Reconceptualization of Multicultural Islamic Religious Education in Islamic Boarding Schools
Islamic teachings, both in the Quran, Hadith, and the opinions of scholars, require its followers to respect and appreciate differences. In this modern era, respect and appreciation for differences are recognized within the concept of multiculturalism. This multicultural spirit has been practiced in Indonesia, particularly in Islamic boarding schools (pesantren). Long before formal educational institutions existed in Indonesia, pesantren educated students from diverse linguistic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds through an accessible and integrated system. The success of Islamic boarding schools in implementing multicultural Islamic education was then adopted by schools, madrasas and universities. One such school that implements this multicultural spirit is a pesantren-based high school under the auspices of the Amanatul Ummah Foundation in Pacet, Mojokerto. Using qualitative research and a case study approach, along with data collection techniques of participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, this study aims to uncover a reconceptualization of multicultural Islamic religious education in pesantren-based schools. The results of this study are: 1) The concept of multicultural Islamic religious education in the Amanatul Ummah Islamic boarding school in Pacet, Mojokerto, with the following characteristics: with the characteristics of a) Exemplary, b) Cooperation, c) Trust, d) Appreciation, e) Humanity, f) Avoiding bullying, and g) Responsibility and 2) Implications of the concept of multicultural Islamic religious education in the Amanatul Ummah Islamic boarding school-based high school in Pacet, Mojokerto, namely, a) strict strategy in the process and responsible in the results, and b) Superior, Whole, and moral learning model with multicultural insight
Between Fidelity and Reform: Muḥammad Qāsim Nanotvi's (1833–1880) Rearticulation of Waḥdat al-Wujūd
Muhammad Qasim Nanotvi (1833–1880) is primarily recognized as the founder of the Deoband seminary. His engagement with waḥdat al-wujūd reveals a neglected philosophical project that seeks to reconcile mystical intuition with rigorous metaphysical reasoning. Drawing on the intellectual legacy of Shāh Walīullāh al-Dihlawī and Ḥājī Imdādullāh Muhājir Makkī, Nanotvi affirms that all existence depends on God, yet rearticulates this within a theological structure that safeguards divine transcendence. This article examines Nanotvi's reinterpretation of waḥdat al-wujūd (the unity of being), a foundational yet contested concept in Islamic metaphysics and Sufi thought. Employing a historical-critical approach, this study reveals that Nanotvi does not fully endorse waḥdat al-wujūd but rearticulates it as the unity of the attribute of existence (ṣifāt al-wujūd), emphasizing that all existence depends on God while preserving divine transcendence and ontological distinctions between God and creation. By focusing on the attribute of existence, Nanotvi offers a systematic response to ontological debates, avoiding the controversies surrounding waḥdat al-wujūd, while maintaining the spiritual depth of this concept.
Contribution: The findings contribute to a deeper understanding of how Islamic thinkers navigate complex metaphysical questions, offering valuable insights for addressing the tensions between mysticism and orthodoxy
Potential of local material SiO2 water Hyacinth for semiconductor materials
This study aims to examine the potential of local SiO₂ material synthesized from water hyacinth biomass waste as a candidate for semiconductor materials. Synthesis was carried out through a calcination process at temperatures above 600 °C to remove cellulose, lignin, and other impurities. Material characterization was carried out using UV-Vis spectroscopy, X-ray Diffraction (XRD), and Raman Spectroscopy. The results of UV-Vis spectroscopy showed that the water hyacinth derived SiO₂ exhibited an unusually reduced optical band gap of approximately 2.3 eV, likely influenced by impurity phases.. XRD tests indicated the presence of two crystal phases, namely the trigonal structure of SiO₂ and the monoclinic structure of the CaH₁₂O₁₇Si₂U₂ compound. Raman analysis confirmed the presence of functional groups such as Si, amorphous SiO2, CH₂/CH₃ and vibration signals from irregular sp² carbon. This combination of structures is thought to cause a lower band gap value compared to pure SiO₂. This finding indicates that SiO₂ from water hyacinth has potential as an intermediate semiconductor material, although further purification is still needed to increase the purity of the SiO₂ phase
The Journey for Being Pro-feminist Male Ulama: A Study among Four Indonesian Ulama
Male ulama have significantly influenced the feminist movement in Indonesia by providing religious interpretations that are attuned to women's experiences and actively addressing injustices faced by women. This research delves into the transformative journeys of four male ulama as they adopted pro-feminist stances and engaged with the feminist movement. Utilizing a phenomenological approach and in-depth interviews for data collection, the study focuses on how these ulama promote gender justice and embrace feminist principles. The findings reveal that the journey to pro-feminism for these ulama involves multiple phases: recognizing sensitizing events, cultivating feminist consciousness, reinforcing feminist values, and taking tangible actions against women's injustices. In their advocacy for gender justice, these ulama have crafted a methodology for interpreting religious texts that centers women's experiences as crucial to understanding faith. This interpretative approach not only supports a gender-just mindset but also seeks to integrate gender justice principles into daily practices. Ultimately, the study illustrates the essential roles male ulama play in fostering a pro-feminist environment and encouraging societal change regarding gender issues in Indonesia
A Pragmatic Analysis of Women and Angry Speech: Case Study of The Saudi Arabian Takki Series
This study aims to reveal the forms of illocutionary acts and impoliteness strategies in anger utterances directed at women in the Saudi Arabian series Takki. In Arab culture, angry utterances are not merely emotional expressions but serve as tools for enforcing social norms and patriarchal control. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method with a pragmatic approach. The data, consisting of dialogue excerpts, were analyzed using Searle's speech act theory and Culpeper's theory of impoliteness. The results show that anger utterances in Takki are dominated by directive, expressive, commissive, and declarative acts, accompanied by impoliteness strategies, including insults, prohibitions, threats, and verbal abuse. These utterances reflect unequal power relations between men and women and reinforce patriarchal structures in Saudi society. This study confirms that language functions as a significant tool of social control in cultures where family honor is paramount. By uncovering the pragmatic mechanisms that sustain gendered communication hierarchies, this research contributes to the broader understanding of how linguistic behavior reinforces social ideologies within both pragmatic and sociocultural theoretical frameworks
Developmental Anatomy of Anther in the Red Dragon Fruit (Hylocereus polyrhizus Britton & Rose)
The developmental anatomy of the anther in Hylocereus polyrhizus (red dragon fruit) was examined to elucidate the sequential processes of microsporogenesis and microgametogenesis that underlie pollen formation. Flower buds were sampled at five developmental stages (1-5) and analyzed histologically using paraffin embedding and safranin staining. Anther length increased progressively by 96% from stages 1 to 4 and plateaued before anthesis, indicating growth cessation before pollen maturation. The anther wall followed a dicotyledonous pattern, comprising the epidermis, endothecium, middle layer, and tapetum. Early stages featured archesporial differentiation into primary parietal and sporogenous cells, followed by the formation of secondary parietal and sporogenous layers. The endothecium developed fibrous thickenings, while the binucleate, secretory tapetum provided nutrients for developing microspores and degenerated at maturity. Microsporogenesis proceeded from microspore mother cells to tetrads and solitary microspores, culminating in tricellular pollen grains at anthesis. These findings demonstrate that anther development in H. polyrhizus conforms to the typical dicotyledonous type, with characteristic features such as a secretory tapetum and fibrous endothecium. The results provide essential anatomical insight to support breeding programs, artificial pollination strategies, and reproductive biology studies of this economically valuable cactus species.
 
MOLECULAR DOCKING OF ANTIBACTERIAL ACTIVITY OF HEXAHYDRO-1,2,3-TRIAZINE DERIVATIVES
Hexahydro-1,3,5-triazine and its derivatives have piqued the interest of numerous researchers due to its strong biological characteristics, which include antibacterial, antimalarial, fungicidal, antiviral, anticancer, antimicrobial, antiamoebic, anti-inflammatory, and antitubercular effects. The antibacterial activity test in this work was performed using molecular docking on 16 hexahydro-1,3,5-triazine derivative compounds and three drug molecule controls that were selected from the PDB database and targeted Penicillin binding protein 2A (PDB ID: 1VQQ). For docking, Pyrx v.1.1's AutodockVina integration was utilized. Docking utilizing the targeted docking strategy was performed using a specific gridbox that was chosen based on the location of significant amino acids and pharmacological controls. The drug potential of a chemical under test is described by the Pa (Probability to be Active) value. The results of the Pa value analysis showed that several hexahydro-1,3,5-triazine derivative compounds had a higher/better average Pa value compared to the control drugs Ceftaroline and Ceftobiprole. Based on the Lipinski rule of five, the analysis's findings indicated that six out of the sixteen test compounds had good drug-likeness features; however, according to Pfizer, every compound possessed these qualities. Nearly all of the drugs exhibited good pharmacokinetics, according to the ADMET study. According to molecular docking results, 13 out of 16 synthesized compounds generally exhibit a high affinity for the PBP2a target protein. Furthermore, four compounds had a higher affinity than the ceftobiprole drug control when compared to the three drug controls. Synthetic compounds, particularly compounds 7, 16, 15, and 1, have the potential to be used as antibacterial therapies, according to the results of QSAR, ADMET, and docking research
COMPARATIVE GC–MS CHARACTERIZATION AND PHYSICOCHEMICAL EVALUATION OF Citrus hystrix DC. ESSENTIAL OILS FROM DIFFERENT PLANT PARTS
Essential oils from Citrus hystrix DC. are known for their rich bioactive composition, particularly citronellal, which has extensive applications in the fragrance and pharmaceutical industries. However, comparative studies on the chemical and physicochemical properties of oils extracted from different plant parts remain limited. This study investigated essential oils obtained by steam distillation from leaves (LEO), twigs (TEO), and a leaf–twig mixture (LTMEO). The oils were characterized using GC–MS and FTIR analyses, alongside measurements of density, refractive index, and yield. LTMEO yielded a yellow, aromatic oil with a density of 0.856 g/mL, a refractive index of 1.439, and a yield of 0.60%, consistent with the quality requirements of SNI 9231:2023. GC–MS profiling identified citronellal as the dominant compound, with concentrations of 83.88% in LEO, 69.88% in LTMEO, and 46.47% in TEO. FTIR spectra confirmed the presence of aldehyde functional groups, consistent with the high citronellal content. Minor constituents such as linalool (5.24–8.91%), isopulegol (0.47–2.95%), β-citronellol (2.03–12.22%), and citronellyl acetate (4.28–6.48%) were also detected, potentially affecting citronellal isolation. Overall, the findings highlight C. hystrix DC. leaves as the most promising source of citronellal for industrial applications
Corporate social responsibility in Islamic bank: review of one decade of research and future directions
Purpose - This study aims to systematically review the literature on corporate social responsibility in Islamic banks over the past decade, identifying key trends, determinants, impacts, and future research directions.
Method - The systematic literature review methodology followed the PRISMA protocol to ensure a rigorous selection and evaluation process. The study analysed 25 papers from the Scopus database.
Result - Findings suggest that CSR disclosure, governance structure, and regulatory support significantly influence the effectiveness of CSR in Islamic banks. While some studies show a positive relationship between CSR and financial performance, others show that the impact is context-dependent, varying across regulatory environments and socio-cultural dynamics. This study also highlights the methodological diversity in CSR research, with content analysis, regression analysis, and surveys being the most frequently used approaches.
Implication - This study enhances academic and practical understanding of CSR in Islamic banking by analysing key internal and external determinants, synthesising CSR trends and challenges, and suggesting avenues for future research.
Originality - This study integrates a holistic view of CSR trends and outlines a future research agenda. The findings provide valuable guidance for academics, practitioners, and policymakers on improving CSR implementation in Islamic banking
Implementation of the Flipped Classroom Model to Improve Cognitive Learning Outcomes in Biology Learning
21st-century education emphasizes student-centered learning to develop critical thinking, communication, and collaboration skills. However, biology classrooms still largely rely on conventional methods that place the teacher as the primary source of information. This pattern leads to passive and unmotivated students, resulting in low conceptual mastery. To address this situation, learning innovations are needed that can increase student participation and independence in learning. One relevant alternative is the Flipped Classroom model, in which students first study the material through digital media before face-to-face classroom activities take place. This study aims to improve students' understanding and cognitive learning outcomes through the application of the Flipped Classroom model to the topic of environmental change. This study used a classroom action research (CAR) method implemented in two cycles involving 20 fifth-semester students. Data analysis was conducted using the Kolmogorov–Smirnov normality test to ensure data distribution, Levene's homogeneity test to test for equality of variance, and a paired sample t-test with a significance level of 0.05 to determine differences in learning outcomes between cycles. The results of the study showed a significant increase in learning outcomes, with the average value of cycle I (M = 305.91) increasing to (M = 459.55) in cycle II. A paired t-test showed a significant difference between the two cycles (t(10) = -9.34, p < 0.001). Thus, the application of the Flipped Classroom model was proven effective in increasing student engagement, understanding, and cognitive learning outcomes in biology learning
