Visit Intention Model: Integrating Religiosity, Halal Friendly Attributes, Perceived Risk, Perceived Value, Destination Image in West Java
This study aims to examine the influence of religiosity on visit intention in halal tourism, with halal-friendly attributes, perceived risk, perceived value, and destination image as mediating variables. This study contributes to the existing literature by integrating perceived risk, perceived value, and destination image as mediating variables. This study offering a comprehensive understanding of the factors influencing visit intentions in halal tourism. The research employs a quantitative approach using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) to analyze data collected from 203 tourists in the West Java. The study reveals that religiosity significantly enhances halal-friendly attributes, perceived risk, and perceived value, while halal-friendly attributes positively influence perceived value. Perceived value and destination image are critical determinants of visit intention, whereas perceived risk does not mediate the influence of religiosity and halal-friendly attributes on destination image and visit intention. Tourism stakeholders should focus on strengthening halal-friendly services, enhancing tourists’ perceived value, and building a positive destination image rather than overemphasizing risk mitigation strategies to effectively increase visit intention
Peningkatan Motivasi dan Hasil Belajar Peserta Didik Pada Pembelajaran Diskusi Isu Sosiosaintifik Melalui Kunjungan Lapangan
The Bogor Botanical Gardens possess considerable potential as a learning resource; however, only a limited number of schools utilise this opportunity. This study aims to examine the impact of the field trip method at the Bogor Botanical Gardens on students’ motivation and learning outcomes in the topic Ecosystem Components and Their Interactions. A quasi-experimental design was employed. The participants comprised 22 male and 35 female students, divided into two groups: the control and the experimental groups. The experimental group participated in a field trip, while the control group followed the conventional method typically used by teachers, namely group discussions. During the third session, both groups engaged in discussions based on socioscientific issues. The results indicated no significant difference in overall learning outcomes between the two groups. However, an analysis using Bloom’s taxonomy showed that the experimental group performed better in the domains of understanding (C2) and application (C3). In contrast, the control group excelled in the analysis domain (C4). Similarly, there was no significant difference in learning motivation between the two groups. Nonetheless, students in the experimental group displayed enthusiasm, expressed enjoyment, and found the materials easier to comprehend during field-based learning activities. Based on these findings, field trips to the Bogor Botanical Gardens may enhance the affective domain and foster more conscious, meaningful, and enjoyable learning experiences.Kebun Raya Bogor memiliki potensi digunakan sebagai sumber belajar, namun masih sedikit sekolah memanfaatkannya. Improving EFL Learners’ Speaking Fluency through Peer Discussion Activities
This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of peer discussion activities in improving the speaking fluency of EFL learners, to explore learners’ perceptions of peer-based speaking practice, and to identify the pedagogical factors that influence its successful implementation. Key concepts underlying this research include speaking fluency as a core component of communicative competence, Communicative Language Teaching, and socio-constructivist learning. A mixed-methods research design was employed, combining quantitative and qualitative approaches. The participants were Grade VIII students in an Indonesian junior high school. Data were collected through speaking fluency tests administered before and after the intervention, learner perception questionnaires, and classroom observations during peer discussion activities. The findings indicate that structured peer discussion activities significantly improved learners’ speaking fluency, as evidenced by increased speech rate, reduced hesitation, and smoother speech continuity. Learners also reported positive attitudes toward peer discussion, particularly in terms of reduced speaking anxiety, increased confidence, and greater classroom engagement. However, the study faced challenges related to limited intervention duration and a relatively small sample size. Based on these findings, the study recommends the systematic integration of peer discussion activities into EFL speaking instruction, with careful attention to task design and discussion format.
Contribution:This study contributes to EFL pedagogy by providing empirical evidence on the role of peer discussion in developing speaking fluency and by reinforcing communicative and socio-constructivist frameworks within the context of junior high school EFL instruction
POPULAR OR POPULER? COMPARING AI AND HUMAN TRANSLATION OF NONCE WORDS IN WICKED’S INDONESIAN SUBTITLES
This study investigates the process of translating nonce words in Indonesian subtitles of the musical fantasy film Wicked, focusing on the challenges posed by highly creative and humorous expressions that remain underexplored in audiovisual translation studies. Set in the magical land of Oz, the film incorporates playful and imaginative expressions like Galindafied and braverism, which present unique translation difficulties. The study employs content analysis to compare human-generated subtitles from Apple TV with AI-generated subtitles produced by ChatGPT. While both human and AI translations tend to convey the general meaning of the nonce words, they fail to capture the stylistic and humorous nuances present in the source language. Human translations can be literal or omit creative expressions entirely, suggesting that neither method fully encapsulates the inventiveness and playfulness of the source language. This study underscores the importance of developing more adaptable strategies for translating highly creative audiovisual texts
Understanding Spirituality in Avatar: The Last Airbender
This study aims to explore and describe the spiritual meaning in the animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender using James Fowler\u27s theory of spiritual development. In this series, the elements of fire, water, air, and earth are used to illustrate the spiritual journeys of its characters. Fire, as a symbol of love, strength, and transformation, is evident in Zuko\u27s journey, reaching the Reflective-Individualistic stage where he chooses the path of goodness, and in Aang\u27s decision not to kill Ozai, reflecting the Conjunctive Faith stage that transcends rational thought. Water, as a symbol of life and emotion, is represented by Aang, who initially flees from his responsibilities, residing in the Conventional-Synthetic stage before eventually accepting his destiny as the Avatar. Air, symbolizing freedom and intelligence, demonstrates Aang\u27s journey in understanding opposing elements literally at the Mythic-Literal stage. Earth, symbolizing stability and resilience, is reflected in the struggles of Aang and his friends, who reach the Universalizing stage, seeing all humanity as one and committing to the common good. This research employs a qualitative method with descriptive analysis, collecting data through literature studies that include the analysis of written texts, episodes of the animated series, and related literature. The results of this study show how the narrative and symbolism in Avatar: The Last Airbender can teach profound spiritual values, offering new insights into the study of popular culture and spirituality. Through popular media, this research aims to be an effective tool in conveying and teaching spiritual values, helping individuals find inspiration and guidance in their spiritual journeys
Management of Collective Duha Prayer Habits in Shaping Student Character: Insights from Indonesian High Schools
This study aims to explore the management model applied in the habit of performing the Dhuha prayer as a means of developing religious character and discipline in students at the secondary school level, using a systemic approach based on POAC (Planning, Organizing, Actuating, Controlling). The approach used is descriptive qualitative with a multiple case study strategy, utilizing participatory observation techniques and document analysis to obtain valid and contextual data. The results of the study indicate that the habit of performing the Dhuha prayer significantly influences the development of discipline, the automatic cultivation of religiosity, and the stability of students\u27 character, especially when this practice is managed systematically through careful planning, consistent implementation, and continuous evaluation. These findings have high relevance for the field of Islamic education management, the development of character-based curriculum, the formulation of school policies that emphasize religious culture, and the integration of ritual practices into the structure of formal education habitus. The strength of this study lies in presenting a management model for the habit of institutionalized sunnah worship, not just a ritual routine, while also introducing the concept of "automatic religiosity" that can strengthen religious practices internally within the school environment. This model is expected to be a reference for the development of students\u27 religious character in a structured and sustainable manner
Child Marriage from a Gender Equality Perspective
This article examines the practice of child marriage in Indonesia from a gender equality perspective by exploring the causal factors, socio-cultural constructions, and implications for women\u27s health, education, and position within the social structure. Data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) and UNICEF show that the prevalence of child marriage remains high and its decline is very slow, indicating strong cultural roots, economic inequality, and unequal access to education. An international literature review confirms that low education, family economic pressure, and established social norms are the main determinants of this practice. From a health perspective, early pregnancy increases the risk of serious complications for both mother and baby and contributes to an intergenerational cycle of poverty. Gender analysis shows that child marriage reinforces unequal power relations between men and women, while limiting the space for identity development, social participation, and life opportunities for girls. From an Islamic perspective, the principles of gender equality and justice are guaranteed through the values of maqasid al-shari\u27ah, but their implementation is often hampered by biased social interpretations. This article emphasizes that the issue of child marriage cannot be separated from the structure of gender inequality and requires holistic interventions based on law, social, cultural, and theology to encourage sustainable change
Cultivating Divine Love via Lailat al-Qadr: Insights from Mosque Dhikr Gatherings
Mahabbah, derived from the root word habba, refers to a profound emotional attachment and enduring devotion of a servant to God, representing a central element of Islamic spirituality. Closely associated with Lailatul Qadar, the holiest night during the last ten days of Ramadan, mahabbah functions not only as a personal expression of divine love but also as a foundation for collective religious consciousness and social responsibility. This study aims to examine how the members of the Majelis Dhikr at Nurul Huda Mosque in Kampung Kudang, Bandung, cultivate love for Allah through consistent religious gatherings and communal engagement, particularly in preparation for Lailatul Qadar. Using a qualitative descriptive method supported by interviews and documentation, the findings reveal that the practices of dhikr, Qur\u27anic learning, and social initiatives significantly influence the moral character and behavior of the participants, fostering a culture of compassion, solidarity, and mutual assistance. This integration of spiritual devotion with social action illustrates how religious values can shape a transformative community life. The study concludes that a sustained approach to Lailatul Qadar through structured communal worship contributes to deeper spiritual awareness and reinforces a socially engaged religious identity within contemporary Muslim society
Empowering Communities through the Living Qur’an: Alumni Contributions from a Qur’anic Boarding School in Indonesia
This study explores how the alumni of the Raudhatul Qur’an Islamic Boarding School in Metro City contribute to community empowerment through the Living Qur’an framework. The research aims to examine the effectiveness of alumni-led initiatives in sustaining religious knowledge and practices in a city undergoing cultural and religious transitions. Using a qualitative-descriptive approach and a case study method, data were collected through in-depth interviews with alumni and pesantren caregivers, as well as documentation of institutional and community activities. The analysis employs Jim Ife’s community development theory and Robert D. Putnam’s social capital theory to assess how alumni utilize social trust, norms, and networks to promote Quranic values within society. The findings reveal a distinct model of Living Qur’an-based community empowerment implemented through three main strategies: active community participation, social justice, and local capacity building. The study concludes that the alumni effectively preserve and revitalize Quranic culture by leveraging their social capital, reinforcing the potential of religious institutions as drivers of community development in urban transitional contexts. This research contributes to the discourse on Islamic education, social cohesion, and faith-based community empowerment in contemporary urban settings
Oemar Bakry\u27s Tafsir Madrasi: Moral Education Themes in Surah Al-Baqarah and Contemporary Relevance
This study analyzes the concept of moral education in Tafsir Madrasi by Oemar Bakry, focusing on Surah al-Baqarah verses 1-63 and 142-249. This study aims to uncover the moral values articulated by Bakry in the Qur\u27an and their relevance to the contemporary Islamic education paradigm. This study uses a qualitative-descriptive method with a thematic interpretation (maudu\u27i) approach, supported by an analysis of Islamic education theory. The findings indicate that Oemar Bakry views moral education as a holistic personality formation process that instills the values of faith (iman), trust (amanah), patience (ṣabr), justice (\u27adl), and piety (taqwa). These values serve as a conceptual foundation for curriculum design, humanistic teaching methods, and the development of moral leadership in modern education. Theoretically, this study contributes to the development of an integrative Islamic education paradigm that combines spiritual, rational, and social dimensions, consistent with contemporary value-based education theory. Therefore, the Madrasi Interpretation is not just a classical Indonesian interpretation, but also a conceptual reference for the development of Islamic education that is value-oriented and civilized
