Development of Contextual Arabic Writing (Insya’) Teaching Materials for Pesantren Students

    No full text
This study aimed to address the challenges in teaching Arabic writing skills (insya’) at Islamic boarding schools (pesantren), where instruction often relies on memorization and lacks structured, contextual materials suited to students’ needs. The research sought to develop valid, practical, and effective teaching materials to improve students’ writing abilities. Using the Research and Development (R&D) method adapted from Borg & Gall, the study followed several stages: needs analysis, planning, product development, validation, limited trial, and revision. The participants were students of Pondok Pesantren Al-Ittihad Cianjur, and data were collected through questionnaires, interviews, observations, validation sheets, and pretest–posttest writing assessments. The needs analysis indicated that students required simple, contextual, and gradual materials related to their pesantren environment. Validation from experts yielded an average score of 3.71 (“feasible”), showing that the materials met content, language, and design standards with minor revisions needed. After improvement such as adding varied writing exercises and enhancing visuals the limited trial revealed significant gains: average writing scores increased from 65.7 to 80.6, particularly in sentence structure and vocabulary use. Thus, the developed materials proved valid, practical, and effective, offering an alternative solution to enhance Arabic writing instruction in pesantren

    Get PDF
Purpose: This study examines how religious messages are mediated through meme-based communication on Instagram in Indonesia by comparing Islamic and Buddhist meme accounts. It aims to clarify how different religious traditions adapt their communicative styles to a highly visual, template-driven, and participatory platform environment. Methodology: Using a qualitative netnographic approach, the study analyzed 120 meme posts (60 per account) and 3,847 user comments collected from February–April 2025 from two Indonesian Instagram accounts, @memeislam.id and @sadhu.meme. Data were coded to compare thematic patterns, visual/message framing strategies, circulation routines (posting frequency/timing, captions, hashtags, templates), and observable audience participation traces in comment threads. Findings: The analysis identified four recurring theme categories. @memeislam.id emphasized Scripture Quotation and Universal Moral Values (66.7% combined), while @sadhu.meme foregrounded Religious Satire/Humor (41.7%); both devoted an equal share to Religious Social Criticism (13.3%). Visual packaging differed in how authority and humor were rendered (e.g., short, high-readability scriptural excerpts versus citation-oriented quotation cards, alongside pop-culture meme templates). Circulation practices also diverged, including hashtag density and posting routines. Audience participation traces contrasted “rapid affirmation” (devotional phrases, emoji-only replies, tagging/mentions) with more aphoristic and concept-referential comments; captured examples showed 55,500 likes/36 comments versus 472 likes/25 comments. Implications: Findings suggest that meme-based religious communication can increase accessibility and shareability while also carrying risks of doctrinal compression and interpretive ambiguity. Practical implications include pairing meme posts with context-expanding features and strengthening digital religious literacy for audiences. Originality/Value: This study contributes an Indonesia-based, cross-religious comparison of Instagram religious memes using a shared coding framework and integrating visual-rhetorical analysis with a typology of bilingual audience response traces

    Get PDF
In 2024, Indonesia will hold general elections to choose legislative candidates at the central and regional levels. Kuningan Regency in West Java also held legislative candidate elections at the regency level. There\u27s an interesting phenomenon where legislative council members consistently win seats in the two previous election cycles. In the context of political marketing, the candidate is the object that must be valuable to be chosen, making competition with a marketing approach interesting to study. To analyze this phenomenon, this research was conducted to determine the factors influencing voters\u27 decisions in choosing legislative candidates for the Kuningan District DPRD. The focus of this research is the analysis of personal branding, party image, and promotions conducted by candidates, with voting interest as a mediating variable. Personal branding is the uniqueness built from a person\u27s skills, experience, and personality, which can shape positive perceptions and a tendency to choose. Party image is related to the impression formed in the public\u27s mind regarding political parties. Promotion is an effort made to introduce candidates to political marketing strategies thru media or public publication channels that are responsive to voters. The object of study is a legislative member from the PDIP party who has consistently won a legislative seat in the Kuningan District Council for two period. The respondents in this study were 200 people who are loyal voters for the candidate and are members and supporters of the PDIP party. The research method uses quantitative analysis with data collected using questionnaires and analyzed using SEM PLS. The research results show that all hypotheses are supported, all independent variables have a positive and significant effect on the decision to choose a candidate, and there is an Voting Interest that mediates the relationship between personal selling, party image, and promotion on the decision to choose. These results indicate that candidates who are consistent in their personal branding have a higher chance of being re-elected, supported by the party\u27s image and promotions that generate strong voting interest and influence legislative candidate voting decisions. Practically, this research has implications for candidates, political parties, and policymakers. Candidates need to manage their personal branding not just for image, but to cultivate genuine interest in the eyes of voters. Political parties need to maintain a consistent image thru reputation, integrity, and tangible performance in order to generate public interest. Meanwhile, policymakers can leverage these insights to design political education strategies and campaign regulations that not only raise awareness but also encourage active voter interest in the democratic process

This study examines the significant role played by Harun Ar-Rashid, the fifth caliph of the Abbasid Dynasty, in advancing education during his reign. Employing historical research methods, including heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography, the research relies primarily on The History of Al-Tabari as a key source. The analysis reveals notable progress in education during Harun Ar-Rashid\u27s Caliphate, attributing the Abbasid Dynasty\u27s advancement to his educational policies. Initiatives such as the establishment of translation institutions, multiple libraries, and the integration of the Qur\u27an as a core curriculum contributed to this progress. Renowned scholars like Al-Khawarizmi, Al-Kindi, Ar-Raji, and Al-Ma’mun emerged due to these policies. Harun Ar-Rashid\u27s proactive programs aimed at enhancing educational accessibility and fostering a love for science have enduring implications. If applied in contemporary education, these policies could contribute to equalizing educational quality. This article explores the historical roots of these initiatives, offering insights for present-day educational strategies and contributing to the discourse on educational equality. By understanding the legacy of Harun Ar-Rashid\u27s educational efforts, we gain perspectives to guide modern endeavors in creating inclusive and effective educational systems

Diskresi Presiden dalam Pengangkatan Menteri Negara: Analisis Konstitusional Batasan dan Pertanggungjawaban dalam Sistem Presidensial Indonesia

    Get PDF
This article discusses the discretionary authority of the President in the appointment and dismissal of ministers within Indonesia\u27s presidential system of government. In this system, the President holds prerogative rights guaranteed by the Constitution, as stated in Article 17 paragraph (2) of the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia. Although the President has considerable freedom, the use of such discretion is not absolute and must adhere to the principles of the rule of law, democracy, and good governance. Using a normative approach through library research, this article analyzes the constitutional foundation, limitations, and forms of accountability of presidential discretion in appointing ministers. It also evaluates President Prabowo Subianto’s cabinet reshuffle practices in response to political dynamics and public demands. The analysis shows that while ministerial appointments fall under the President\u27s prerogative rights, their implementation must consider aspects of competence, integrity, and public accountability. Discretion should serve as a tool to enhance the effectiveness of governance, not as a means of exercising unchecked power. Therefore, transparency, professionalism, and accountability are fundamental principles in the exercise of executive discretion in Indonesia.

Indonesian tafsir: Development of definitions and shifting functions of tafsir

    Get PDF
Tafsir, in its dynamics, does not only function as a medium for studying Allah\u27s verses. There has been a shift in the function of interpretation to become a field for cultivating the interests of individuals, groups and even state governments. This shift in function occurs because tafsir has experienced a development in meaning; previously, tafsir had to be written by someone who met the requirements of a mufassir, but this was not strictly adhered to by tafsir writers from Indonesia. Through this article, various interests in various Indonesian interpretations are discussed, starting from the strengthening of ideology, politics by the government, highlighting communities, even interpretations being used as a means to criticize government policies, and so on. There are various forms of tafsir studied, ranging from the Al-Qur\u27an Encyclopedia, local language tafsir, to government-published translations of the Qur\u27an. Thus, interpretations that emerge from the Indonesian context are not only viewed as normative interpretations, but also as interpretations of interests or ideological interpretations

    Get PDF
Indonesian society is renowned for its rich diversity of religious traditions, including local beliefs that persist to this day. One such tradition is the Parmalim Religion, which originates from the Batak tribe in North Sumatra. This religion, also known as Ugamo Malim, is a belief system that regulates the spiritual relationship between humans and the spirit world, with Debata Mulajadi Na Bolon as God who created the universe. Religious practices in the Parmalim Religion involve various rituals and ceremonies that reflect the depth of humans\u27 relationship with God and the natural environment, such as birth, marriage, and death rituals, as well as annual ceremonies related to the harvest season and the Batak New Year. This religion encompasses moral values such as solidarity, justice, and togetherness, which guide the daily lives of its adherents. This research uses a literature-based qualitative approach to examine Parmalim\u27s religious practices, utilizing William James\u27 theory of religious experience and Emile Durkheim\u27s theory of religious practice. This study aims to provide a deeper understanding of how the Parmalim Religion maintains the spiritual and cultural identity of the Batak people and its contribution to the diversity of religious practices in Indonesia. Through an analysis of written sources, it is hoped that this research will enrich our understanding of local beliefs and their preservation amidst current developments
