Communication: Political Strategies in Central Java and Insights from Salatiga
This article analyses the configuration of political communication strategies employed by legislative candidates in the local electoral context of Salatiga, a multicultural city in Central Java. Recent scholarship on local political communication in Indonesia has broadly examined campaign practices in a fragmented manner, often separating face-to-face interactions, digital media use, and social networks. Drawing on a systematic review of existing studies, this study demonstrates that local political communication operates through a hybrid strategy that integrates interpersonal communication, digital platforms, and socially embedded networks within a normative framework of Tolerance. Using McNair's political communication framework, this study argues that different communication channels perform distinct yet complementary functions. Face-to-face communication plays a central role in identity building and in gaining support by fostering trust and social legitimacy. At the same time, digital media primarily serves as an information source and tool, expanding the reach of messages, particularly among younger voters. Simultaneously, community-based networks and opinion leaders mediate political messages and align them with local social norms, thereby enhancing message acceptance. The findings further show that Salatiga's culture of tolerance functions not merely as a social backdrop but also as an active discursive boundary that shapes acceptable political narratives. This study contributes to the literature by offering an integrated theoretical model of local political communication that emphasizes the contextual orchestration of communication functions in multicultural settings
Socio-Economic Poverty among Yoruba Women in Nigeria: A Qualitative Analysis of Structural and Cultural Determinants
This study examines socio-economic poverty among Yoruba women in the Southwestern region of Nigeria, with women as the main unit of analysis and Yorubaland as the socio-cultural context of the study. The aim of this study is to identify the structural, cultural, and economic factors that contribute to the sustainability of Yoruba women's socio-economic poverty and to examine their implications for women's empowerment and national development. This research employs a qualitative approach, utilizing a critical analysis of academic literature, policy documents, and secondary data from international development agency reports, complemented by contextual observations of the socio-economic realities of the Yoruba people. The findings of the study show that the socio-economic poverty of Yoruba women is influenced by limited access to education, patriarchal cultural norms, economic inequality, government policies that are less favorable to women, the high cost of living, and lack of access to financial resources. These factors collectively limit women's economic participation, inhibit asset accumulation, and reinforce cycles of dependency and vulnerability. The study also found that unpaid domestic work and the exclusion of women from the decision-making process weakened their socio-economic progress. This article contributes to the study of gender and development by presenting a contextual analysis of women's poverty in Yoruba society and affirms the urgency of gender-sensitive policies as a sustainable development strategy in Nigeria
