    DATABASE USAGE IN SEMANTIC ONTOLOGIES

    Semantic ontology languages are a way for experts to write down their knowledge in a commonly accepted way, it allows information to be understood by humans and machines. However, ontology tools do not provide the ability to use this data in a database for geodata-based analysis easily. The project is focused on ontology web language (OWL) usage for web content generation for business-to-business communication using geodata analysis. This specific paper is focused on selecting a database that could support the ontology tools. In the research scope, different databases were checked (relationship, document, and graph databases). In conclusion, graph databases were the most similar to the structure of the ontology, so it was chosen to use Neo4j as the database

    STUDY ON THE CAUSES OF THE GENDER PAY GAP IN LITHUANIA

    In the article, after analyzing scientific sources about the inequality of wages between men and women and statistically studying the gender distribution of the average salary in the Baltic States, it was found out that in the Baltic States men also earn more, but wage growth in all countries prevails differently. The analysis of the questionnaire survey of 449 respondents highlighted the main factors influencing the gender pay gap: the level of education, the distribution of childcare in the family, the dominance of men in higher positions, different attitudes towards work and career advancement. The study revealed that men have wider opportunities in the field of work and are considered the dominant gender in managerial positions. Women in modern society are still considered weaker and are emphasized on housework and childcare

However, there is still a need for more professionals in the labor market for cargo and passenger carriers. Therefore, to ensure qualified employees in the transport sector, the availability of driving schools in all regions of Latvia, high-quality training, and adequate service prices, which would correspond to the capabilities of different households, are essential. Small and new driving schools, to win the market segment by competing with the leading driving schools in Latvia, must think about the quality of the offered services, compliance with customer requirements, and plan financing options - own or borrowed capital.     DURATION OF CRIMINAL PROCEEDINGS: HUMAN RIGHTS AND JURISDICTION ASPECTS

    Duration of criminal proceedings is one of the most important issues in the theory and practice of Latvian criminal proceedings. Unlike the limitation period for persons in pre-litigation proceedings, the Criminal Procedure Law does not contain such a time limit for proceedings. This raises the question of the possible improvement of the legal framework, from a jurisdictional point of view and from a human rights point of view. The Article analyzes the standards of length of proceedings, their impact on the rights of the involved persons and legitimate interests’ realization, as well as the impact on jurisdiction. Methods used to create an Article: analytical sociological observation method, induction and literature analysis method. The final conclusion is that in the course of the lengthy proceedings, there are risks to the parties right to a fair hearing within a reasonable time, the role of the prosecutor in preparing the case for trial, as well as the problem of the organisation of work in the courts of first instance. Amendments to the Criminal Procedure Law and Law “On Judicial Power” are proposed

    Purpose and aim of the study: The present research aims to identify and analyse problems and opportunities for the business environment in the Rezekne Special Economic Zone.Design / Methodology / Approach:  The research employed the following methods: descriptive and graphic, analysis, an expert survey, as well as SNW (strengths, neutrals and weaknesses) analysis and the SNW typological index. Main Findings: The most important problems for the business environment in the Rezekne SEZ, which, according to the experts, were as follows: a lack of suitable land plots and buildings for starting production; a lack of qualified labour; rare and poor communication between Rezekne SEZ businesspersons (etc.), as well as opportunities such as additional tax relief for companies from the Rezekne SEZ; additional advantageous criteria for national, EU, ALTUM etc. project evaluation for businesses having Rezekne SEZ company status; opportunities for cooperation with Rezekne Academy of Technologies (etc.).Originality:  Based on an expert survey, an SNW analysis and the SNW typological index, the research identified the most important problems for the business environment in the Rezekne SEZ.Implications: An analysis of the situation in Rezekne city and Rezekne municipality regarding the national business environment reveals regional differences, which makes it necessary to perform an analysis of the business environment in the Rezekne SEZ in order to identify the main problems that hinder the creation of a favourable

    Real estate tax is the only tax that is 100 % amount is transferred to the municipal basic budget. The aim of the study is to analyze the calculation of real estate tax and the application of benefits procedures in the Baltic States and to compare them. Novelty of the research: the author compared the real estate tax in the Baltic States, performed an assessment of rates, taxable bases and benefits. The criteria for determining the real estate tax - the tax base, rate and benefits differ significantly in Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. The name of this tax is different in the Baltic States, because there is not only a real estate tax, but also a land tax. The tax base can be both cadastral value and market value. Comparing Latvia with Lithuania and Estonia, real estate tax in Latvia is the highest in relation to the average gross salary
