    Get PDF
This study aims to analyze the level of science literacy at the Physics Education Study Program UIN Walisongo Semarang by using the International Student Assessment (PISA) Model Test Instrument. Science literacy is measured based on the ability of students in analyzing, applying concepts, and using a scientific approach in the context of basic mechanics, especially in business material, energy, and power. This study involved students of Physics Education UIN Walisongo Semarang with test data showing the highest score of 84, lowest 16, and an average of 32 of the maximum score of 100. Analysis of the indicator of competency achievement shows a significant variation between the eight aspects measured. The highest indicator is the ability to analyze and apply the concept of relationship between business and kinetic energy and potential energy (39%), followed by the application of scientific methods in the concept of kinetic and potential energy (36%). Meanwhile, the lowest indicator is found in the aspect of analyzing and applying the concept of relationship between business and mechanical energy changes (16%) as well as the application of scientific methods in the concept of mechanical energy (26%). These findings indicate that students tend to experience difficulties in integrating scientific approaches and complex conceptual understanding. The results of this study indicate that the literacy of physics education students is still at a low level, with the dominance of factual and conceptual abilities that have not fully developed to the analytical and applicative levels. Therefore, innovation is needed in the learning approach and assessment that is oriented towards strengthening scientific thinking and transfers cross -context concepts. This study made an important contribution in the development of PISA -based science literacy assessment for higher education in the field of physics education, as well as supporting the strengthening of 21st century competencies in science education in Islamic tertiary institutions

The use of Augmented Reality (AR) in education contexts has great potential to enhance students’ learning experiences and retention for abstract scientific content. This research was conducted to find out whether AR-based learning media is effective in increasing the retention of elementary school students on the five human senses. The study used a quantitative one-group pretest-posttest design with 52 4th-grade students of two Islamic elementary schools located in Pandeglang, Indonesia. AR media was applied to present 2D and 3D interactive visuals for introducing science content. Data were collected from pre-test, post-test, and documents, then analyzed by using a paired sample t-test in SPSS 16. A statistically significant difference is found between posttest and pretest scores (p < 0.05), indicating that the retention of AR media among students was effective. The AR media-using students showed a higher level of conceptual understanding and memory for the topic of the five senses. In this paper, we stress the potential of AR technology as a transforming tool, shedding new light on how science teaching can be transformed into an innovative and efficient learning model. It also contributes to the growing body of research on educational technology in primary education, especially in the Indonesian context. The findings provide significant implications for educators, curriculum designers, and education policy makers in balancing the introduction of the latest digital technologies into the primary classroom to enhance students’ learning

    Get PDF
The United States possesses a strategically significant geographical location, bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the west. This unique positioning has made the country a destination for immigrants from various nations, including Muslim communities. This study aims to explore the historical foundations and development of Islam in the United States, particularly through the contributions of religious institutions and communities that promote and strengthen Islamic teachings. The research utilizes a library-based methodology with a qualitative approach, drawing from books, journals, and official reports relevant to the topic. The findings indicate that, while Islam remains a minority religion in America, its number of adherents continues to grow. This phenomenon is closely tied to the active roles played by religious organizations such as CAIR, ISNA, MSA, and FIMA, which support education, advocacy, and interfaith dialogue. Furthermore, global incidents, such as the attacks on September 11, 2001, have served as significant turning points in increasing public interest in Islam. These institutions are crucial in shaping a positive image of Islam within America's diverse society

    Get PDF
Indonesia's pretrial system has long faced challenges, including formalistic procedures, limited judicial oversight, and potential violations of suspects' rights. The Constitutional Court Decision No. 21/PUU-XII/2014 expanded pretrial review, especially regarding suspect designation. Yet, gaps remain in implementation, legal certainty, and due process. This study aims to critically evaluate the reconfiguration of Indonesia's pretrial mechanism by integrating human rights principles, Islamic criminal law, and KUHAP reform. Employing doctrinal analysis of legislation, case law, and jurisprudence, complemented with comparative insights from Malaysia, Egypt, and Türkiye, the research examines how procedural fairness and accountability can be strengthened. Findings reveal persistent weaknesses in judicial control, repeated suspect status, and post factum review. Integrating positive law, human rights, and Islamic law principles such as ḥisba, qāḍī al-maẓālim, al-bayyina, and dar’ al-ḥudūd bi al-shubuhāt can enhance procedural justice. Recommendations include clearer pretrial codification, substantive judicial oversight, and adoption of Islamic law insights to build a more equitable, rights-oriented pretrial framework in Indonesia

To mitigate the adverse effects of modern farming systems on natural resources, we need sustainable agriculture immediately. Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), the largest Islamic group in Indonesia, plays a strategic role in raising awareness and encouraging sustainable farming practices through informal education. This study investigates NU's non-formal education initiative designed to promote the shift from exploitation to conservation within the agricultural sector. Utilizing a qualitative methodology rooted in empirical analysis and literature review, the study investigates the integration of Islamic values, indigenous knowledge, and agroecological principles into farmer empowerment curricula through collaborations between pesantrens and the Nahdlatul Ulama Agricultural Development Institute (LPPNU). The results underscore the pivotal function of NU's non-formal education in augmenting farmers' ecological awareness, fostering the implementation of organic farming practices, and bolstering community-oriented food security. But there are still problems, like not having enough access to resources and not having enough policy support. In summary, NU's non-formal education programs provide a promising framework for promoting sustainable agriculture based on Islamic principles and local cultural contexts. The study offers policy recommendations for the incorporation of ecological and social sustainability into educational and agricultural development in Indonesia

The Influence of Al-Ghazali's Sufistic Thought on Pesantren Education Practices in Indonesia

    Get PDF
Pesantren education in Indonesia faces challenges in integrating the development of spiritual, moral, and academic competence of santri in a balanced manner. Al-Ghazzali's Sufistic thought is considered relevant to strengthen pesantren education practices because it emphasises purification of the soul (tazkiyatun nafs), moral development (tarbiyatul akhlaq), and systematic dhikr practices. This study aims to analyse the influence of al-Ghazzali's Sufistic principles on pesantren education practices in Indonesia. The research used a qualitative approach with a descriptive-analytic type to obtain an in-depth understanding of the implementation of Sufistic values in the context of pesantren education. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with kyai, ustaz, and santri; participatory observation of learning and worship activities; and documentation of curriculum and teaching records. Data analysis was conducted through reduction, presentation, and triangulation to ensure the validity and consistency of the findings. The results show that the application of the tazkiyatun nafs principle encourages santri to conduct self-reflection, routine dhikr, and spiritual evaluation so as to increase self-awareness, discipline, and emotional control. The principle of tarbiyatul akhlaq through moral mentoring and social activities strengthens the character, empathy, and social responsibility of santri. The integration of al-Ghazzali's Sufistic values in the curriculum and daily activities creates a balance between intellectual and spiritual aspects, forming students who are spiritually mature, noble, and able to interact harmoniously in society. In conclusion, al-Ghazzali's Sufistic thought plays a significant role in improving the quality of pesantren education holistically. Future research is recommended to compare pesantren that apply Sufistic principles with those that do not, as well as examining the application of Sufistic

Patience in the Perspective of Sufism: Spiritual Strategies for Students to Maintain Mental Health

    Get PDF
The high prevalence of mental health issues among university students highlights the need for a holistic treatment approach that includes not only medical and psychological care but also spiritual support. This study examines the concept of patience in Sufism as a practical spiritual strategy for coping with mental pressure. Using a qualitative phenomenological method, it explores the subjective experiences of eight students through in-depth interviews and focus group discussions. The findings indicate that students who practice patience through Sufi practices achieve enhanced emotional regulation, inner calmness, and spiritual resilience. Rather than mere endurance, patience functions as a spiritual framework that helps students reframe academic stress as divine tests, fostering steadfastness and a deeper sense of purpose. Contribution: This study contributes to the discourse on Islamic spirituality in psychology, offering an integrative, culturally rooted approach to student mental well-being. It also adds practical insight into applying Sufi teachings in modern contexts

Redefining Leadership: An Ethnographic Study of Bureaucratic Transformation in Yogyakarta's Aristocratic Society

    Get PDF
Bureaucratic transformation in an environment steeped in traditional values demands an unconventional approach to leadership. This article examines how an anthropological perspective can explain the leadership transformation of a mayor who redefines his role-from authority figure to public servant-in the context of Yogyakarta's aristocracy. Using ethnographic methods, including participant observation and in-depth interviews, this study addresses three core questions: how leadership operates as a catalyst for bureaucratic transformation in an aristocratic society; what strategies are used to transform bureaucratic norms into public service; and how civil servants respond to such changes. The research findings suggest that culturally grounded leadership can play an important role in reshaping bureaucratic values and practices. The mayor's leadership broke down entrenched hierarchies, fostering a culture of service and accountability within the bureaucracy. These changes were not only administrative but also structural, contributing to more equitable and responsive governance. Ultimately, this research highlights the importance of context-rooted leadership in public sector reform, emphasizing that transformative change will be more sustainable if leadership strategies are aligned with local cultural frameworks.
