REVISITING HADITH INTERPRETATION THROUGH GEOGRAPHY: EXTENDING MICHAEL A. COOK’S EXTERNAL CRITERIA THEORY

    Get PDF
A hadith cannot always be understood solely throught its textual, it often requires a specific approach to uncover its proper contextual interpretation. The geographical approach is one such contextual method that helps reveal the true meaning of a hadith. This study adopts the theory of external criteria, as one of the essential aspects to examine in hadith research is the location where the hadith was conveyed. The purpose of this research is to explore the necessity of the geographical approach as an external criterion in understanding hadiths and to present examples of its application in several hadiths. This research employes a qualitative descriptive method with a library research design and a hadith studies approach. The finding reveals that, first, the geographical approach as an external criterion is crucial for comprehending the Prophet's hadiths. Second, examples include: 1) hadiths on the dynamic direction of the Qibla according to a Muslim’s location; 2) hadiths on toilet etiquette related to facing or turning away from the Qibla depending on the setting; 3) hadiths on garments such as white robes that adapt to local culture and climate

Parental phubbing and problematic smartphone use among adolescents: The mediating role of parental attachment

    Get PDF
In the post-pandemic era, a new challenge has emerged within families: the increasing tendency toward problematic smartphone use (PSU). Parents’ attention is often divided between digital interactions and their children, parents appear available but are mentally preoccupied with digital interactions, leaving them physically present but psychologically absent during shared moments—a phenomenon known as parental phubbing. This study examined how parental phubbing contributes to adolescents’ PSU and tested whether the quality of parental attachment mediates this relationship. Data were collected from 654 adolescents aged 12–18 years in Medan, Indonesia, using cluster sampling. Participants completed the Parental Phubbing Scale (PPS), the Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment–Revised (IPPA-R), and the Smartphone Addiction Scale–Short Version (SAS-SV). Path analysis showed that parental phubbing directly predicted higher PSU levels (β = .270, p < .001) and indirectly influenced PSU through reduced parental attachment (β = .054, p < .001). The mediation model, confirmed by the Sobel test (z = 9.24, p < .001), indicated partial mediation. These findings highlight the need to foster secure parent–child relationships and promote mindful digital engagement among parents to reduce adolescents’ vulnerability to smartphone overuse in the evolving post-pandemic family environment

    No full text
Clitoria ternatea L. or telang flower is widely used as a natural food coloring, herbal tea and also as an additional active ingredient in pharmacological products. C. ternatea contains antioxidants are good for protecting cells from free radicals, maintaining the immune system, anti-aging and good for skin health. The aim of this research was to determine the gel formulation of C. ternatea flower extract regarding its total flavonoid content. The formulation results have gone through physical quality tests and total flavonoid tests. Physical quality test parameters include organoleptic test, homogeneity test, pH test, spreadability test, hedonic test, moisture test, and irritation test. The high extract content will increase the flavonoid content in the gel formulation, and it also make the color of the preparation more intense (purplish blue), making it less preferred by users. Therefore, from the hedonic test results, it is known that is preferred by users is with a concentration of C. ternatea condensed extract of 1%. The last formulation showed that the total flavonoid content of C. ternatea gel formulation had a total flavonoid content of 63.21 ug/g using UV-Vis spectrophotometry. This flavonoid content indicates that the gel formulation contains antioxidants are good for skin health

    Get PDF
Mercury (Hg), a hazardous heavy metal, has become a significant environmental and public health concern. Practical tools for detecting mercury in water and cosmetic samples remain limited. This study aimed to develop a nitrocellulose membrane–based test strip capable of detecting mercury through its reaction with diphenylcarbazide. The development process involved the formation of a purple-colored complex resulting from the interaction between mercury ions and diphenylcarbazide, which served as the visual indicator of mercury presence. The selectivity of the test strip was evaluated against non-mercury ions, and its accuracy (%) was compared to the atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS) method. The results revealed that the nitrocellulose membrane–based test strip was selective toward mercury ions, exhibited a clear color response with increasing mercury concentrations, and demonstrated a relatively high accuracy of 83.33%. These findings suggest that the developed test strip has strong potential as a semi-quantitative and portable tool for mercury detection

    Get PDF
Inorganic oxide nanoparticles synthesized from Aceh bovine bone were successfully prepared using the precipitation method, with pH variations of 8 and 10 adjusted using NH₄OH as the precipitating agent and pH regulator. The resulting nanocatalysts were characterized using XRD, FTIR, and SEM-EDX, and their catalytic activity was evaluated through the transesterification of RBDPO. XRD and FTIR analyses confirmed the presence of hydroxyapatite (Ca₁₀(PO₄)₆(OH)₂), calcium oxide (CaO), and calcium carbonate (CaCO₃) as the main components in catalysts synthesized at pH 8 and pH 10. SEM micrographs revealed spherical particle morphologies, while EDX analysis showed calcium as the dominant element, with contents of 55.44% and 57.19%, respectively. The average crystallite sizes, calculated using the Debye–Scherrer equation, were 31.63 nm (CB-P8C) and 31.31 nm (CB-P10C). Catalytic activity tests demonstrated that the catalyst synthesized at pH 10 exhibited higher performance, achieving a biodiesel yield of 98.11%, compared to 92.66% for the catalyst synthesized at pH 8. Quality assessment of both biodiesel samples confirmed that their acid values, density, and viscosity met the Indonesian National Standard (SNI 04-7182-2015). This approach highlights a sustainable pathway for converting biowaste into efficient catalysts for green fuel production

    No full text
This study examines the influence of the audit committee, firm size, and financial distress on the integrity of financial reporting, with audit quality as a moderating variable in state-owned enterprises listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) from 2021 to 2024. Using a quantitative approach, data were collected from the annual reports of 20 companies, yielding 80 firm-year observations. Financial reporting integrity reflects honesty and accuracy in presenting a company’s financial condition. The findings show that the audit committee has a significant positive effect, firm size has a significant negative effect, and financial distress has no significant effect on financial reporting integrity. The Moderated Regression Analysis (MRA) indicates that audit quality moderates the relationship between the audit committee and firm size on reporting integrity but does not moderate the effect of financial distress. These results highlight the vital role of the audit committee and firm size in enhancing the integrity of financial reports, while audit quality serves as a strengthening factor. The study contributes to improving corporate governance practices by emphasizing that integrity in financial reporting is not only a technical issue but also a moral obligation grounded in Islamic ethical values of truthfulness, trustworthiness, and justice

Financial literacy, attitude, and fintech payment in an Islamic perspective: mediating role of financial self-efficacy in students’ personal finance

    Get PDF
In Indonesia, members of Generation Z encounter notable difficulties in regulating their personal finances, largely attributable to inadequate financial literacy and pronounced consumerist behavior, even though the utilization of financial technology is steadily expanding. The present research investigates how financial literacy, financial attitudes, and fintech-based payment systems influence students’ ability to manage their finances, while considering financial self-efficacy as an intermediary construct. The study adopts a quantitative explanatory design and surveys 120 students from the Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business at IAI Khozinatul Ulum Blora, selected through stratified random sampling procedures. Data were obtained via a five-point Likert-type questionnaire and subsequently processed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS 4.0 software. The empirical results indicate that financial attitudes significantly enhance self-efficacy but exert no direct effect on financial management. Conversely, financial literacy shows a robust impact on financial management, whereas financial self-efficacy does not mediate the examined relationships. Fintech payment plays a dual function by simultaneously strengthening self-efficacy and exerting a direct positive influence on students’ financial management practices. Overall, the findings underscore the pivotal contribution of financial technology in directing students’ financial conduct in the digital age, while revealing differentiated patterns of influence for literacy and attitudes
