Histological Studies of Snails at Different Periods of Their Life Activity
Large species of terrestrial mollusks are used for human consumption and are bred for this purpose. They have become a part of national cuisine in many countries. Histology is used in many fields of humane and veterinary medicine. Its main essence is that this method can diagnose the presence of formations and inclusions. It is used to determine this process's structure and stage of development. Samples of different tissues can be used as material for histological examination. The specialist analyzes and describes the histological preparations obtained after processing the material. Thus, we proposed a histological method of studying snails. This method can provide the data of snails’ state as a whole. Snails of the species Helix aspersa maxima, Helix aspersa muller, and Helix pomatia were the material for the study. Ten snails of each species were selected for the experiment at different periods: immediately after hibernation, five days after wakening, 14 days after wakening, and at the time of their active life – in July. First, we conducted histological studies of snails during their active life, i.e., in the summer months. Therefore, for this purpose, snails for the experiment were taken in July. It was determined that if the snail eats and has an everyday life, its digestive gland generally consists of digestive tubules separated by intertubular connective tissue containing hemolymphatic sinuses and hemocytes. Thus, in our research, we studied the structure of the digestive gland. A circular muscle layer surrounds each tubule. There are three different cell types in the epithelium lining the tubules of the digestive glands, which differentiate into digestive cells, calcium cells, and excretory cells. Digestive cells are the most numerous cellular component of the tubular epithelium of the digestive gland. Basally located nuclei of digestive cells have a round or oval shape. During the rest period, the digestive gland of snails is characterized by a complete loss of digestive function and the transformation of digestive cells into excretory ones. Metabolic products are not excreted into the environment. When they accumulate, they fill all cavities in the body of snails, namely the lumens of glandular tubules, excretory ducts, stomach, and intestines. Food intake in snails increases the level of metabolism. It stimulates the differentiation of digestive cells, the functional activity of excretory cells, and the volume of excretory products. It leads to the complete liberation of the digestive tract from accumulated excretion products during the rest period. The structure of the digestive gland is completely restored
Pathogenetic aspects of retroviral infections
Bovine leukemia and equine infectious anemia are registered in most regions of Ukraine and in many countries worldwide. This is accompanied by economic losses and reduced quality of livestock products, which determines the relevance of the study of retroviral infections, their diagnosis, and pathogenesis. The goal of our research was to find and improve the methodological foundations of the development of the pathological process for a more in-depth study of the etiology, pathogenesis, treatment, and prevention of retroviral infections. The object of the study was blood, lymph nodes, spleen, heart, lungs, liver, and kidneys for bovine leukemia and equine infectious anemia. Hematological, anatomical, histological, histochemical, morphometric, and statistical research methods were used for their study. The research group included 304 cattle aged 4–9 years and 42 horses, of which 25 were infected with the virus, and 17 were in the control group. It has been established that bovine leukemia and infectious anemia of horses is an irreversible pathological process characterized by slow progression, the presence of a latent or persistent form, with damage to cells, organs, and systems of the body, which leads to death. Infectious anemia of horses differs from leukemia of cattle by the hidden course of the pathological process. Blood indices and immune organs morphological structure of broiler chickens under the influence of different doses of probiotic feed additives
In the development of effective methods of prevention and treatment of poultry today, importance is given to probiotics based on microbial cultures, in particular, lactobacilli, bifidobacteria, yeast, etc. In contrast to antibiotics, the use of probiotics stimulates the immune response of animals, restores the microflora of the gastrointestinal tract, and ensures its optimal ratio. At the same time, livestock products remain safe for the consumer. The purpose of our work was to conduct comparative clinical trials of the efficiency of the probiotic feed additive Probion-forte in terms of productivity, blood indices, and histological structure of immune organs of chicken broilers during fattening. The clinical studies were carried out with broiler chickens of “Cobb-500” cross at the age of 2 days, which were formed into four groups (300 units in each one). In order to determine the efficiency of application, probiotic feed additives were given to chickens in different concentrations during the growing period, together with the main diet. The first group (1st) was given probiotic Probion-forte in the dose of 1 g/kg of feed, the second group (2nd) – Probion-forte in a dose of 0.5 g/kg, the third (3rd) one – a probiotic-analog “Bio plus 2B” in a dose of 0.4 g/kg; the forth (4th) group was a control group – chickens received an essential diet, without adding any feed additives. The compound feed was provided according to norms recommended for the cross “Cobb-500”, considering age. On the 15th, 30th, and 43rd day of the test, 20 units were selected for hematological, pathomorphological and microbiological tests. The productivity of birds of all studied groups was evaluated by the average daily gains, safety, feed conversion, and slaughter output. The stabilized with EDTA chicken blood was used for morphological studies, and blood serum – for biochemical and immunological studies. Comparative clinical studies have shown that adding to the main diet of broiler chickens probiotic feed additive Probion-forte at a dose of 0.5 and 1.0 g/kg throughout the growing period increases the safety and improves feed digestibility, and increases the bird’s European Efficiency Index. Based on the obtained hematological, biochemical, and immunological parameters of blood, it can be argued about the activating effect on the body of broiler chickens probiotic feed additives, namely the intensification of reanimation of free amino acids, which increases the content of the studied metabolites of lipid metabolism, which chickens use as energy and plastic material. Stimulating cellular and humoral protection, nonspecific resistance is established, confirmed by a high level of lysozyme activity in blood serum and significantly higher content of T- and B-lymphocytes, NK-cells, and γ-globulins. The macro- and microscopic structure of the studied immune organs is preserved in all groups of broiler chickens. Compared with the control group, morphometric examination in the immune organs of broiler chickens of the first and second groups revealed an increase in the area and density of lymphoid elements, an increase in the number of plasmablasts and plasma cells, much higher structural and functional capacity of cells, which was reflected at the ultrastructural level. Feeding and meat qualities of young pigs of different genotypes according to melanocortin 4 receptor (Mc4r) gene and interbreed differentiation according to the coefficient of decrease in growth intensity in early ontogenesis
The paper presents the results of studies of fattening and meat qualities of young large white pigs of different genotypes for the melanocortin receptor 4 (Mc4r) gene and the decline in growth intensity in early ontogeny. The research was carried out in the agricultural formations of the Dnipropetrovsk region, the Jazz meat processing plant, the laboratory of the genetics of the Institute of Pig Breeding and APV of the National Academy of Sciences, and the laboratory of animal husbandry of the State Institution “Institute of Grain Crops of the National Academy of Sciences”. The work was carried out following the scientific research program of the National Academy of Sciences No. 30, “Innovative technologies of breeding, industrial and organic production of pig farming products” (“Pig farming”). Assessment of animals for fattening and meat quality was carried out taking into account the following characteristics: average daily gain of live weight during the period of control fattening, g; the age of reaching 100 kg live weight, days, length of the chilled carcass, cm; length of the bacon half of the cooled carcass, cm; thickness of lard at the level of 6–7 thoracic vertebrae, mm. The coefficient of decline in growth intensity was calculated according to the method of Yu. K. Sviechin. Biometric research results were processed using generally accepted methods. It was established that according to live weight at 4 and 6 months of age, fattening and meat qualities (age of reaching a live weight of 100 kg, days; lard thickness at the level of 6–7 thoracic vertebrae, mm; length of the chilled carcass, cm) young pigs the controlled population belongs to the I class and the elite class. The coefficient of growth decline in animals of the controlled population ranges from 108.57 to 142.51 points. The data analysis shows that according to the live weight at 4 and 6 months of age, the age of reaching the live weight of 100 kg, the fat thickness at the level of 6–7 thoracic vertebrae, and the length of the chilled carcass, the young pigs of the controlled population belong to the I class and the elite class. Animals of the Mc4r АГ genotype prevail over peers of the Mc4r AA genotype in terms of fattening and meat qualities by an average of 5.90 %. The interbreed differentiation of young pigs by the coefficient of the intensity of growth decline (∆K) shows that the difference between the animals of the experimental groups in terms of the average daily gain in live weight is 23.3 g (td = 2.62), the age of reaching 100 kg live weight is 2.7 days (td = 1.59), the length of the cooled carcass is 1.4 mm (td = 2.12). The number of reliable correlations between fattening and meat qualities, coefficient of the intensity of growth decline (∆K), and Tyler B. index is 75.0 %, which indicates the possibility of their use in selection and breeding work. The use of young pigs of the Mc4r АG genotype and animals of the I group, in which the coefficient of the intensity of growth decline (∆K) ranges from 115.61 to 123.27 points, provides additional production at the level of +3.68 – +1.75 % respectively
Cyto- and histoarchitectonics of the chicken spleen in the post-vaccination period
One of the main functions of the spleen is participation in many immunological processes, protecting the body from various harmful agents. It is a secondary organ of lymphopoiesis and the only organ of immunogenesis, which provides immune control of blood and detects genetically foreign agents in it, and performs the role of a biological filter. Therefore, the Study of its histo-architectonics has theoretical and practical significance. The histostructure of the spleen of chickens has significant differences, particularly the absence of trabeculae, a small amount of connective tissue based around large vessels. The structure of the spleen of one-day-old vaccinated and non-vaccinated chickens is not formed, as there is no differentiation of the white pulp from the red pulp, which is related to the biological features of the chickens' body. According to our research, the presence of lymphoid nodules is observed for the first time in the 25-day age of the vaccinated group chickens. According to morphometric studies, it was established that their number was 2.33 ± 0.42 pcs. Comprehensive farm vaccination programs include ten vaccinations of chickens up to 100 days of age. Under the influence of multiple antigenic stimulations in the following age periods of a 50-day-old bird (after six vaccinations: twice against infectious bronchitis and infectious bursal disease, once against Marek's disease and Newcastle disease), the 75-day (after nine times vaccination), 100-day (after ten times vaccination) number and sizes of lymphoid nodules, as well as periarterial lymphoid sheaths and periellipsoid lymphoid sheaths increased concerning chickens of the control group. Our research established that the histostructure of the spleen of one-day-old chickens of the experimental and control groups is incomplete. The bird's spleen, a peripheral organ of immune protection, is formed at 25 days. However, chickens are vaccinated twice (against Marek's disease and infectious bronchitis) in the incubator when they are less than one day old, and 90% of the planned vaccinations are completed by the age of 75 days. Therefore, studying morphological changes in the spleen of birds of different ages can be an essential tool for re-evaluating preventive treatment protocols in modern poultry farming
Cellular aging and immunity
Science is constantly evolving and updated with current data on cell biology. The cellular aging phenomenon should be considered an evolutionary mechanism of the biological regulation of all living organisms. Factors initiating cellular aging are variable. Each cell type can respond differently to the activation factors of cellular aging. In recent decades, science has been supplemented with new data that provide a deeper understanding of cellular and molecular mechanisms of cellular aging and the formation of immune homeostasis. There is a real prospect of using effective means of its regulation. In recent years, scientists have come close to discovering the mechanisms of cellular aging. Factors and mechanisms of cell regeneration are more deeply revealed. Scientists are also better aware of the phylogeny and ontogenesis of immune processes and the role of immune factors in developing pathologies. Researchers are increasingly focusing on modern diagnostic methods and xenotherapy. However, the specific factors of immunoregulation and the interaction of microphages, macrophages, and lymphocytes with other body cells are not yet fully understood. Accordingly, this requires further in-depth study. This review reviews the current literature on cellular aging and its regulatory mechanisms. The authors also present the results of their research on the mechanisms of immune responses in reproductive pathology. They draw parallels with modern scientific theories and interpret research. We will also focus on the issues that need to be addressed in the near future for the progressive development of this field of science. Thus, the study of the mechanisms of cellular aging and the development of effective means of hay therapy today requires further painstaking work. Despite significant advances in preclinical studies, many questions remain about the practical use of the drugs. This is especially true in the medicine of oncology, neurology, and cardiology. Nevertheless, scientists will be able to use pharmacological agents to influence cell division, differentiation, and determination in the future. We also hope to have developed effective means of immunotherapy of diseases. The molecular mechanisms of cell aging and mediators involved in the mechanisms of cell aging and death are being studied in detail. The field of research contains countless fascinating studies that are sure to be discovered
Hematological parameters of dogs for parasitism Dirofilaria immitis
The relationship between helminths and the host is built on a subtle molecular biological basis. Their pathogenic effect is characterized by the mechanical, toxic, inoculating effect on the host organism and the state of reactivity of his organism, immunological and allergic reorganization. It has been proved that helminths of the species Dirofilaria immitis are the most pathogenic nematodes of this genus because the localization of the imaginal stage of the parasite causes more complex pathogenesis of the invasion. The study aimed to establish changes in hematological parameters of dogs infected with D. immitis, considering the intensity of microfilariasis invasion. Studies have shown that the intensity of the invasion of up to 20 larvae/cm3 in the blood of dogs, significant changes in the number of erythrocytes, leukocytes, platelets, hemoglobin, and hematocrit and ESR were not found. The intensity of the invasion of 20–40 larvae/cm3 in infected dogs in the blood decreases the number of erythrocytes by 11.92 % (P < 0.05), the hemoglobin content by 16.33 % (P < 0.05), the hematocrit by 12.70% (P < 0.05) and the number of leukocytes increases by 15.17 % (P < 0.05). Indicators of the intensity of invasion of 40–60 larvae/cm3 in infected dogs showed more significant changes in the blood, which are characterized by a decrease in the number of erythrocytes by 25.54 % (P < 0.001), platelets by 34.03 % (P < 0.01), hemoglobin content by 30.86 % (P < 0.001), hematocrit by 20.56 % (P < 0.001) and an increase in the number of leukocytes by 32.75 % (P < 0.001) and ESR by 1.84 times 0.001). At indicators of the intensity of invasion of more than 60 larvae/cm3, in dogs significant (P < 0.001) decrease in the number of erythrocytes by 47.21 %, thrombocytes by 42.84 %, the content of hemoglobin by 42.27 %, the indicator of hematocrit by 41.57 % and an increase in the number of leukocytes by 44.98 % and ESR by 2.51 times. In the leukoform of dogs with increasing rates of microfilariae invasion, the number of eosinophils gradually increases to 62.38 % (P < 0.001), rod-shaped neutrophils to 27.48 % (P < 0.05), monocytes to 23.21 % (P < 0.01) and the number of lymphocytes is reduced to 45.45 % (P < 0.001). The data obtained indicate the importance of determining these indicators for heartworm disease, which complements the picture of clinical examination of animals and will allow more effective treatment of dogs in this invasion
The results of fattening hybrid pigs of Danish selection
The results of a study of the breed combinations that influence pigs of Danish selection on fattening, meat, and economic indicators are presented. The experimental animals were divided into two groups according to their genotype. The method of groups-analogs was applied. The pigs were similar in terms of conditional heredity, sex, age, and body weight within each group. Five animals from each group were slaughtered at the meat processing plant to study the meat qualities. These studies arose due to the constant search for the most successful and cost-effective options for breed combinations that guarantee the effect of heterosis in hybrid offspring, which determined the scientific novelty and relevance. The dependence on breed combinations of fattening and meat qualities of young pigs obtained by simple two-breed and complex three-breed industrial crossbreeding of breeds of Danish selection has been established. At the final stage of fattening, a significant intergroup difference was established in terms of the average daily increase in body weight in favor of pigs of the breed combination F2 ¼Y ¼L ½D at 5.4% at P > 0.999 compared with analogs of the breed combination F1 ½Y ½L. Crossbreeds of the F2 generation turned out to be more early maturing and reached a body weight of 100 kg in 168.1 days, compared to 173.2 days in crossbreeds of the F1 generation with a difference of 5.1 days (P > 0.95) and a slaughter weight of 110 kg with a difference of 5.5 days (P > 0.95). They also spent less feed by 0.18 feed units per 1 kg of body weight gain, but the intergroup difference was insignificant. At slaughter, the weight of the steamed carcass in the crossbreeds of generation F2 ¼Y ¼L ½D was higher by 6.7 kg (P<0.95), and the slaughter yield was higher by 5.9 % (P > 0.999). It is concluded that the combination of Yorkshire breeds with Landraces and Durocs achieves a high economic effect on pork production since the level of profitability of pork production in three-breed hybrids is higher by 6.6%, respectively than in two-breed ones
Dynamics and diagnosis of severe pneumocephalus of unknown etiology in dog
Modern veterinary medicine and its subdivision – veterinary neurology, are constantly evolving. New diagnostic methods are emerging every day, and the list of new, previously unexplored animal diseases is expanding. Much information about the pathogenesis and etiology of diseases is borrowed from human medicine, which is a big problem, because human physiology is different from animals and, as a consequence, the dynamics of the disease are also different. That is why the continuous improvement of veterinary therapy and diagnosis of diseases is relevant and necessary. One of the rare and severe pathologies is pneumocephalus. It is reported that this is a condition in which there is a gradual accumulation of air in the cranial cavity or ventricles of the brain, creating a life-threatening condition. It is considered that pneumocephalus can occur spontaneously but, in most cases, is diagnosed after trauma or surgery with impaired integrity of the skull bones and meninges. This article describes a case of pneumocephalus of unknown etiology in a young dog who suffered a head injury while playing with the owner. During the neurological examination of the animal conducted immediately after the incident was diagnosed with severe central nervous system lesions (sopor, opisthotonus, tetraparesis); magnetic resonance imaging revealed significant brain damage with pronounced ventricular dilatation and the formation of a cavity filled with air. Re-diagnosis after 14 days showed progression of pneumocephalus with gas accumulation in the brain cavities. The contents of the ventricles have a division into liquid (cerebrospinal fluid), and air, progressive inflammatory processes in the brain's parenchyma were not observed; a fistula or canal connecting the cranial cavity and the external environment was not detected. Symptomatic and supportive therapy, carried out during the entire period of the dog's stay in the veterinary clinic, did not have positive results. The animal was euthanized according to medical indications and the owner's wishes
Study the effectiveness of using a complex of disinfectants and probiotics in the presence of poultry
In the industrial production of broiler meat, optimal housing conditions are created to increase productivity and meat quality. To maintain the natural resistance of poultry, the technology of poultry must use probiotics and quality, safe disinfectants. This article deals with the discussion due to the research results on the integrated use of two probiotics and two disinfectants in raising broiler chickens. The scheme, modes, and terms of using probiotics and disinfectants for broiler chickens during their cultivation are offered. Doses and concentrations of the studied preparations are also generalized. The influence of the investigated preparations on hematological parameters, growth, and safety of poultry was analyzed. The results of the research showed that feeding with probiotics and disinfectants did not significantly influence the daily feed consumption of chickens but caused a 6.2 % increase in average daily gain and a decrease of 0.1 feed conversion rate in chickens of the experimental group. Production investigation has determined the modes of disinfection of poultry houses in the presence of broiler chickens when using a disinfectant, “Biolide”, based on hydrogen peroxide, lactic acid, and lactic acid. The bactericidal effect of disinfection of walls, floors, and feeding troughs of the premises with aerosol use of disinfectant “Biolide” and spraying of probiotic powder “Biozapin” 2 days after treatment, at the rate of 10‒30 g/m2 1 time in 2 weeks. There was an increase in the productivity of the studied poultry for feeding with probiotic feed “Biomagn” at the rate of 0.5 kg per ton of feed according to the scheme: from one day of age – seven consecutive days and 22 days of age – seven days in a row with constant water treated with disinfectant preparation “Diolide” based on chlorine dioxide, which made it possible to get quality products and cost-effective production. According to the research results, it is set that the optimal mode of aerosol disinfection of poultry houses in the presence of broiler chickens using 0.2 % disinfectant “Biolide” is 50 ml/m3 of the room at an exposure of 60 minutes. The safe and optimal concentration of the disinfectant “Diolide” during water treatment in the water supply system at a dose of 1.0 mg/l of chlorine dioxide corresponds to 0.0004 % concentration. The bactericidal effect of disinfecting the room's surface in the presence of poultry during its rearing after disinfection with the disinfectant “Biolide” and probiotic “Biozapin” was almost 100 %, which confirms its effectiveness. Under the action of the investigated preparations, a stimulating influence on the gas transport function of the blood of broiler chickens was revealed, especially in the older age of their rearing. In particular, at the age of 34 days, the concentration of hemoglobin was higher by 10.7 % (P < 0.05), and the number of erythrocytes at the age of 34 and 41 days – by 41.7 (P < 0.01) and 24.1 % (P < 0.01), respectively. At the same time, likely changes in the number of leukocytes and the ratio of their species in the blood of chickens of the experimental group concerning the control were not detected. These data indicate that aerosol treatment of premises in the presence of chickens is non-toxic and has no negative influence on the physiological state, confirmed by investigations of morphological indicators of poultry blood
