APPLYING FLIPPED LEARNING APPROACH IN EFL CLASSROOM IN LIEPAJA CENTRE PRIMARY SCHOOL
Educational planning documents highlight the importance of differentiation of the learning process and improving individuals\u27 competencies to fulfil complex tasks. By a flipped learning approach, when the students acquire the new information at home, watching the instructional video, more time is devoted to the active learning process in the classroom, as a result of which the students have the opportunity to improve their competencies.Within this article\u27s framework, a case study\u27s data on using a flipped learning approach in teaching elementary school students are analysed. The study included fourteen 4th grade English as first foreign language students of Liepaja Centre primary school. The study was conducted in 2020 from 30 October till 27 November. The study\u27s main objective is to analyse possibilities to differentiate the learning process according to students\u27 individual needs and improve competencies using a flipped learning approach. The study found that teachers have an excellent opportunity to give students individual and useful feedback and differentiate students\u27 work according to their individual needs. The study revealed that students have the possibility to improve competencies. It is useful to introduce teachers to the possibilities of a flipped learning approach to individualize the learning process and develop students\u27 competencies as it is stated in education planning documents.
INTEGRATION OF CONTENT AND LANGUAGE INTEGRATED LEARNING ELEMENTS IN THE EDUCATION OF NONLINGUISTIC SPECIALTY STUDENTS BY MEANS OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES
The article deals with the problem of CLIL elements integration when teaching students of non-linguistic specialities. Main approaches to the definition of this teaching method are given. It is found that different authors consider CLIL as an educational approach, special education techniques, flexible curricular etc., the main purpose of CLIL methodology is to create the link between the study of the foreign language and the content of the students’ major discipline. The necessity of the IT implementation into the educational process has been substantiated (it allows to reduce the unproductive costs of the teacher\u27s labour, gives students wide scope to a freely choose their own trajectory, increases the efficiency and objectivity of monitoring and evaluating learning outcomes, promotes individualization of educational activities, etc.).We have to use IT technologies as they help improve and diversify students’ work. Precisely, when working with students we often use Moodle platform as it provides unlimited opportunities for both students and teachers. It is found that Moodle platform allows developing reading, listening, writing, and grammar skills. Some examples of how to work using Moodle platform is given in the article. It is shown that such parts of Moodle platform as Chat and Forum are of great interest for both foreign language teachers and students. For those students who officially work or are ill, the Assignment module is of particular interest
CHALLENGES OF DISTANCE EDUCATION DURING THE SCHOOL LOCKDOWN: THE LITHUANIAN SCHOOL LEADERS’ PERSPECTIVE
The COVID19 pandemic has caused massive disruption in education practices worldwide and Lithuania was no exception. This article investigates how this period of uncertainties has been perceived by Lithuanian schools during school lockdown. The study aimed to explore the challenges that Lithuanian schools faced and how distance education practices has been reconsidered during school lockdown. The research was based on a survey of 406 sampled school leaders of public education institutions in Lithuania conducted two months into the first nationwide lockdown in spring 2020. This paper aims to discuss the challenges of distance education from the perspective of school leaders, and to link the findings of the study to recent studies related to schools’ responses to the pandemic situation. The survey responses indicated that schools initially focused on the organisation of staff training and technological preparation to start distance education during the first two weeks of lockdown. Their focus two months into the process shifted towards tackling challenges on students\u27 responsiveness and assessment of students\u27 achievements during distance education. Challenges are perceived as opportunities for reflection and growth, re-examine current institution strengths and weaknesses, and reconsolidate with the school communities in prioritising what the utter function in education is.
DIGITAL SUPPORT SYSTEM FOR FULL-TIME AND REMOTE MASS INDIVIDUALIZED EDUCATION WITH ELEMENTS OF MACHINE LEARNING
The requirements to the digital support system for opened individualized learning are formulated in the conditions of accelerated transition to remote forms. A version of a digital support system for development, search and provision of students with electronic educational resources in physics focused on the formation of individual trajectories of students in the educational space is considered. The possibility of several options for such a construction is allowed: 1) independent choice of the student; 2) the appointment of the trajectory by the teacher, supervisor or employer; 3) automated construction of trajectories by the system, organized on the basis of machine learning and artificial intelligence technologies

EDUCATIONAL WORK WITH GIFTED CHILDREN THROUGH INTERNET IN CHINA (ON THE EXAMPLE OF COMMUNICATIVELY GIFTED CHILDREN)
Chinese pedagogical science always had rather complex relationship with the concept of «giftedness» as a social and educational reality because only the person\u27s social success (good position, social and professional demand, maximum compliance with the social ideal of society) was seen as the sign of the person\u27s giftedness in traditional Chinese pedagogy. Online education always considered to be a supporting form of education service in China or a variant of education service providing for special categories of children (hard-to-reach children, children with special physical and educational needs, those who are in difficult life situations: imprisoned, in hospital etc). However the 2020 pandemic situation faced the whole world and China in particular with the need to reconsider views as to the place of distance education. All pedagogical and educational work in the world has been moved online and work with gifted children is of no exception. The article aims to present the Chinese experience of online work with gifted children (especially the communicatively gifted ones) by the means of special education platforms and programs. To write the article, a complex of theoretical and empirical research methods was used (аbstraction method, analysis of pedagogical literature, induction and deduction, observation etc.)
KNOWLEDGE, ATTITUDES AND COVID-19-RELATED BEHAVIOR AMONG INDIVIDUALS AGED 50 AND OLDER IN LATVIA
The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) was declared a pandemic by the WHO on March 11, 2020, due to its high infection rate, which caused thousands of deaths worldwide and expanding. The evolving outbreak of COVID-19 requires health-protective behavior that can alleviate the severity of an epidemic. Therefore, recognizing the underlying drivers of health-protective behavior against COVID-19 is urgently needed to form policy responses. The purpose of this study was to investigate the individual-level underlying drivers affecting the formation of knowledge, attitudes, and COVID-19-related health-protective behavior among individuals aged 50 and older who are more vulnerable to complications of infection because of their age. The factors making individuals more vulnerable are also associated with the ability to access and understand information, make well-informed decisions, and take health-protective and promoting actions, especially when information itself is not timely, trusted, consistent, or actionable. The researchers used data from a representative population sample consisting of 50-80-year-old individuals, obtained from in-depth, semi-structured telephone interviews during July – August 2020, between the first and second waves of COVID-19. For conducting qualitative data analyses, the Grounded Theory (GT) approach for developing code structure was used.
CONSUMER EXPERIENCE AS A FACTOR OF STUDENT LOYALTY IN HIGHER EDUCATION
Intensive competition in contemporary education market makes higher educational institutions choose market focused strategy in order to make their offer outstand their other competitors. Defining the factors of experience development, their impact on satisfaction and loyalty of foreign students would help higher educational institutions to create positive experience for foreign students that would later, thanks to this experience, can become loyal and spread positive information about the higher educational institution. Research of these factors is especially topical for Latvia because one of the main directions for development of the state educational system is integration in international educational system. The objective of research is to study the impact of experience developing factors on forming satisfaction and loyalty in higher education. Survey has been used as a research method, questionnaire covered foreign students in Latvia. Data analysis has been conducted with frequency analysis, calculations of central tendency indicators, correlation analysis and path analysis. As a result, it was found that satisfaction with higher educational institution was mainly formed with its capability to fulfil its obvious functions, that is provide qualitative education corresponding with expectations of foreign students. The analysis of impact of general satisfaction with higher educational institution on loyalty demonstrated very strong positive influence: the higher the satisfaction, the more likely foreign students would consider studies in particular higher educational institution to be useful for other foreign students and advise it.
AGE COMPOSITION CHANGES OF RIGA AGGLOMERATION RING
Over the course of several previous decades the post-socialist countries of Central and Eastern Europe have experienced notable population disposition and composition changes in the vicinity of large cities. Despite this, age composition related studies have rarely paid attention to changes within these city regions. Thus, the aim of this paper is to shed light on age composition changes of Riga agglomeration ring. For this study official statistical data, along with population ageing index is utilized. Changes are studied for the entire ring and its structures of urban and rural areas for the years 2000, 2011 and 2020. Results indicated that, despite a decrease, the 25-44 year old age group remained the most populous. 15-24 year old group had the largest decrease. Pre-working age and the two oldest groups were the ones which had tended to increase the most in comparison to situation in 2000. However, ring and urban areas first saw a decrease of pre-working age population leading up to 2011, followed by a more notable growth. Population ageing index values showed that for all territory types population ageing had slowed after 2011. Also, urban areas of Riga agglomeration have been ageing more rapidly than rural ones. This study was supported by National Research Program Project grant number VPP-IZM-2018/1-0015.
PUBLIC OPINION ON THE PROVISION OF CRISIS INTERVENTION BY HELPING PROFESSIONS
A crisis in a person\u27s life is a state in which an individual encounters an obstacle in his or her life that he or she cannot overcome with standard solutions strategies. Simultaneously, a person must/have to start to solve the situation and not let the problem grow into a difficult situation. The crisis is generally perceived as a threat to the individual who finds himself in it. However, some authors mention the positive potential it can have. As this is a new situation in a person\u27s life, it encourages him to think about the future and the changes that can get him out of a crisis. Crisis intervention is a professional service provided by social educators, social workers, or psychologists. The research aims to find out how the public perceives the issue of crisis intervention. What crises have the respondents already encountered, and what help they prefer. In addition, what is the public\u27s knowledge of the basic concepts and forms of assistance provided? The sample size is 309 respondents. We investigated whether there was a significant difference in the characteristics of the crisis intervention concerning education, which we verified with the Chi-Square test and whether there is concerning age and the relationship between surviving the crisis and seeking professional help.
